Can alcohol cause carb cravings and intense hunger?

I went out last night and ate on plan, except for one large tomatoe. LOL. It was such a treat ! I also drank vodka martinis, just plain vodka and blue cheese olives. Im starving today. I ate a big rib eye for breakfast. Usually 2 eggs fill me up because of Ketosis. I made sure to add coconut oil to my coffee. Im trying to fill up on fats. I am craving things again. Also I ate the whole steak and stiff felt empty. Is it the big beefsteak tomatoe? I wont drink again like this. Whoa the alcohol really hits you when you low carb.

I know if i drink even low carb alcoholic drinks, I want to eat like crazy. I think it lowers your defenses to stay on plan.

Alcohol lowers blood sugar causing cravings. This is a fact. Even Diabetics need to watch their alcohol intake because it can give you too low of blood sugar.

Here's what I find about drinking (and I have a WORLD of experience). When I drink, my inhabitions are lower, making it easier for me to slip and go off plan.

So I slip. Then I wake up hungover.

I have low blood sugar all day IN ADDITION to feeling like crap and usually cause further damage to myself and eat everything in sight, usually anything with carbs because I'm craving them and they're comforting.

So...the next morning I'm up 5 pounds due to all the extra carbs and THE WATER my body is holding onto, first sucked up by the carbs, then trying to stick around to hydrate my dehydrated body.

My advice if you are hungover...Lots of water and maybe an omlette or something for breakfast. Once you get some protein back into your body it really doesn't take that long to start feeling better and get your sugars back up.

Also, if you drank low carb beverages, such as Vodka with Club Soda (what I drink) you shouldn't be kicked out of ketosis (although your sticks may be light or show nothing).

BUT, note that your body is now burning the alcohol off first BEFORE it continues to burn any fat.

I believe it goes...

Alcohol
Carbs
Fat
Protein

Alcohol is a depressant, which accompanies that blood sugar drop. Many who imbibe of the adult libations also find that it is easier to consume more food than usual as a result.

Alcohol is one of those things which should be used with caution.

well I stayed on plan. which was a miricle . I wanted waffles, lol. I just ate the steak and feel better. I only drink pure vodka, nothing in it. I dont like it mixed with anything anyway. I did eat the big tomatoe, but I guess it could be worse. I had shrimp cocktail, salad with fresh mozz cheese and beefsteak tomatoe with fresh pesto. It was amazing. I was craving those veggies. I know the tomatoes are higher in carbs. I came home and ate a bunless burger. I had ony 3 drinks. LOL whoa, no more alcohol low carbing. I forgot how it effects me.

I find that alcohol (usually vodka and diet sprite) leads to strange occurrences. I wake up covered in bread crumbs, vaguely remember the jack in the box drive through at 2am, recollections of thinking I'm more attractive than I am the night before, find out the goddess from last night has more hair on her back than me...and a huge urge to go to Dennys for hangover food. Therefore, I know that even the best of intentions of sticking to the "plan" are thwarted by a juke box good time. I would stay away from the booze unless it's a planned cheat day or two....but good for you for sticking to it. And yes, the hunger does come with the dehydration...I just prefer to save my "fun" for when I'm not a fat ass...at least that way I feel like I've earned it.

ROLF! haha. Im a fat ass that likes a good time. I used to think this way, still do mosty. I was very social before gaining weight. Went out 5 times a week. Gained weight and avoided people and places. It made me gain more weight not going out and having fun. I need to be back out there more often . Fiance and I are going to start date night again every week. I avoided it because of being fat and it made me more depressed. So take your fat ass out and shake it baby!
