Prayer -- does it help you stay on the low-carb track?

This is my day 3 of re-re-re-re-re-re-induction. Breaking my carb addiction and staying on track has been very difficult. I've failed many times, often on day one. This time I've made it through three days. Silly as it may sound to some, I'm using prayer to help me ignore my carb cravings, and so far it's working. Am I alone in seeking celestial help with staying on the low-carb wagon?

I'm so tired of being fat. Seeing all these before and after pics really makes me want to do the same. If prayer works for me, then all I can say is "amen!"

I use prayer and meditation daily to help me stay calm and centered. Praying before meals is way to slow everything down after the rush to get the meal ready and the family seated.

Prayer is an integral part of every phase of my life, fitness included. I treat my body as a gift -- what it is. Making the right choices, keeping it healthy and strong, is all part of honoring God. He made me, He sustains me, He gives me hope, He is a part of everything I do. Without my daily talks with Him, I would be nothing.

wel, obviously prayer does not do the work, we do. However, yes, prayer and positive imagery help me visualize what i will eat all day long.

I picture myself ordering food that is on my plan if there is a work party at a restaurant.

I picture myself eating my low carb snack in place of office birthday parties.

i ask God several times a day to help me remember my food plan and remember that my body is a gift.

I was raised as a proud Jew, so my mantra has always been to "Trust in God, but tie your camel tight."

My camel is better than tight; he's also cross-gartered.

I am a Christian now, but I still have a very big mentality of doing for myself. God has enough to do, in my narrow view, without worrying whether I put my lips on a donut. So, in an effort to not worry God or bother Him, I am just making the effort to git r done and save the prayer for those things I need. I think I'm making Him proud by doing my best, even if I occasionally trip into a vat of tomato sauce.

I say whatever works, do it. I'm not religious at all, but I find a lot of similarities between prayer and meditation. And every night when I go to bed, I lie there and think about my day and the mistakes I may have made, how I can improve my life and the lives of those I love. Introspection and self analysis are very important.

yay God!

oddly enough, it didn't occur to me to pray about losing weight, even though I pray about everything else. I guess I'm worried about it being a vanity thing and that I might be doing it for the wrong reasons and thus God doesn't care about whether I can wear size 4 jeans.

in all honesty, no. It never even occurred to me to pray for sticking to my plan. But if it works for you ... go for it.

Wow, very interesting. Some wonderful opinions and approaches. FloridaShell, thank you for putting me into your prayers! I'm honored -- and I've stayed on track. I've finished 5 LC days now and starting sometime Friday, calmness replaced my roaring carb cravings. Now I'm hoping (and praying) this wonderful not-hungry calmness will stick around, stop feeling odd, and start feeling normal, lol.

I agree with the poster who said they don't like to pray about weight because it might be a vanity thing- I ahve mixed feelings- I definitely pray to God to help me make healthy choices and control my addiction to food so I can have a healthier life and serve Him better, but I never actually pray to have the numbers on my scale move...

Being a Catholic definitely helps me with dieting though, because we believe that doing without something you want can be a form of prayer. And I often offer up my going without a snack etc.. as a form of prayer through sacrifice...

There is a thick line between vanity and loving your body enough to take care of it. Vanity covers a wider range of issues from self involvement to jealousy.

prayer never hurts...

whether or not u get the answer u were seeking. 1 of the advantages of being eclectic (a euphemism for devout heathen, in my case) is that i never run out of gods to invoke. Pick one & pray. i certainly hope that he, or she will help u in your desire to stay on plan. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

I believe He does care about even the things we see as little, I know He cared when I cried out to Him to help me find a way to lose weight. At almost 300 lbs., it was way past a vanity thing.

Yes!! prayer works, i asked to have the desire for food to be taken away, and It really has. I also ask to help me stay on plan. God is awesome..He wants us to ask for any thing our heart desires. You have not cause you ask not. I know the Lord led me to low carb. Thank You Lord

I don't do anything without prayer. What I want most out of life is to be friends with my creator, so talking to him about everything I do is a pretty high priority in my life.
I don't know if prayer helps with lowcarbing per se, but recognizing how small I am in the big scheme of things, and how important I am to God does help me get through my own issues time after time.
