TIRED!!!

Good Morning Everyone, I'm soooooo darn tired today. I can't even seem to move. I've been eating alot also, and I don't understand why this feeling continues much on a daily basis. This is my 8th day in induction. I ended up buying Ketostix just too see if I was really and ketosis and much to my surprise, I WAS NOT, so that isn't the reason I'm exhausted! Yesterday, here is my menu for the whole day. B. two hard boiled eggs with 3 slices of bacon. L. A med size tomato with evoo and a can of tuna. D. 6 oz of steak with a cup of lettus. S. two sf jellos and only 26 ounces of water. two cups of tea with spenda and heavy cream. This is far from starving! I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. I haven't even been able to do a walk, that's how tired I've been. I think I had one day out of the 8 they I actually felt good! I did have two diet tonic waters with vodka on Sunday. Wonder if that did it?? I always had a few drinks on the weekends and never had this problem before, but who knows, the body changes as we age Any suggestions?? Thanks

Well, it actually is starving, that is not enough food. A can of tuna for lunch? who can live like that? I had a pound of high fat ground beef for lunch yesterday. I eat more for breakfast than you eat all day, I would be tired too.

SueAre you serious???? lol I ate a tomotoe with the tuna... ![]() I thought I was eating too much!!! Guess I'll have to add more FAT, which I really don't enjoy. ![]() |

I eat well over 2000 calories a day and 100 grams of fat a day, but my carbs are zero (maybe 2 a day from my coffee). I eat high fat meat all day and I am super thin and fit. It is really hard, especially after years of low fat thinking. You have to learn to change your thinking, you need to eat a lot more, eat natural foods like meat. Avoid all processed foods and soda. Good luck, kust try it for 2 weeks, you have nothing to lose by trying.

What is your current weight? I tend to go about 100-200 calories below that...
Example I eat 1200-1400 my weight is 138.... Eat more... lose more.... it's true |

Go to Fitday.com, it is free and you can log all the food you eat. I don't think you're eating enough carbs. Remember, you must get 12-15 NET carbs of vegetables each day. I also had the "blahs" when I switched over, but it is only temporary. I would cut back or cut out the alcohol for a week or two until your body starts burning your body fat. Also, make sure you drink a lot of water to flush out the fat. Do you have a copy of the Atkins book? Best advice is to read it and follow exactly what it says.

Aside from your eating, are you simply getting enough sleep? Also, how is your emotional well being? I read an article that a lot people when going through depression, misdiagnose themselves thinking it's just fatigue, when really there's a lot more.

Yes, Lucky, I am getting plenty of sleep. I sleep at least 7 hours a night, but not st8 through the night, however, I do sleep.
NO, I am not depressed at all. This isn't my first time doing Atkins. I did Atkins way back in the early 80's but I don't remember ever feeling this way after 8 days of induction. I would always have alot of energy, but I simply do not, and it's day after day. Maybe it'll pass! I don't want to throw the towel in, so I'll wait it out! Diana? I weight 180 and want to lose just the 40 pds I gained, 10 of it in 04 and 30 pds from quitting smoking on xmas day 12/07... 7 MONTHS smoke free!! ![]() |

I would suggest then 1600 calories at LEAST!!! Get a good amoutn of fats in butter, oils... Watch Protein, excess can be stored in the liver as Glucose.

i feel very tired too this time. i am on day 8 also. i know i don't sleep enough ( my son makes sure of that)i am in ketosis, i am having plenty of fat through co. i started thinking maybe its the heat or maybe i'm just lazy. i remember ketosis last time and i was loaded with energy. i may try adding more carbs.

Gina,
I used the ketostix a little bit ago and they did turn purple, not a dark purple but they are purple. I thought the darker the purple, the more fat you burn??? It's been so long since I've done Atkins, I don't remember everything about it. I have never used the stix much because I get obsessed with them, if you know what I mean????? ![]() It sure is awful when your very tired, but it'll pass, I know it! ![]() |

You might want to try drinking more water and some vitamins.I was so tired and upped my water intake and started vitamins it made a BIG difference in how I felt.I drink at least 112 ozs. a day.

Ketosticks only tell you there are ketones present, the shade does not reflect that you are burning more or less fat. You could be dehydrated, if not there are many other reasons one could show lighter or darker.
Anything other than beige means ketosis, like a pregnancy test means you are pregnant or not. The shades are for diabetics to measure the density of ketones vs: urine, because they ARE eating carbs, and having the ketones spill over into their urine is not a good idea.. the more ketones present..... the more dangerous for them. They are also not a good gauge to see if it exists, some don't even register and lose weight well, as well as the opposite being true. And I get tired if my cals fal below 1500, over that, I feel GREAT!!

I was also soo tired for the first few weeks on Atkins, I had days when I could barely get off the couch, so just ride it out and let your body adjust.

Thanks Pro,
I am aware of what happens to diabetics as my dad is a diabetic and we check his ketones from time too time because Dr says it's dangerous if a diabetic is in ketosis! |
