Cholesterol - phew!

Okay, so I just know that in the past I've been told that my cholesterol is "good" - but I never asked for numbers. This time around I was actually worried about it, b/c, well, I LOVE BACON and my love has increased in the last couple years. Anyhow, to tell the people I know who all say "you're on atkins? Better get your cholesterol checked" I figured I'd ask for the numbers, and if it was good, I'd rub it in a few peoples' faces. heehee. If it was bad, well, I'd keep quiet. (And yes, I know a lot of it's genetics - and both my parents have high cholesterol.)

Anyhow, so this is what I have:

Total 223
Triglicerades (sp?) 52
HDL 91
LDL 107

The nurse said it was good, and then said "wow, your HDL is incredible - whatever you're doing, keep doing it!" YAY! The bacon stays! (as will the avocado a day I eat, the salad dressings, the olive oil, the almonds...I love low carbing!!!)

Great job. BTW my HDL was 131 a few months ago. My Doc said she had never seen it that high.

You should get a T-Shirt printed up. "This is my cholesterol on Atkins". And on the back "Pass the bacon and shut your mouth."

Ahem. Anyway, well done you! Doing great.

Cholesterol is not a reliable indicator, it says nothing really. HDL, VLDL and triglycerides are. Your HDL and Tri are great so that alone is proof enough that you're on your way. Keep eating those fats!
