Starbucks Smoothie - Vivanno
Tuesday our Starbucks started serving a new smoothie they call Vivanno. There are two but the one I tried was the banana one & it was really good. They were giving out samples & then, if you liked it, they gave out coupons for a free one. The gal serving me said it only contained 270 calories & was one banana, protein powder & 2% milk with no HFCS at all! It's nice to know that there is another choice for me now if I have to meet someone there. I haven't been able to find out the carb count yet - company 'puter has a filter against Starbucks site - go figure. Anyone else happen to know???

Not lc friendly at all-most commercial smoothies are not. These are also made with milk and who knows the ingredients of their whey protein powder-not listed on the website.

Yes, bananas are delicious and nutritious but they are one of the more sugary fruits and are really high on the glycemic index, so not the best choice. Also, I'm sure they're not using sugar free chocolate syrup. I feel your excitement though
! It sounds yummy! |

They use cocoa powder and their "own" whey protein powder with no nutritional info listed for it.

Ohmygawd - 47 carbs???? Do you know how much real food I could eat for that many carbs? Well, duh, yea, you guys do know.
What a dissapointment - I really thought I'd found a good alternative to other non-friendly Starbucks "stuff". Obviosly not. Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. |

I read about the Vivanno in the USA Today not that long ago. I will not pay over $4 for something I could make at home that would be far healthier.
Seems like more fast-food places are also getting on the bandwagon and coming out with fruit smoothies, too. Taco Bell has fruteeze (sp?) now. I think it's made with real fruit & syrup. Don't they think the fruit is sweet enough? Why add syrup to it? Doesn't make any sense. McDonald's is planning to launch something, too-from what I remember. Daetona |

I love bananas. I need to add them to my list of things to have on my free weekends. But otherwise, I'll stick to avocados for my potassium.

At Starbucks your best bet is a coffee drink with sugar free syrup. Ask them to add a coupla shots of heavy cream or use some of your daily carb allowance for self-pour half and half. |

McDonald's has fruit smoothies here already. My kids have had them and say that they are tasty. I haven'y looked up the nutritional info on them, but I am sure they aren't low carb friendly (or healthy) by any means.

I stop by SB about once a week. In the summer, it's a venti iced decaf coffee with sf vanilla, cinnamon dulce, or caramel, topped off with about a quarter inch of heavy cream.
When it's cold out, it's a tall quad decaf heavy cream latte with one of the above mentioned sf syrups. |

Starbucks Double Shot
The only "new" drink at the 'Bux that is carb-friendly is the Starbucks Doubleshot. This is what I drink when I am working. I use SF hazelnut, freshly pulled espresso shots poured over ice, shaken vigorously, then topped off with about 1/2" of heavy cream. It reminds me a kaluha and cream. YUM!

I threw away my sample when the barista wasn't looking.
I was so glad I had when I read the nutrition info. |

LOL.....they offered me a sample yesterday. I politely declined, just saying "no thank you". The guy pushed it again and said "really, try it- it's awesome!". So I said "no thank you- I can't. I'm allergic to milk." Sooooo then I order my drink (with SOY milk) and he says "do you want that with whipped cream?"

I tried a sample of the chocolate vivanno yesterday when I stopped by for an iced americano. It actually surprised me that it wasn't as sweet at I thought it would be. And it was very filling. That little sample filled me up for 5 hours. That's how filling it was.
The clerk told me that they can customize the vivanno so if you wanted half and half or heavy cream in it, they can do that. I don't think they could subsitute anything for the banana...maybe lower sugar fruit? But then it wouldn't be chocolate banana....strawberry chocolate wouldn't be bad, though. Daetona

It's nice that they are willing to do substitutions but it's not LC any way you slice it (so to speak LOL).........the banana, the chocolate.......either way, it's half my carbs for the day and I consume many more carbs than most here..........

The drink, surprisingly, isn't all that sweet. But it sure isn't carb-friendly, no matter how you mix. |
