Ground beef

Hi Everyone,

I haven't eaten ground beef in a long time. (Let's just say I've been eating a TON of tuna, salmon, and turkey.) I made crack slaw the other day, and was reminded of how much I hate the gristle in ground beef -- those hard little bits that come along just when you're munching away happily on your nice, soft beef, and then practically break a tooth on whatever matter of bone/sinew/who-knows-what it actually is.

I don't remember for sure what the lean meat/fat ratio was, but I think it was 96%. (I could be wrong.) Is there a certain brand, or percentage of lean/fat that has less gristle? I know there's gonnabe *some* no matter what, but I'm getting really sick of having to pick it out of my mouth.

I buy the more fatty kind, like 85% or 90% at Whole Foods and the beef is really quality- I don't get any of that. Maybe because it's TOO lean?

I've been eating GB pretty regularly and have never had an issue with it. Bought all kinds from the regular to the extra lean. Maybe try buying a different brand, ie instead of Wal-Mart brand go to your local butcher, or even mom&pop grocery store and pick some up.

I think if you would buy ground sirloin you wouldn't get any of those. Because ground sirloin is just ground meat. The ground beef is ground bunch of stuff.. I don't know if this is true but it is what I was told.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Kandi--that's a good idea. The sirloin probably tastes better, too!
