How did you choose your goal weight?
I followed Dr. Atkins' advice in DANDR and picked a weight at which I had felt healthy , slim and comfortable in the past. My first goal was 140, but I changed it to 135 because I want a little leeway. Also I am older now and I don't seem to look as small or wear as small of clothes as I did in the past when I was at these lower weights. Ten years ago I was in an eight at 135 and now I am at 142 and still in a 12, or sometimes a 10.
I have had a child , so I know that changes things. Also, the weight charts say I should weigh a bit less than my 135 goal. I don't want to have an unrealistic goal that I can't maintain, but dont' want to shortchange myself if I am capable of losing a little more to be the size I would like to be. I am 5'4, in my late thirties, and medium to large framed. I am also on the curvy side. What do you think and how do you choose your goal weight? ![]() |

when i was in my late teens early 20's my lowest weight was 150.. I liked 150 but even then I knew I could stand to lose a few pounds..
so thats why I choose 140.. I figured 10lbs less when I was 150 and I would have been perfect |

Coming from 200+...I figured 150 was a good number. I had never been that number (in my adult life anyways) so it was just a goal to get to it. Once I got to it, I realized I had more to go (I'm 5'2). I upped the exercise, watched my calories and carbs and got to the 120's!!! I maintain within a few pounds and try like heck to exercise when I can!

I chose my goal of 200 because thats when I felt my best - thats when I was in the Navy and traveling all over the world and had lots of energy. I am 6'4" tall and don't want to get too thin. I think losing 80 lbs will be just fine.

I don't believe scale weight should be a goal. The number doesn't mean you're going to like what you see in the mirror, be healthy and/or feel good about yourself.

I didn't have much of an option. It was 163. It was my highest weight according to Army standards for a female who's 5ft 7. It was a healthy weight. I was a size 4. I looked more like I weighed 120 and people would get shocked when I'd tell them I wanted to lose 30 more pounds.
My goal now is 150 which is reasonable. I have an athletic build when I am in shape so if I got down to 120 it just wouldn't look right. Now getting to 150 is what's killing me. I got 43 pounds to go which is nothing for someone who's kept more than 80 pounds off but JESUS it's so hard ugh ugh lol

120 is what I weighed as a Senior in highschool. I did go down to 105 before getting pregnant for the first and then down to 98 after the birth of my second child but I think 120 would be good for me.

I don't have a set goal weight. I'll know it when I get there. I want to:
Wear a pair of jeans with my shirt tucked in with nothing hanging Wear a bathing suit without feeling embarrassed or gross When I can do that, I'm there. |

I didn't have a goal weight in mind when I started. I just wanted to lose weight .. initially I thought it would be good to lose 15 pounds .. well I ended up losing 40.

I liked how I looked around 140 - I grew curves.
I want some muscle weight, though, and a little wiggle room. I am still 9 pounds below "overweight" on the BMI chart with a goal weight of 150. Besides, DH weighs 153 and he's AWFULLY thin. He's the same height as me. DH looked terrible at my first goal weight of 135. People kept asking if he was sick. He gained 15 pounds and looks very healthy now, if you can see him behind all that beard! ![]() |

115 is what I was when I loved my body. Of course, things change, body composition (muscle:fat ratio) differs, and redistribution of fat can be a real witch, so I plan on weighing anywhere between 110-120 in actuality. 115 was just a base to go off of, but in truth, numbers don't matter to me as long as I feel comfortable with my body and I can't pull out my loose fat a good 6 inches from my lower belly.

I'm 5'5''. My initial goal was 150. I then got down to 140 and decided to lose 2 more pounds for insurance. I am now 134 and am trying to maintain. I think it's important to maintain this weight before I decide to lose any more. I'm wearing a size 8. One pair of capris are actually a size 6. How cool is that! I weighed 170 last year and was wearing size 14. I will be 52 years old in a few days. I haven't been at this weight in a very long time. The lowest I was ever able to get down to was 152, but I wasn't able to stay there very long. That's why it's so important to maintain for a long while. I get on the scale every morning and am very conscience of every morsel I put into my mouth. It's a lifetime commitment! I like the way I look and feel, but if anything more comes off no matter how slowly, that would be fine.

Well I'm a shortie, however, I dropped down to about 121lbs right before I found out I was pregnant with my oldest son. I ended up in the hospital with strep throat and the ER staff accused me of being bulemic. I was appalled and once I got over the strep, I re-evaluated how I looked. FF 10 months, I had a baby and put on about 50lbs. I loved the way I looked, got lots of compliments because I was no longer super skinny, but very healthy looking and curvy. I wore an 11/12 in JRs, which to some may still be big, but to me, I felt pretty all the time. I plan to get back to 170-175 and then see how I feel once I'm there. This time around that might not be low enough for me, however, even though the charts say I shouldn't weigh more than about 135, I totally disagree, as I didn't feel pretty when I was super thin. Either way, to each his/her own.
