Nitrite-free sandwich meats?
I have found only one brand here in town, by Hormel, I think, in a little brown box. Are there any deli-counter brands that are either organic or nitrite-free, or a bacon? My kids are big sandwich eaters, but like the really thin stuff, not just a chicken breast or leftover steak. Thanks!

my local latino market has uncured bacon, they call it pork bellies and their cured stuff is called bacon. The bellies have nothing added to them at all. Just pork. You might try to find an ethnic market if you can....

Thank you!! I need to make some phone calls...no Trader Joe's or Whole Foods here, sadly, but maybe someone will carry the Boar's Head. I can look in the phone book for a Latino market as well...

Nitrite free bacon
I get mine at Publix here in Florida, I think it's armour but it says nitrite free right on the package. It's very good.

I love the Boar's Head low-sodium turkey! It's great as rollups with the low-sodium Baby Swiss, a few little tomato wedges, & dipped in mayo sweetened with a packet of Splenda (hello, Miracle Whip!). Using Romaine lettuce leaves as makeshift bread slices is even better.
But nothing beats buying a turkey breast and roasting it at home. Since turkey goes bad so quickly, I buy the tiniest one I can find so that I can put the whole thing away in two days. ![]() |
