EGFT is based on a higher percentage of fat, and whatever level of carbohydrates one needs to lose or maintain (which from experience is different for EVERYONE) plus protein of course.
He speaks mostly about the lack of saturated fat in the American diet, and how detrimental it has been to everyone's health, not just the obese and overweight. For me it has been the 'golden ticket'... it is really a different approach to faster weight loss for me (if i can keep my calories up, I have been known to eat too little). And I have had (i am for real here) ZERO SUGAR CRAVINGS for 2 months, except if I indulge in more than 20 blueberries (with cream of course) at a time. He also does not think ketosis is necessary for weight loss... I know hubby is eating this way, not in ketosis, yet he has lost 8lbs in the last 3 months by upping his fat, and still eating 60-100+ grams of carbs a day. He said he feels MUCH better this way, than he did on Atkins (when he lost 40+ lbs). He is now 172lbs, 3lbs lower than his low weight on Atkins 3 years ago.. and is VERY happy. He is also not a fan of copious amounts of fruits and veggies, especially the '5 a day' rule that appears to have no scientific backing. Definitely worth a read if anything, then you can choose for yourself by being well informed, rather than taking my opinion LOL I am a HUGE fan, not saying I don't have a very soft spot for Dr A as well ![]() Last edited by Prozak : 07-18-2008 at 02:47 PM. |

I've done both and I am more comfy with EFGT. Right now I am losing at about 70-110g carbs per day, mostly from veggies and good grains. I didn't know if I would like (or lose) at this high a level but I find it very livable. I feel like I have to think less about what I eat and my preferences naturally gravitate to this type of program. I don't follow it to a "T" though, as I need to make other changes due to dietary restrictions. Definitely worth a read and then you can decide for yourself.

As I aim for 75% of my calories per day from fat, I'll have to read EFGT!

I tried to up my fats for several days, but found that when I did, my protein increased as well. I really can't figure out how to do that. I ate plenty of fatty meats, butter, mayo, cream, and Ranch Dressing. I don't care for avocados, either. Any suggestions or sample menus? Thanks!
