Why?
I guess it would depend on your plan. The glycemic index comes to mind. |

If I HAD to eat something off that list it would be a farm-fresh ear of corn, slathered with butter. One of the local farms here grows the BEST corn. . .I used to be able to make a meal out of ear after ear of it.
Second place: A banana. . .fruit seems like such a luxury these days. |

legumes bananas corn bread potatoes pasta Worst: although a lot of this will depend on the quality of the product. is the bread whole grain? sprouted grain? pasta tends to be the most refined. potatoes, unless organic, tend to contain virtually no nutritional value. Usually whole foods will be better than processed foods, but this will again depend on the quality of it to begin with. |

sweet corn since it's in season (and I had some yesterday!)
cantaloupe since it's in season (and I have one in the fridge) cherries since... Tomatoes for my wife - I can't eat them. I can still eat corn on the cob if you cut it off the cob and mash it into a fine paste with butter and then spread it back on the cob... |

I made this decision for myself many years ago. I've always been a banana freak. I grew up in Panama, where we could get whole stalks (not hands) of bananas for less than $1.00, and as a teenager I ate four or five bananas a day, every day. (Back then I also was a competitive swimmer and belonged to a synchronized swimming team, and with the three or four hours a day of intensive exercise nothing I ate put weight on me.)
After I lost my first 20 pounds on Atkins I began giving myself a treat -- one small banana once a month. It didn't seem to slow my weight loss too much, so I kept it up over the years. On the few occasions when I cheated during a month, I punished myself by not allowing myself the banana, and that made it easier to stay on course. |

If I had to eat anything on that list, I would eat:
1. legumes- 1/2 to 1 cup depending on the type 2. banana- 1/2 3. potato- 1 medium or 1/2 large (I really prefer sweet potatoes though, much more flavor) The rest of the stuff on your list I wouldn't bother with since I wouldn't enjoy them nearly as much. |

At least the banana would have potassium, which helps with the leg cramps we sometimes get from LC WOE. I wouldn't touch the bread or potato.
