I think the problem is we all post together and think we know each other. Then a subject comes up that shows a true personality! Ahh! We don't show much tolerance do we. Instead of helping and instructing in patience, we get upset when someone is not doing lc right.

It might sound fun and spunky if it were in person but the way it looks when typed is really mean and b****y! Some people just like to stir the pot I guess! It is sad though, I could get that kind of talking down to from the outside world. I came here for advice and support. Losing weight is harder and more time consuming than I ever thought it would be. Most of the time this site gives me that, the other 20% of the time it gets me going and makes me want to eat! May have to start looking for other alternatives!

You have to give yourself time to know all our various peep's quirky sence of humor.
I for one never find anything the regulars around here say is offensive because I have gotten to know their silly personality from their posts and find them down right fun.
Don't make the mistake of jumping to the wrong impression, after all, this is an online forum... and it is sometimes hard to just guess someones intent.

I could NOT agree MORE!!!! Sadly though I think sometimes it is typed, just the way it is meant....B****Y and that is sad since we should all be here for the same reasons....health!

I feel like if you don't want to help people when you read their threads and you can only come out w/ something nasty then do not read anynewbie threads and if you read one your "tired" of reading, then just move along. No need to post.

Too many of us feel bad about ourselves as it is....we dont' need a holier-than-thou person doing it!

ETA: I also want to add that if someone's frustrations w/ "newbies" and their way of eating is taking over their lives so much that they turn a post about "what is in someone's shopping" cart as another time to lash out...maybe you really need a break from newbie threads!

I have seen newbies post eating things they shouldn't but I have seen MANY posts about people saying as the OP mentioned seeing people at the grocery store! Two different topics....one had NOTHING to do with the other and since the whole "newbie" was already addressed I don't see why it was brought up again!

In some cases / some people this is true! We have all been there...desparate, wanting the weight off and willing to try anything. I think most of us have jumped into a plan before knowing the full details on it. I think most of us have tried a plan that just didn't click or fit our lifestyles. So why mock people for coming here and doing that?

What happen to a gentle reminder saying "first off Atkins isn't a jump in sort of thing and you should read the book"...when they say "my lifestyle is different why not a little suggestion of "then maybe Atkins isn't for you, at this time".....

Why all the hostility from some? I dont' think Dr. Atkins himself would get that upset...I think he would just be GLAD that someone is trying to get healthy. Again, Low carb is NOT for everyone and there are other plans that work for different people and different lifestyles.

Sometimes feel like I am moving to a new school when nobody will talk to you or answer a serious question you have because you haven't been here forever. Lately some of the things I have read if I read them when I first found this site I would of never come back.

When I started this WOL I wanted to tell every overweight person I saw, "I found the secret! I know how to get the weight off! It's really great!" But I knew that I wouldn't have appreciated it before changing my WOE and I also thought to myself, what if they already know and have lost like 100-lbs? So I only told people who asked me what I was doing to lose weight.

I look at other people's stuff on the conveyor belt at the grocery store and think, Wow, no real food. And Wow, look at all that packaging. Has anyone else noticed that the amount of garbage you have every week is a lot less on LC? Bags of fresh produce, fresh meat, cheeses, etc. take a lot less packaging.

Eat well everyone!

I agree! I would have thought "wow eating that way might make you thin but it also makes you grumpy and sarcastic" ....I hope anyone feeling that way looks closer though there are more helpful people then hurtful!

I just want to vent my opinion here.

Sometimes I feel that threads like these take the focus off of other threads where people may have genuine concerns and questions. But we (I am guilty as well) are so busy with reading the ones like this that we overlook the real concerns. JMHO.

There are bullies on every playground. It stinks that some folks are sometimes not so kind. Leave them to their misery, and let your own light shine.

Wow Smythe, that was very well said.

I can't really say that I ever notice what is in other people's carts.

I must say, though, that I get envious when I see a trim person eating some junk food that I happen to like. I can't help it.

And I probably have unkind thoughts about different things. I'm not perfect... I'm a work in progress.

I see it too, and it irks, and I'm thinking ---so why are YOU here? Know what I mean? It seems to me that most if not all of us are trying to either control our weight or stay healthy, or both, so if some of us were perfect and above it all, then I guess there would be no for such persons to even be here in the first place.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way.

I think I'll always be a work in progress because no matter how much I learn, or how much my focus is on health, or how much weight I lose, It is still a struggle for me because I still like junk. I never judge cause weight loss has not come easy for me, some days are a battle to stay on target. I have slipped many times, I just get back on and keep going.

Thanks for an interesting thread. I think I've been treated well at LCFriends. Not so well as another LC "support" list that took umbrage at my audacity in offering my life experience of 64yrs, more than half of that as a working professional who interviewed and got hired repeatedly at 400# of hard-working expertise in publishing. Did not get much pay. Did not get much promotion. Took a LOT of guff and abuse, as a fat person who is supposed to be grateful to have a job.

Slimmer friends are amazed to hear that I've been asked by a waiter at a Chinese restaurant what my weight is. I did not tell him. I saw his buddies clustered behind the kitchen door, having dared him to ask the fat woman what she weighed. My normal-weight co-worker was aghast that it should happen. Another time, a woman walked past me and then came to our table to give me a biz card for some weight loss program. The nerve of some folk is just amazing, as it quite ruined my enjoyment of being at that restaurant and dismayed the person I was eating with. The stranger had lost weight, I guess, and felt she could share that with a stranger enjoying a meal. Odd, to imagine that one might speak to a stranger about body weight, but strangers did that to me, approaching to tell me what a pretty face I have/had. Sigh.

Is it that being fat puts me in the category of a circus sideshow freak? Maybe so. Maybe being outsize in America means that strangers can hoot, holler and make fun of a person. Compared to that, what we write here at LCFriends seems pretty mild. I appreciate the kindness of smaller folk here and I honor their struggle to lose 10 or 20 pounds. It's never easy, losing the weight that we want to get rid of. I take all size folks as seriously as the fat folks like me. But I can be clumsy and I have offended people - to the extent that I was barred from That Other List and found my way here in Dec.2007. Lucky me, for I did not find such great support there as I've found here.

Life has a way of balancing out horrors and shocking events.

I'm so glad that I found my way here, even though it was a rough transition and I was afraid that I was marked for life as unfit for any LC support list. Still kind of clueless how I got thrown off that Other List. Clueless. Aspie!!!
