Citric Acid
I'm coming into my 3rd week of stall and I am hunting through my eats to see what might be causing it. My candidates are Splenda, Coffee, and citric acid. I've heard and read that citric acid can interfere with weight loss, but reading up on it it seems that citric acid is very basic to a lot of metabolic processes.
Can someone point to me to an article that explains what the deal with citric acid is? P.S. I make lemonade and drink a lot of it -- about 1 cup lemon juice to 2 quarts of water and about 1 cup of granulated Splenda. Anyway that's a big source of both citric acid and sucralose. |

You drink 1 cup of splenda daily? I wouldn't say that citric acid (vitamin c) is the culprit more so the carbs in the splenda and quite possibly the lemon juice. We're all different.
What else are you consuming? and most importantly is this a true stall or an adjustment period. |

Citric acid intolerance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Ascorbic acid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia From The Ketogenic Diet by Lyle McDonald....... Quote: Citric acid and aspartame In all likelihood, problems with diet soda relate to one of these two compounds, both of which are used as artifical sweeteners in diet producs. Citric acid may inhibit ketosis and diet sodas containing citric acid or apartame are not allowed for epileptic children on a ketogenic diet(14). However, there is some debate over this point(15). Possibly citric acid might affect ketosis by effecting liver metabolism, primarily the Krebs cycle. Some individuals report that citric acid prevents them from entering ketosis but does not affect ketosis once it has been established. One study, examining very low-calorie diets, found that the consumption of citric acid inhibited ketosis and increased appetite in many individuals(16). Ultimately, individuals will have to determine for themselves whether citric acid or aspartame has any effect on ketosis, appetite or fatloss on a ketogenic diet. References.... 14. Gash At. Thanks b_lou_who, that's what I am looking for. It turns out I'm not only stalled, but gaining weight slowly (I was at 205.5 now at 207!) I have been testing positive for ketones all this time, so either something is getting in the way or I am still eating too much.
I am going to nix the lemonade this week and go back to just water -- I'll report back what happens. Nothing else I am eating has much in the way of carbs. However if I get a positive result, we won't know if it was the sucralose, the citric acid, or both, or neither. Cause and effect in nutrition is very elusive thing to nail down, isn't it? |

I would suggest eat more veggies, also. Are you taking measurements? I hadn't lost weight in 3 weeks, but was still losing inches. You can shrink and not see it on the scale, esp if you exercise.
