Gina, how much are you using? Maybe you should reduce your intake for a bit and see if you can work back up to it.

Not everyone can do coconut oil. It makes me ill. I wish I could use it! I had to toss almost $40 in product!

I agree with Cleo as well, as there are lots of ppl who it just doesn't agree with or even are allergic to it. How are you using it? For me, I can't do any of this "off the spoon", coconut bark, ect. I have to use mine in cooking, any meats get slathered in it and I don't even taste the coconutty flavor that has a tendency to make my nose curl.

I can't do it either. Too bad, the benefits are almost worth the vomiting. Almost.

Gina

I was so sick this morning, most of the morning.. I don't know if it's the CO or the splenda that is in the cream cheese muffins or the spenda in the crystal lite drinks.

Yesterday, I drank alot of crystal lite and I also ate 3 cream cheese muffins.

This morning I took a heaping tbs of CO and I was in the bathroom all morning.

I'm really not sure if it was that though. I wasn't throwing up.. I had the runs all morning and just now subsided. No matter what I put in my mouth, 15 mins later it came out. I am afraid to even eat anything.

I will just drink tea for the day and hopefully it will go away. I will try the CO oil again tomorrow morning.

Does anyone experience the symptoms I have had???

I'm just starting with coconut oil. Yesterday, I think I over did it. Felt a little green.

Today, I started with just a small pc of bark and so far so good. I'm definitely going to proceed with caution.

I also took a heaping tablespoon on an empty stomach!!

NEVER again will I do that.

Like I said.. I haven't been able to eat a morsel of food since 5:00 this morning.

I drank 50 ounces of water, a cup of coffee, and a cup of tea.

I will do what your doing.

Up until today, I was using it too cook with and I didn't have any problems until I ingested it RAW! ACCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKK lol

My experience was the same as yours Gina. I used 2-3 TBSP a day for a couple weeks, then I started getting really sick. I had to give it up completely.

Since you were fine at first and now you're getting sick, perhaps your coconut oil is contaminated?

Nan

It's highly unlikely that the three of us have contamated CO.

Yeah, but I'd still be interested to know if you had the same reaction from a fresh jar.

Oh, I don't know..

All I know is I was SICK all morning!

I will ingest it more carefully now..

If the benefits outweigh the risks, then I'll take it and suffer.

I'll just have too suffer it thru

I really haven't read up on it and need too...

I used it sparingly today and did not feel green. I'm still intrigued by all the good stuff that I am reading about it.

I love the coconut bark....copies the recipe for the coconut mud. But....I don't want it to be too good. I don't wanna feel like I did the first day. Just green all day.

I will say that my prior diet promoted very low fat and so the "green" I felt may not just be from the coconut oil, it could be that I had beef for the first time in a long time that day (roast beef) and I had added a little butter to it when I browned it. My body is just not use to that much fat......so slow and steady may win the coconut oil race for me.

Three little words.

Coconut. Oil. Mud.

Write them down.

Make it. Eat it. Love your coconut oil.

(Ok, so maybe coconut isn't such a small word. . .but you get me. )

Gosh, I thought it was just me. If coconut oil touches my face, the skin immediately chaps. Last time I licked off a spoon of coconut oil, the place it touched my lips was chapped for 3 days. It makes my heart race so I finally had to throw it away.

Sesame oil (not the Asian toasted kind) is what I use now for cooking, adding to smoothies, oil pulling, etc.

I recently read "Eat Fat Lose Fat" by Mary Enig and Sally Fallon. They say that the nausea is due to the gallbladder dumping bile triggered by the ingestion of the coconut oil not yeast dieoff as is generally supported here at LCF. Which would make sense because I don't get nauseated after ingesting co and I wonder if this is because I had my gallbladder removed. They recommend going slowly and trying smaller amounts of co-everyone is different and a different amount is needed by everyone.

That makes sense. Priming the Gallbladder. I also think it can be the yeast, one or the other or even both.

Interesting. I have GOT to read that book.

Hi Lisa,
Long time no see!!

I have to disagree with the dynamic duo.
I haven't had a gallbladder since 1988 and since LCing I've had days where the CO made me deathly ill and I felt like vomiting and days where I had non-stop intestinal distress, from the CO.

Then, I backed off the amount I was taking in and made sure I wasn't eating too much fat at one meal, I saved my coconut oil for in-between meals rather than including it in a fatty meal.

I am eating about 3 TB a day, but I slowly worked up to that because of my previous nausea and intestinal upset.

Now, I save it for a midday snack, mixed with organic peanut butter, unsweetened cocoa and a drop of stevia. No nausea.

For those who get sick from CO, it might be worth trying to stop completely and then slowly, very slowly, re-introduce it, 1 TEASPOON at a time, mixed with something else, not by itself.

Is the heart racing thing a common side effect?

for me, yes, and i don't have a gallbladder anymore, so that can't be why it makes me nauseous. I think it's b/c my body isn't used to it?

Yes, it could be. Are you working up slowly and not taking too much at once?
Are you taking it with some other food but not too much fat at once?
That has helped me, backing off to really small portions and then slowly moving up.

I believe it's a sign of too much fat....if you're consuming high fat anyway and adding coconut oil, your liver can reject it hence the nausea.

well, after starting CO yesterday, I was fine in the morning with it in my coffee, then had some as butter on my green beans for lunch. Felt kinda weird in the afternoon, but not sick. So it was ok.

Then last night didn't really eat dinner. Really busy and didn't feel like it. So, maybe 1 tspn in the 1 cup of coffee, then maybe 1 or 2 tspns at lunch.

today I'll have it in my two cups of coffee and see how I do.

BTW, I don't know if it was b/c I didn't really eat dinner last night or the CO or both, but the whoosh fairy visited me and stole 2.2 lbs last night. Woohoo!
