Ummm... Should pine nuts taste like expired fish?

I just bought some pine nuts to put on a salad after I noticed that they were only 1 net carb! However, they taste like expired seafood. Even my mother thinks so. We were both gagging after we tried them (and she will eat just about anything).

Is that normal or are these expired or something? Thanks!!

Nope, oils in those seeds and nuts can easily go bad- especially if they're crushed. They're rancid- throw 'em out. Blech.

BTW- pine nuts have a nice mild flavor- kind of like a sesame seed. They *should* be yummy

Thanks, that's what I figured! I just bought them today, so I don't know what's up with that. But those things were expensive!! Like $10US I think... Maybe I'll return them.

Absolutely!! Bring them back with your receipt and get that money back!! I have bought bad food before- once I got a bad package of chicken- it was gross as soon as I opened it, as soon as I got back from the market!!

definitely return them and open your new package in the store. Pine nuts should taste very buttery. Sounds like yours were rancid

Ew! Fishy pine nuts - EWWWW! For sure take them BACK. And when you DO get some good fresh ones - keep them in the fridge or freezer after you open them - helps keep them fresh for a long time!

Definitely give pine nuts another shot! They are totally addictive. They have a hint of pine-y aroma in the aftertaste (if that makes sense).

Definitely return them. I always thought pine nuts tasted a little like bacon.

I love pine nuts. They are essential for the very best of pestos. Toasted, they smell a little like popcorn. And I absolutely love their buttery, piney taste. Wow, I need to stop visiting the forums late at night. You all make me want food.

I dont think anything should taste like spoiled fish lol. The topic title made me giggle. I agree with everyone else, take them back. Maybe they will give you a discount on something for your trouble.

I would return them, they have spoiled and the store shouldn't be selling them
