Baked Chicken Yum! All sides are so high in carbs...your only choice for a low carber is Steamed Veggies. I went out to dinner at a local italian rest. with the in-laws this weekend. It was so hard. I ordered a sausage sandwhich without the bun. It has sausage, chiles and cheese on it. It came out with chips on it. I was like oh great here we go....

If you don't do steak (blasphemer!
) then eat the chicken. I don't like steamed veggies plain. So tonight we went out and I had steak (of course) and loaded broccoli. Some places will make broccoli like a loaded baked potato. |

I almost always get a salad with the fattiest dressing possible. I get a meat, and a non-starchy veggie.

Depends on where I go. Some places I'll get steak (texas roadhouse), some places I'll have the grilled chicken salad (Buffalo Wings and Rings), Some places I'll have the fish (Local fine dining make the best orange roughy with scallops).
Now if you were to ask if I get the veggies..that would be a different story...some places have great steamed veggies, some are really icky. LOL Sometimes I just skip em or have a double salad if it is a choice. |

Regardless of where you go, just make the best choices you can. Because unfortunately, wherever you go the best choice is still going to have hidden carbs in it even if it is just steamed veggies or grilled meat.

I'm not so much into fish, so I'd definitely take the chicken. I don't often order steamed veggies though because they usually include lots of veggies that I either don't like or can't eat anyway. Salad is a better option for me. Can't go wrong with lettuce and tomatoes!

Steak too. Not because I'm actually that huge a steak lover, but because I can't cook it very well at home, always ends up too tough. But in a restaurant they know what they are doing, so I take the opportunity to get a tasty one!
Basically, I try to stick to whatever meat, fish or veggies that seem least messed about with. |

If I'm not at a really nice steakhouse I always get wings! Yes, they're deep fried (check for transfat), but they're a nice treat and really fun to eat with all that hot sauce. Luckily blue cheese and ranch are low carb!

I eat a wide variety of protein at home (chicken, fish, turkey, buffalo, beef, duck, pork, eggs, nuts, cottage cheese, and the list goes on), but at restaurants, it's usually beef with two veggie sides. Usually a salad beforehand, and something like spinach with the entree. Loaded Broccoli is something I heard about on this board and I have been ordering it at steakhouses ever since - it really is a good idea, isn't it? Whoever I'm dining with will have a bite and almost always vows to have it next time.

Hey crzycatlady..I have a question for you (and it will sound like I am stupid I know). When you order the loaded broccoli do they just put cheese and bacon bits on it? If not then what? I was going to get some broccoli at the grocery store today, but they were OUT!!I was going to have some loaded broccoli for lunch

This is tough! There is so many restaurants that use bread on all their meats, trans fat and include junk like French fries, chips, breaded sides and more breaded sides. When I eat out I order steak, grilled chicken, or fish and steamed veggies.
We loved ordering starters but this is pretty much out of the question now that were doing LC. Chilis used to be one of my favorites but it's hard eating there now since most of their sides and meats are breaded. My favorite restaurant now is Outback Steakhouse cause they have really good steak and chicken and they steam their broccoli perfectly (Not over cooked). It's to bad they put sugar on their yams, I love their yams!

Just be sure to ask that they are not breaded. Otherwise, I am a steak, salad and broccoli girl (either loaded or with butter). ![]() |
