The same thing happened to me back when I threw away my cigarettest on 12/25/07!!
I was 6 pds up on the scale after three days, however, I was eating! All that I was interested in, was too quit the smoking!! As crazy as this sounds, I didn't care if I gained weight because the next goal for me to do was to start Atkins WOE and I did only after a 30 pd weight gain! I didn't care though! I quit the cigarettes and I need to say it was the hardest thing I EVER had to do in my life!! But almost 8 months later, I can breath when I walk up flights of stairs where I couldn't before!! The weight is coming off now! Don't go back too smoking!! Keep up the great work.. You can do it! You might be just retaining fluid. STAY OFF THE SCALE and concentrate on your quitting!! ![]()

When I quit smoking I gained about 8 lbs., but within the first month I was able to lose them again. You will be able to lose the weight too, so hang in there. Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for yourself. If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend you set up a profile on Quit Smoking All Together with QuitNet.com - Stop Smoking Help and Cessation Support It's free, and it's a great website for quitting support Congratulations on your quit - keep up the good work! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Congrats on quitting smoking, that is fantastic! Don't panic, all the chemicals in your body are just confused right now and trying to get things in balance--so you're holding on to some water weight. It will go away, without induction, just give it a little time and keep patting yourself on the back for doing such a wonderful thing for your health!

All the research says your blood thickens as soon as you quick and while you have gained five pounds - it is not the kind of pounds we fight ever day. I am an ex-smoker and I congratulate you on your effort to quite.

Don't let a little weight gain discourage you from your goal of not smoking. I wish my roommates would quit. They both go through at least a pack a day. And yet they can't afford food?

Thanks for all your support! I am absolutely not going to give up because of the weight gain. I know it is just water and i am just going to have to stick to strict low carb so that i don't spiral out of control. The quitting is going fairly easily so far which i attribute to cutting back to only like 4 or 5 cigs a day before quitting completely.

Keep it up girl and congratulations!!! It will be ok!
I was going to say that be warned you may cough a lot too but since you've weaned yourself maybe you wont. That was one of the worst things when I quit (june 3, 2000) was the hacking , clearing my lungs. Wow.. just realized.. I thought it was 7 years but its been 8. Time flies! And Ive never looked back and am grateful every day I made that decision and STUCK with it!! And so will you be! |
