Allow me to introduce myself...

Hi,

I'm Nancy. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks and just joined the other day and started posting. I tried Atkins several years ago and I lost 25lbs in 5 months. Before I did that I thought carb addiction was a load of crap. I couldn't understand how you could be addicted to a basic componant of food but once I tried the diet I knew without a doubt that all these years I've been carb addicted. But I had a hard time following the diet and went off it. I gained back the weight and a little more. Tried off and on after that but it was always so hard to kick the carbs.

Well I've been working a full-time desk job and have gained at least 20lbs since I started a year and a half ago. I reached a high-point weight-wise and finally decided that enough was enough. I joined Weight Watchers at work, a 17 week program. Just couldn't bring myself to count points. Swore to myself that I'd give Atkins another try. It took me until week 15 to final get started. What motivated was having to stop on my stairs up to my apartment 4 times one night to make it all the way to my door (in my defense it is a big staircase). Well my apartment ain't gettin' any lower and don't plan on moving anytime soon.

Anyway, I started back on Atkins on June 12th. I couldn't bring myself to do a strict induction. I had to ease my way into it by upping my protein and cutting down the carbs. Detoxing from the carbs and getting into ketosis was tough. I had hellish hunger for four days but I stuck with it. I swear I would have eaten the furniture if you'd poured gravy on it! But I made it through and now I'm not thinking of this as a diet so much as the way I eat now.

My stats are: female, age 39 in two days ( to me), 5'5", and the scale this morning said 304.5

My first goal, my mini-mini goal is to get out of the 300's. My mini-goal is to get back to my "set-point" of 280lbs. I hovered around 280-286 for many years and I felt okay then. I'm so uncomfortable when I exceed that. Then my next goal is to get to 250lbs in time for the office holiday party in December. I want to buy a pretty pretty dress and have everybody fuss over me and tell me how great I look. My next goal will be to reach 199 or less by my 40th...I want to have a ONEderful 40th b-day next year. Then after that, I'm not sure. I'll figure it out when I get there.

So that's my story in a big-ass nutshell. Hope I didn't bore ya.

Now talk to me!!!

Thank you Andrea, Darkfire, and somethingblue!

I was so happy to find such a nice low-carb community to join! I was afraid there'd be no support since the diet is not in it's fad phase any longer. The first time I tried was when it was all the rage, ya know.

Thank you KROERT, gladsome, Holly, and tybeeanna!!

I plan on "crashing" the Weight Watchers meeting tomorrow just to get weighed in. On my 17th and last weekly meeting, I'd lost 10lbs in two weeks according to her scale. I've lost 5.5lbs according to my home scale since then, so I'm interested in knowing what their scale says after a month.

Well Maria, the cult leader...errr, WW's leader, said I was free to stop by anytime. So I'll pop in when she's setting up and ask her to weigh me. Then when she's told me I've lost 80 million kazillion lbs, I'll say "thanks!, I've been drinking heavy cream everyday for six weeks! mmmwahahaha"

Hi and welcome.

You and I are about the same age and started Atkins about the same time. I started about June 11. I tried it a couple of other times in the past, but felt so bad on day three on induction that I just quit. I figured if a diet made me feel that bad, it had to be unhealthy. Obviously I was very wrong.

You are so right about how induction can be pretty, well, awful. This time I did not give up and am so glad. I feel a lot better and the food addiction and cravings are gone.

Hang in there as you meet you min-mini goals, mini goals, and big goals. I hope you get to your 40th next year healthier than ever.

WELCOME, Nanberrycritter!
This is a great place to learn and encourage and be encouraged. I totally credit LCF for helping me start and stay on plan, and I hope you'll find it a great support, too.
Feels great to finally break through those set points. You can do this!

Thanks ladyathome, MissBeth, YellowRoseTX, and winifred!

Isn't it wonderful to no longer be obsessed with getting your next sugar fix?! I was at a birthday party, mine actually, well partly mine it's a family combo month of July birthdays party, and I didn't have cake. I didn't want the cake. Now this good cake. Not store bought cake. Or box mix cake. This is our delicious, made from scratch, treasured family recipe (ok, I found the recipe on the side of the cocoa container years ago but my mom, my sis, and I all make this cake and we treasure every bite). This is chocolate cake, so good it makes your toes curl (if you're prone to that sort of thing) cake. With real buttercream frosting! AND I STILL DID NOT WANT THE CAKE!!!

I ate a slice of watermelon instead. Yeah, not on the plan but if wasn't have the to-die-for "secret" family recipe, toe-curlin' chocolate cake, I was still gonna have something. It was a party after all. Plus I could tell by looking at it that it wasn't super sweet, so I ate a wedge. I enjoyed it. I didn't set off cravings...yay!

Welcome! Sounds like you've got it figured out there and you;re off to a good start. Induction is quite a shock to the system, so if you find it's too harsh and will just end up making you go off plan, then I think it's perfectly fine to ease into things, cutting the carbs gradually. So you won't get the super-dramatic losses of Induction, but what good is that loss if you go straight off the plan and gain it all right back at once? Slow and steady wins the race.

Thank you junkfoodmonkey, Sharon, Phil, kathy76, and Lea!

I'm at work right now. I'm eating a bowl of tuna, peas, & cheese for lunch today. Yummmm... I zap it in the microwave to get it warm and gooey. It's like a tuna melt without the bread. I refuse to give up green peas. They are one of my favorite veggies.

I "crashed" the WW meeting today, well okay I just stopped by before she started. She weighed me but I was only down a pound from the last time, four weeks ago! Ack! It's official, I hate that scale. I know I'm smaller, darn it!
