Should I maintain or keep going? Buy new pants or alter old ones?

Well ... I'm sitting here with a pile of dress pants and skirts (3 pairs of pants and 3 skirts) and feeling incredibly frustrated ... WHY??? (you might ask). Because they are all too big!!!! Sure, I have enough clothing for the summer, but I'm starting to worry about what I'm going to do in September. I don't have the patience for thrift stores ... we don't seem to have any decent ones anywhere near where I live ... Like I said, I should be thrilled -- but I'm starting to feel guilty buying clothing. I haven't even mentioned the two blouses that are going to need to come in also.

Do I buy new pants and such OR taylor them in? Do I take them to a tailor OR should I get my Aunt/Mom to do them for me? I know that the three skirts and 1 pair of grey dress pants will be worth it ... But what about the other pairs that have ALREADY been taken in by a family member? It seems never ending!!!!!

I guess this all comes down to -- am I ready to start maintaining my weight loss? You know what I mean? I really need to take a picture or two and post them so that you guys can give an honest opinion. I'm straddling the line between a size 8 and size 10 in pant size (the store I was at tonight was all 8's ... although some stores I need the 10 ..) and fit into a size 7 for a jacket I tried tonight ... usually a size M or L for tops if they aren't specific sizes ... 5'5"-5'6" (between the heights) and 152-153 lbs.

I am thrilled with where I'm at, but want to look the best that I can. Do I keep going or give it a rest for awhile -- as bring up the carb level enough so that I'm in manitenance. Do you know what I mean?

I don't know if I'm even getting across what I'm frustrated with tonight ... I got some amazing clothes today and felt very good in them ... I don't know if I'm experiencing guilt, am over-tired, or what ... blah!?!?!?! I guess I just want to look great in everything that I put on and feel some remorse for having spent money on clothing that is now too big -- is this going to happen again with my recent purchases???

Anyways, thanks for listening guys .. I know it will pass ... I'm pretty sure that much of this griping has to do with close approach to TOM (I broke out with two zits the other day ... only happens around that time with hormones and all...)

However, I would love everyone's opinions -- buy new pants or get the ones I haev taken in for now? MOREOVER -- should I start maintaining where I'm at instead of losing more??? That's my huge question and would love advice.

I don't think anybody 'knows' the answer you are looking for.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure we'll all agree that was the best decision you could make...

I think you should go to Walmart, they have very reasonable price clothes...you can find something that is very cute, very hip, but will stay with you while you are in between sizes.

Regarding if you should maintain or not....the fact that you ask tells me you probably want to lose a few more pounds?? Like the previous poster said, it is something only you will know for yourself, if you have pictures, post them, I will be honest and not tell you what you want to hear!

Since you asked for opinions, here is mine.....

Do you love the 3 skirts? If so, alter them. If not, buy something you love that fits well.

Do you live in a climate that gets in the 50's? If not, no need to wear pants. Wait until the fall or winter when you need them and see what size you are then to decide what to do.

Dresses may be a good option to purchase while you are losing the rest of your weight.

prices on a tailor are not usually too high. if it's a nip or tuck I say go for it. If not, spend a few dollars more and get ones that are new and make you feel good.

If you're feeling pleased with your current size, then I suggest maintaining for a bit and then deciding what you want to do next. I think when we're in "weight loss mode" that it's easy to think that the smaller we get, the better it is. That's not always the case.

My "best" weight is turning out to be the weight that I can easily maintain by eating a variety of healthy whole foods and exercising on a regular basis. I'm not obsessing over food or dieting, and it's such a relief. That said, maintenance can be just as much of a challenge as losing weight, and you'll have to figure out how you handle it when the excitement of seeing the scale go down goes away.

Good luck with your decision and congratulations on your weight loss!

Rachel

Don't let clothes dictate the decision. Stand in front of a mirror naked. Do you feel good about your body image? Do you feel you are a healthy size? Do you feel you are at the body size that you want to stay with for the rest of your life?
Whatever, your decision....things can always change.
Congrats on a job well done!

I've never understood 'the guilts' over clothing purchases. You need stuff to wear, so why not look good in things that fit? I buy things on sale, off-season, in a size smaller at times...I almost never pay full price but always have something to wear now, and in the future. Macy's is my drug of choice - they have amazing clearance racks and good quality merchandise. I've bought beautiful stuff marked down as much as 90% there! My only advice is to shop smart and stick to primary colors if you're still losing; then you can "commit" to definitive patterns and prints in your goal size, whatever that turns out to be. CONGRATULATIONS on having such a great problem.

Hi everyone,
I'm feeling better about the shopping today. I wanted to thank everyone for the support. I think part of my struggle is that I have gone through so many clothing sizes (I started at a size 24/26 and am now at a size 8/10) I'm thrilled with the accomplishment but at the same time and sitting here going, am I just giong to lose more?

I took the 3 pants and 3 skirts (and a dress) to the taylor ... I also went shopping and bought a really cute cardigan and cami on sale (cardigan was originally $90 and I got it for $24; cami was originally $68 and I got it for $19) ... I alsobought a dress (originally $70 and I got it for $30) I'm always buying things on sale -- so I guess I shouldn't feel totally guilty.

I love clothing and how they make me feel ... hahaha.. but you know what I mean about the moving down in sizes ... I'm pretty close to goal nwo ... and then I think I'll maintain for a time and see whether I'm just on a high from seeing the number go down or whether it's actually that I need to lose more .. do you know what I mean???? Does that make sense at all? I tend to obsess more about the numbers than anything else.. soo maybe ti's time to maintain for a little bit...

Luv_bug I'm not sure if I can help you much.

I will tell you I have been pondering nearly the same thing. I am now growing out of my favorite size 10-12 clothes. The ones I had nearly grown out of the oppsite way earlier this year as I was stretching the 12's. So, I too am on the fence trying to determine if I want to loose more as I will have to buy newer 10-8's. I don't want too because I am trying to consume less, purchase less, spend less. I'm so confused....

MsKimber,
congratulations on your weight loss :-)
I too am doing Atkins/Gluten-free (go figure) ... I'm actually doing a Candida Diet/Atkins. Does that make sense?

I hear you on the debate about shopping .. however, I LOVE the feeling of new clothes!!! Do you know hwat I mean?

Luv,

Come to my house, I have cloths in sizes from 8 to 20!! I have bags of thin cloths, medium weight cloths, and obese I refuse to throw them away.. They are prolly out of style by now, or either they will come back in style by the time I reach my goal

I am waiting for the day to get back into my smaller sizes.

Congratulations on your weight loss!!
