I read the book last week and finished it in 3 days. It was very interesting and informative and, like wifezilla said, will make you mad at the "powers that be"...

As much as I learned, I'm glad I checked it out from the library rather than buying it because it's not "light reading" and there wasn't any material that I thought I needed for future reference. My recommendation to other folks interested in reading the book is to check it out from the library, if possible.

I checked it out twice from the Library - referred to it so often, I finally broke down and bought a copy. Luckily I got it from a used bookstore for half price.

I bought the book. It's not an easy read and it's the type of book that you want to read more then once to really "take it in". It's also the type of book you would want to "High light" places or make "Notes" in the margins.

I just bought that and Eat Fat, Lose Fat from my local bookstore. I am planning on taking them with me to my convention next week. I am going to have some down time to myself and thought I would take advantage of not having my 4 kids interrupting me every five minutes, to start one or the other.

Who knows how long it will take me to get through either, so I just went ahead and purchased them. I want the freedom to highlight and write notes, just like the others said.

Happy Reading!

Amy

Same here. I read GCBC once, and now I am going through it again with a highlighter and pencil. Very interesting reading...and anger provoking for sure!!

Peace

I bought it several months ago, and still have not finished it. But I do plan to. I bought Natural Health and Weight Loss, which was a much easier read, and finished it very quickly. It references GC/BC.

Dr. Groves' book is a good companion to GCBC. I have them both...and they are both covered in high liter and post-it flags

I love reading! This book is great. I am on Chapter 4 but I have had it now for a while. It is not a quick read for me at all but I am truly enjoying all of the research. It brings to light many studies that the mainstream diet media hasn't shared in the past. Dr. Atkins mentioned a few of these case studies in his book but not in the detail that Gary Taubes has done in his book. It is definitely eye opening. Taubes is simply telling the other side of the story.

I just received it and I am trying really hard to read it but I just cannot follow it, I had to skip 80 pages just to get to a point in the book that I could follow.

The first half or so of the book is very dry and slow going but once you get to the last few chapters it's hard to put down. That's where Gary sums up all of the research data that he presented in the beginning of the book. That's when everything starts to really make sense and you'll understand why he wrote all the dry stuff at the beginning.

Yeah, I think GCBC is fascinating too, but I have to read it in little chunks at a time and let it soak in. It's a lot of science for me to absorb. I got it as an Xmas present and here I am mid-August, still not finished!

I think it should be required reading in medical school, then the "low fat" dogma that's so ingrained in our culture would loosen it's grip

It sure makes you question what you "know" is "right" - I've become very skeptical of any medical findings, since it's obvious after reading his book that scientists many times put reputation or business ties above the truth. It is truly infuriating.

I like his analogy that the study and science of obesity has become more of a religion than a science anymore.

Same here! I'm a bookworm, it's never taken me this long to read a book I'm actually interested in.

I was in a Chapters yesterday, and with all those books and all those choices it was the only one that interested me. But I already have it.

I have been spoiled now, and will always compare everything I read to that LOL

So I bought a bookmark instead, because I am tired of trying to save my page with a kleenex or something else. (yeah I am reading it again....)

My book came from Amazon Tuesday... I'm just short of halfway through it.. not icluding the reference section... whew... have any of you ever seen in your life such a HUGE reference section?? But this book is INCREDIBLE!!! My DD is majoring in bariatric psychology and my son will soon be studying to become a doctor.... this is a MUST READ for them!!
All that I can say is WOW! It is a hard read... you have to be focused and that's hard for me because I have an extremely short attention span (haven't been able to even sit through a movie in decades) but this has my attention.
I do have to have total silence and be in the right moos though.
But definately worth the money!

Probably all LCFers LOL

I am glad to see it is being taken by storm though, what a positive thing!

I hope whoever is selling it got through the first 1/2 (cause if they did they surely couldn't put it down after that)
