another question about fat

as long as i keep my carbs very low, can a person eat a high fat diet? Im not talking about the salad and veggies, i'm talking about having oatmeal for breakfast and maybe a slice of Eziekel bread with my lunch. Can you have these kinds of carbs and still eat a high fat diet? What happens when you eat high fat with say maybe a slice of the bread. What does it turn in to.

I've always wondered this. I do the high fat, with very little carb, but sometimes like these other things. Could a person do this type of eating for a day, and not have the high fat when you are eating the oatmeal and bread? Then go back to the high fat the next day. what would happen?

Hope this makes sense

Thank you!!

Which low-carb program are you attempting, and have you read the book for it?

I do Atkins, and read the book, I lost my weight about 5 years ago, but this past winter kind of got off the program and gained about 25# back. I didn't eat this much fat before when i lost the weight, so was wondering aout it. I was kind of doing some maintance with the grains, but it gets out of hand with me. I was just wondering what happens if you eat to much fats with some grains.

I *THINK* that it needs to be one or the other.
High Fat + High Carbs = Body Fat

I know you're not talking about HIGH Carbs, just higher than Low Carbs... I think the key is to figure out your CCL (Crytical Carbohydrate Level)... if you are going to be eating above that then you probably need to eat low fat at those times.

Is the bread and oatmeal worth it? I'm serious.

I would go by the book. I don't see many people who make their own plans and manage to lose/keep it off in the long term.

Most of the happy maintainers did it by the book. There's a reason Dr Atkins wrote it the way he did. If he thought you could lose "your" way I think he would have said so.

Barry Grove's says (I am assuming he is speaking of a person with no other health or metabolic issues) that one can safely eat as much as 60 grams of carbs (including bread) and a high fat diet, and lose weight..... As long as the removed carb calories are replaced with fat and not just removed to invoke starvation.

Hubby loses well eating 60-80 grams of carbs, and he eats around 75% fat too.

I couldn't personally do it, but it CAN be done... you just may not achieve fast weight loss like someone who is eating 20 or less, so your character and motivation is a factor too.

Oh and do NOT leave out the fat!

Hubby eats 2 slices of bread everyday, and I slather on about 1tbs of coconut oil and another tbs of butter, loads of mayo, cheese and double meat.

Sort of the same amount of food I used to send him with 2 sandwiches.

And I ALWAYS make my kids eat a fat with their carbs, protein too if I can.
