Question for Prozak

Hi
I have been doing the higher fat for a couple months now, and you seem real knowledgeable on this. Could you post some of your menus for a couple of days.. I want to see if i'm doing this right.

Thanks so much

What do you mean higher fat? There are traditional ratios, see my #s below, but some strive for 75/80% which will come from less veggies and actual added fats to proteins with their natural fats.

Oh sorry I just sat down and went through the forum to see the new posts (I was away most of yesterday and stuck in a vacuum for most of today..)

and now my measley 10.5 month old is awake and a sobbing, hot mess.. (yeah, measles!)

Now I am whisked away once again, but will address this as soon as I can get her to take something for her pain.

In the meantime, egg creams are your friend.

Oh quickly, here is one of my days mapped out on fitday. You can pretty much sub the proteins for other meats (chicken wings, thighs, ribs, ground beef and pork), the veggies for other veggies (brocolli, asparagus, nice salad, green beans etc), but the fats remain a constant for me overall.

S: 2 hard boiled eggs
L: Taco meat, romaine, avocado, cheese, sour cream
D: salmon with almonds, green beans

B: Coffee with heavy cream, EVCO, protein powder
L: chuck eye steak, with fat and broccoli
D: Hamburger patties, provolone cheese, mushrooms, avocado

B: 3 eggs fried in EVCO
L: Romaine with chicken fried in bacon grease, avocado, cheese, ranch
D: Chuck Eye steaks with fat, mock mashed potatoes (cauliflower, cream cheese, sour cream and cheddar)
S: homemade ice cream (heavy cream, 1/2 and 1/2, egg, pp)

B: 3 egg omelet cooked in EVCO, cream cheese and cheddar cheese filling
L: hamburger patty with provolone cheese, avocado, red onion

As you will see my two biggest staples, avocados and EVCO, I consume these daily. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much guys. Do any of you eat the high fat yogurt? I really like it for breakfast, sometimes i throw a few blueberries in or a couple of strawberries. I try to keep the carbs way low. I haven't done any grains. i miss the wasa crackers, and the Ezekiel bread. i will add them back gradually when i get this weight off. Then you have to cut back the fat, when you add the grains, right. I'm still learning this.

Prozak, hope your little ones is feeling better. Thats got to be awful, having the measles in the summertime. anytime would be bad though Take Care

Another question
Are you losing the weight pretty fast on this. I lose a couple #, then don't for a week, then drop another couple, so it seems to work.

Thanks RVL, i had to give her a suppository because she will not take medicine orally. she is a lot better right now.

I do have the higher fat yogurt (the 6.5% plain stuff) sometimes. I put in in my shakes.. and on those days I watch my carb intake carefully because I need to keep mine low.

No grains here (whole grains give me a headache) but that is a personal choice. If you can eat a slice of bread and not be affected, there is no reason why you can't!

Barry Groves (in his great book about higher fat: Natural Health & Weight Loss) does not eschew carbs as much as Dr A (or myself) does, but for me (lower carbs) is a personal choice I found works for me through trial and error. He suggests most people can slim down eating at much as 40-60 grams of carbs daily. My hubby does this, and with higher fat his weight comes off. He eats 2 slices of bread a day, but I put double toppings (meat) and extra butter and coconut oil (plain) on it. He lost around 30lbs in 4 months like that.

my weight comes off about a lb a week, about an average of 5lbs a month so far. it is never linear and sometimes comes off 3lbs in a week and then 2 weeks with nothing.

You may have to trade off some of the fats for the grains when you get there... some have to count calories AND carbs, some only need to count carbs.

there may even come a time when you do not miss the bread at all, or would be just as happy with a slice of lower carb bread.

Here is my take on my WOE, compared to Atkins.

This time around makes me feel more comfortable eating the types of food I really enjoy. For one thing MOST profound, is that i have had breakfast, every.single.day. since April 13, 2008. This has NEVER happened no matter what I ate in the past.

I was never one to sit down with a bowl of cereal, toast, a bagel or yogurt (whatever was in fashion) nor could I stomach cooking bacon and eggs every day.

When eating Atkins WOE, I always tried to eat a 'balanced breakfast' (65/35/5) and it is hard to get the carbs in when you really do not feel like eating an omelet or some other veggie.

(from here on is pure endorsement and shameless plugging LOL)

I think fist and foremost, starting your day with a BANG.. in other words an Egg Cream, is not only delicious, satisfying, chock full of everything you need.. but is SO EASY to get down first thing in the morning.

I do sometimes like to use splenda flavorings (Davinci's hazelnut, tastes just like a tim horton's hazelnut ice cap), and to me it is akin to eating a donut for breakfast. (I didn't dare eat ice capps even when I was fat for fear of getting fatter).

<end plug>

I think a breakfast, containing a good amount of protein and lots of good fats are non-negotiable for me.

i am hoping some day to be able to add fresh fruit

I will eat yocheese occasionally mixed with strawberries and some davinci's vanilla. For me personally, I do not seem to do well when I add back in the grains or anything else for that matter. I've learned that my body is much happier with very low carbs from veggies, moderate protein intake and high fat. That may change as I lose more weight, I still have at least another 50 lbs to go.

As for losing, I'm a sloooow loser and have learned to accept it (not necessarily like it). I can lose 1-2 lbs weekly and then nothing for weeks and then sometimes I can have a whoosh of 4-5 lbs one week and not lose anything for 2-3 weeks again. Its frustrating but I've realized its better than gaining!

One of the most important things to learn quickly is that everyone is different and you need to focus on what works best for you. Good Luck!
