Would the loss of an Ovary effect my ability to lose weight??

I never even thought of this, and I don't know if it's relevant...but last year I got really sick. It turned out that I had an ovarian cyst that grew to the size of a grapefruit. It weighed down my ovary and caused it to twist, cutting off circulation, and eventually killing it. This resulted in extreme pain and led to surgery. So, I now have only 1.

I was reading the plateau buster thread and it mentioned sex hormones....and I wonder if my difficulty losing weight could be connected, but then again I have always struggled with weight loss even before the surgery.

Anyone else out there with only one ovary? Have you had any problems?

Thanks
Katie

Hmmm, so I just read some stuff about PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and it seems that it includes insulin resistance and difficulty losing weight. I think I will have to bring it up with my OB/GYN. It says that diabetic medications may be able to help me. Interesting. Anyone else experience this??

I actually had the same thing but on BOTH ovaries when i was only 16. That was the starting point for my weight gain. I havent had any problems losing. At one point I thought I was stalled but then the weight started moving again. From what I my doctors told me, you dont even need a whole ovary to produce the hormones you need to have a normal life. Not sure if that applies to weight loss.

I had a borderline malignant ovarian tumor which I had removed in 2005 and I didn't have too much trouble losing weight once I went on low carb. Low carb has actually helped with my cystic problem in my remaining ovary.
