Smoke-free for 18 hours :)

I wrote about this several weeks ago... but finally did it... Took me several stops and starts... finally went to a hypnotist ... and now I'm smoke free for 18 hours!!!! Yipee!!! I'm on my way!

Want to hear something funny? Talked to the hypnotist about how I have had a lifelong struggle with weight and she talked to me about cutting carbs and how it was the only real thing that worked. A low carb hypnotist? Who knew they existed. LOL

So, she also put some suggestions in my CD about drinking more water, cutting carbs and exercising 6 days a week in addition to letting go of smoking. She also had me do a visualization of myself in a year, being strong, healthy, smoke free, and athletic.

So, my goal in a year is to Danskin Triathlon (msp). I can see myself crossing the finish line happy and healthy.

Visualization is a very powerful tool IMO.

Keep telling yourself how easy it, and when talking to others.. fake it if you must.

ALWAY speak of the positive benefits, and how good you feel.. and when you have those 'moments' (I know all too well about) think of something else that you love instead and take the focus off of the negative.

Good luck! I am also trying AGAIN. I took up smoking AGAIN at Christmas, after almost 3 years smoke free.

I have quit SO many time in the last 25 years:

I was ALWAYS a non smoker when I conceived my 3 babies... and when I smoked, I NEVER used birth control and never got pregnant. So all you young women PLEASE think about that coincidence.

1 year smoke free
20 months smoke free
2.5 years smoke free and this last time
almost 3 years.

Each time I started again, it was under duress and ALWAYS started with just the ONE little puff.

Best of luck, you are SO worth it!

Congrats! You can do it!

I'm on Day 14 today and it's already getting easier. I feel so much better and am about to get off my butt and start the C25K program now that my lungs are a bit clearer.

Yay! Congrats on being smoke free 18 hours! Those are the hardest and you're doing great! I completely agree with Prozak. Visualizing and telling yourself that you're not a smoker and don't want it helps. I did it and amazingly enough it helped a lot. I also had a lot of crushed ice throughout the day. I found that sometimes just keeping my mouth busy helped. When it really got bad I did deep breathing. All the inhaling/exhaling relaxed me and tricked my mind into thinking I was inhaling the cigarette smoke. LOL. It'll be 100 days for me on Saturday and this time it'll be for good! WE CAN DO IT, LauraAnn!!

I just hit my 4 year anniversary of being smoke free and it feels GREAT! You didn't ask but I'm going to give you a couple pieces of advice anyway

- Be prepared for a craving. Know how you will handle it and be prepared! They hit you like a ton of bricks even if you're feeling good. BUT- they DO PASS, so just ride them out for those few minutes.

- More of a reveal than advice, but I was very surprised how much I think about smoking- even now. I don't get those intense cravings anymore, but I still see myself as a smoker- I just choose not to smoke. Strange way to look at it, but it actually helped my mindset instead of that "can't" philosophy!

Congrats and good luck to you!

I use the patch...

it helps me because it helps deal with the nicotine withdrawals, while I can focus entirely on my emotional withdrawals. I use the patch until I am no longer ever thinking about a smoke.

I smoke mostly out of boredom, and because EVERYONE around me smokes (and I get left behind in the kitchen while they all pop out into the garage)

Congrats on being a non-smoker! Woohoo!

You want even better news? You just went sugar-free! I live near tobacco country and I can tell you that a lot of it is treated with sugar. So you just gave up your last sugar addiction. Bet those carb cravings are going to say goodbye real soon now. You just kicked two habits in one.

Congratulations on your quit! I'm into my 5th year smoke-free, and it's the best thing I've ever done for myself, hands down. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you check out Quit Smoking All Together with QuitNet.com - Stop Smoking Help and Cessation Support. It's a great site for quitting support (not that you won't get a lot of that here too)

I quit over 8 years ago. It is the best thing I ever did for myself! It helped me to fill out a card with my quit date and all the reasons I was quitting. I carried it with me.
I did gain weight when I quit - but who cares! Just do your best and remember that main thing is to get rid of the cigarettes.

When you have a craving remember it will pass and the only way to permanently get rid of cravings is to quit! It took me several trys at quitting before I suceeded, and I am thrilled I kept trying. I learned something each time that helped me.
