Great, I feel wonderful about weighing 133 lbs now! I just thought the pic made me look heavier than what I thought I should look! I appreciate all the kind words, y'all know EXACTLY how to make someone feel great. Thanks so much! BTW, isn't the camera suppose to add 10 lbs anyway?
And yes, I am healthy. That's what counts the most!

You have a BMI of 21.5.....right in the middle of the normal weight range

you should just concentrate on some weight training to firm things up if you think things are not looking just right
BMI MEANS NOTHING. IGNORE IT>

As a matter of fact, Paul Campos in The Diet Myth says that all the so-called studies out there show that a HIGHER BMI is more healthy than a lower one.

Hate to tell you this but a bmi of 21.5 is WAY TOO LOW.

This according to all the epidemiological studies.

Because of the information in this book I have readjusted my goal from 140 to 150-160.

I have come to realize (and Campos talks about this in his book) that being "thin" or having a low BMI gives one the illusion of youth. That's why most of us are so obsessed with getting thinner.

Let's face it, most of us were rail thin as teens and expected to stay that way our whole lives. Very unrealistic.

I'd really encourage everyone to get Campos's book and read it. Let me quote from the back cover:

Quote:
Obesity is a major health crisis, according to our government. After years of scrutinizing medical studies and interviewing leading doctors and scientists, Paul Campos is ready to lead the backlash against weight hysteria, proving that those extra pounds are not so bad for us after all. In this groundbreaking book, Paul Campos brings a rational new voice to America's weight debate.
The information he provides on how those damned weight tables and later BMI tables came about is enough to make your hair stand on end. Plus, he points out that this whole "epidemic" has been falsely brought about by the weight loss/pharmaceutical complex. They want your money. So they've manufactured this whole mess.

I'm not saying most Americans couldn't stand to drop a few. I still want to get about 30 pounds off my frame. I'm just saying the hysteria and compulsion to weigh a certain number or measure our bodies against an arbitrary scale (BMI) has got to stop.

Are you comfortable where you are? do you feel good? have lots of energy? Quit measuring yourself on the scale and by dress size and for god's sake stop comparing yourself to those anorexic twits in Hollywood.

/rant

ps ... the "you" referenced above referred to no one in particular.

Yeah, I'd say you look heavier than that to me, but it could be the shot angle too. Have you had your body fat % checked? If it's high that it can really impact how you "look" at certain weights. 133 and 23% body is gonna look radically different from someone at 133 and 43% body fat.

For most people, BMI is actually a decent reference point.

It doesn't work for a lot of athletes, body builders, etc.

It is not perfect, but its an OK reference point. I wouldn't render it moot.

I use the BMI measurements loosely as a guideline.....I've always said it was ridiculous since it never took in to consideration some one's muscle mass, just goes by height and weight.......that's just crazy.

I think different people carry weights differently. 133 at 5'6" could look completely different on two people depending on their body fat percentage. Do you know yours? That might be more helpful to keep track of.

Shell you are gorgeous. I think you look like 133lbs. I do think that in the photo, those capri's are "hard to wear". Meaning it's likely they would not flatter most figures unless you were annorhexic. They create optical illusions because of where they cut off your silhouette.

and body image is a sucky thing to contend with.

The first pic is me now, the second was taken in 2005. I weighed 133 then too. Isn't it strange how our bodies take on different shapes each time we lose?

That black sweater is not a straight line, it curves up at the sides, and that makes a world of a difference. It MAY be a wardrobe malfunction!

You look perfect and very healthy. When people are healthy they just shine, and you have the look.

Now, me I'm 155ish on a 5'7 frame and I think I still look very heavy. My arms and abdomen are evil

I agree. I'm 6'2" and have basically an identical BMI to the 5'6" poster. And to be dead honest, I am 5 pounds of fat away from "perfection". OP wants to lose another 8 pounds according to the stats, and I agree with the poster above that those final few pounds will really show a difference. When I get below 175, I can see a little six pack and those side hip muscles that dive into the jeans. And I really like those.

The BMI for me is really quite generous in range. "Normal" is 135 to 190 pounds. I would need hospitilzation at 135, and at 190 I am definitely overweight. But 170 is in the middle, and it's definitely a good weight for me. Used in conjunction with waist measurement (I'm a guy), I think it is a good tool to use. If I can keep a 32" waist at 190, then I know it is muscle that accounts for me being in the upper part of the range.

Most 5'6" women I know weigh more than 133. You look great, so don't obsess about the next few pounds. And photos definitely add 10 pounds (and our self-perception, probably another 10!)
