Tryng to give up my evening coffee.
We went to the Farmers Market today and I decided to check out the Organic Grocery (whoa expensive!) I did look around and found a teeny little bottle of SweetStevia or something like that for four dollars. I thought Hey might as well give it a try. I also found some little packets of Dandy Root "coffee". Little samples 3 for a dollar. I figured that might also help me with my evening coffee.
So, I came home and made a cup of the DandyBlend (I need two packets for the strength I liked and put in 4 drops of Stevia. First I put the Stevia on my tongue, and almost chucked the whole bottle out right then and there. But, I thought No, I have to give it chance.Well, my DandyBlend, stevia and HC is not bad. A lot better than I thought! It's quieted my craving, although my head is screaming for the caffeine at this point.

Me neither. I would rather go 50/50 mix on decaf and caf then go without..... Maybe if you do that for a while, then giving it up won't give you such a headache?

We tried "herbal" coffee for a while. It tasted great. But it's just too expensive.

Mark, yeah I'm hoping to just use it as a crutch until I don't need it.
I still plan on having my coffee in the morning though. |

when you figure out how to do this, let me know. 1/2 my carbs for the day are from my coffee and creamer in the morning. (don't like SF syrup and cream- I do coffeemate SF.) I've cut way back, but I'd like to stop. Problem is I enjoy it so much.

There seems to be really only 2 options in my opinion:
1) Stop the evening coffee. You'll crave it, you may get headache, etc., but that'll only last a week or so, and just about everything but the cravings can be helped with more water, sleep, and maybe some Tylenol or Motrin. And if it is the FLAVOR you crave, well just have decaf instead! ![]() 2) Find an amount of coffee that won't keep you up yet will still satisfy your craving/need for caffeine. If you have 3 cups, maybe try just 1 or 2. Or if you only have 1 cup, try making it weaker. Of course, you could also just slowly wean yourself off of the evening coffee, even if it is just a few sips less each night. Really though, the caffeine is giving you trouble, right? You can't sleep? Then it just seems silly that you'd continue to consume a STIMULANT as you're trying to go to sleep, you know? I know you may like the flavor, but decaf tastes exactly the same and it is a perfectly acceptable substitute. And you WILL go through caffeine withdrawals regardless, but a week of night time headaches (again, so for some NSAIDs) seems like a small price to pay for some much needed rest. ![]() Good luck, and I hope you figure out something that works for you soon!!

I love coffee. I use to drink it all day. Now I have it limited to nothing after noon. In the evenings I drink hot tea and I have come to truely enjoy it.
Now that I have quit the night time coffee, no more acid reflux for me that I have suffered with for so long. |

I started taking l-tyrosine (following The Diet Cure supplement protocol at the moment) and my coffee cravings have gone (almost completely)away. I take about 1500mg 3x a day, for 3 weeks now.
I no longer HAVE to have my morning coffee, but some days I still feel I want one in the afternoon. I used to have 2 (BIG) cups in the am and then a couple more in the afternoon. I have quit coffee several times cold turkey (painful headaches etc), but honestly this time I just lost interest in it. Good luck to you whatever you decide. Coffee is a tough one.

Well I have now switched from the DandyBlend to 1/2 caff and 1/2 decaf and I'm drinking it earlier. Now the problem I have is wanting to drink MORE because hey it's less caffeine! :laugh
I tried the stevia in coffee, and ew. It was bitter. I am also cutting back on my heavy cream, just using less. I am finding that less is just as good. |

Or you could try Folgers decaf instant. That's what I'm drinking right now, and it's cr@p. I'm no longer craving coffee tonight-lol!
Editing to say..wow, you're up late! It's after midnight by you, right? |

Yeah it is. I'm a night owl naturally but, if I went to lay down right now I'd be asleep right away, as opposed to not sleeping from teh caffeine. My kids actually just went to bed not to long ago! Summer gets our schedules all screwy.
