Fat, Fat and More Fat

Why is it important to consume a high level of fats when low carbing?

anybody? Maybe it's just that "low fat" has been pounded into my head for the past 28 years but it just seems weird that one has to eat "high fat" in order to lose? Maybe I just need to get over this psychological road block....

You need fuel. You're switching from burning carbs to burning fats. Low fat means low fuel, which means metabolism slows down.

And since it is self regulating it keeps you from eating too much. It's filling and satiating(is that the right word?).

Maybe this will help, I know it did me and makes this WOE sound more sensible.

Quote:
When the body is in the fat burning state — where it has no carbohydrate to burn and is breaking down body fat for fuel, the body is in a state of ketosis-lipolysis (ketosis for short.) This is the only metabolic pathway for fat breakdown (lipolysis.) Therefore, there is no lipolysis without ketosis, no ketosis without lipolysis. The two terms are biologically linked and, therefore, it is appropriate that they be linguistically linked
This is just a small portion of the explanation of ketosis and using fat stored in our body to lose weight rather than carbs. If you want I can PM you or email you the link.

Hope this helps.

Actually, how much fat you need to eat depends on how big you are. If you have a lot of weight to lose, you will need extra fat calories to supply energy to run your basic metabolism. If you are small you need a lot less calories and eating too much fat on a low carb diet can stall you completely.

Fat is supposed to make people feel more satiety and keep you from being hungry. I find that when I'm low carbing I can eat a lot more fat and not gain weight, but to lose weight I have to count the calories and the carbs.
