I was thinking the exact same thing! Maybe she's a vegitarian and this makes her mad, lol. Like she's ever had a weight problem in her life! ugh.

Why couldn't they just read the book and follow the plan!!! The prejudice against the Atkins approach is so ingrained it's scary! The vegetable protein people were consuming was probably soybean based. YUCK! Imagine how much better they would have done if they'd followed the plan.

This is still good news, though. Maybe I won't have to tell people I'm allergic when I turn down French fries!

So glad to find this thread! I had them turn up the TV at work and was silently rejoicing. Let the Atkins crave begin... again! Hopefully there won't be as much frankenfood out this time. Perhaps some of it will at least be sweetened with Truvia, Coke's new stevia sweetener.

lol, know what you mean. People act like you're strange, b/c *gasp* you won't eat fries?? Or croutons?? etc.

I just don't get how someone could be sittin right across from you snarfing down their "bagel bites" and ice cream and tell you that the way you are eating is unhealthy??

I know, I know!

I have a friend who's trying to control her cholesterol with low fat. Lots of whole grains and soy and only a little fish once a week for protein! She feels she's eating healthy and her doctor is thrilled with her diet but she's still having problems with her choleterol (she's thin as a rail) and I'm so afraid she's going to hurt herself with her way of eating. Of course, she feels the same about me!

We have a long way to go before the main stream doctors stop killing people with bad diet advice.

Hope she was watching the news tonight.

Just got back from dinner out with my girlfriends, we meet once a month and one of us chooses the restaurant. Tonight was a new Mexican place in our area. I had one glass of merlot, then ordered the beef fajitas, no rice, no beans and at the plate of beef with the sour cream and avocado. It was delish! Glad I was ok according to the latest news, LOL.

I think "they" are afraid to. Now they can say "Yes lowcarb works, but it is LOWfat-lowcarb so its OK." Lowfat-lowcarb is just a tweak that leads to more restriction. More of the "punish the gluttons" mentality (Can you tell I'm in the middle of Good Calories, Bad Calories?). No one wants to prove eating all that fat can actually be OK. It would be too much of a paradigm shift and call into question too many things that are embraced as givens. If fat is really OK, what else that "they" have been telling us is completely the opposite?

I'm really not usually a conspiracy theorist

There was a study done on 3 diets. #1 low fat #2 Mediterrean #3 low carb
The end result of the study was that in 1 year on the low fat diet the average weight loss was 6.4lbs. On the mediterrean diet it was 10 lbs and on low carb it was 10.6.

Yes but did anyone see the Today show?

they brought on thier resident MD correspondent (nancy snieder?) who basically countered the entire study and claimed it had a lot of holes and that low fat was still the way to go despite the study.

I thought it was pretty bold to basically say the study was bogus and that major medical journals were printing incorrect information.

Well, the diet news is hitting the early shows.

I thought the Early Show did a fairly good report.

GMA's Dr. Tim Johnson basically poo-pooed the entire study and recommended that people cut down on saturated and trans fats, refined carbs, cut down on calories and exercise. It must be so hard to be faced with evidence that shows that what you've been preaching for years could be entirely wrong! He even said that the difference in weight loss between low fat and low carb was insignificant!

I bet the American Heart Association is having a really bad day!

Average weight loss for those in the low-carb group was 10.3 pounds after two years. Those in the Mediterranean diet lost 10 pounds, and those on the low-fat regimen dropped 6.5.

Hello? Poor people. they need to come here and do their study!! Our results beat theirs 100 times over!!!

Im ALSO PMSING...hehe.....and Im also a bit peeved about Nancy Sneiderman and others in the media who STILL want to say 'low fat' is the thing to do!

I agree witht he above posters who say soont hey will also ADMIT that eating meats, butter and cheeses are 'A- OK'! Anne Curry also saying that atkins is 'bacona nd cheeseburgers' seems to have been brainwashed too. Funny how they never seem to mention the VEGGIES that are a vital part of the Atkins program! VEGGIES. VEGGIES. VEGGIES!! Anne Curry! (I wish she was a bit more educated.grrr)

Ok enough ranting. Im also thrilled to see this news. I am also emailing it to some of my anti Atkins 'friends' and family .

Now, this will be a great thing to have more low carb products out! I just grabbed my morning newspaper and there's an article titled "Low-carb diet best for weight" and I stepped on the scale to see 137.8 lbs - 138 lbs. Down from 148. I'll take it!

I gained weight this past year adding in whole grain pasta, brown rice, whole grain breads and popcorn. I've learned the hard way that starches are not my friend at all.

I just had basically a 10lb loss in less than a month on low carb. Our results are better because we follow the actual low carb I think.

Exactly Mark. There are a lot of people who made a lot of money off of people struggling with obesity. If word gets out that you just have to avoid grains, sugars and starches, there are going to be a bunch of people looking for new jobs
