Induction = nausea....... or is it the raw chicken I ate?
Hello, today I had 1/2 of a turkey burger with a little cheese, 4 cups of coffee, 2 eggs, 4 slices of turkey bacon, and a sugarless jello. That's not a lot of food for me, because I usually eat at least double that by this time in the day. I am severely nauseated right now, like almost ready to run for the toilet in the event that I vomit, and I tested for ketosis, and it says that I am NOT in it (I got knocked out during me TOM... that always happens.... and haven't gotten back in yet). I know that sometimes ketosis can give a bit of a nauseated feeling.
What I'm worried about is that last Friday at a restaurant, I was served raw chicken, and I had already eaten a bit before I realized that it was raw. That night at around 3 am, I felt a little sick, but it was gone by the next day. I just read online that e coli has an incubation period of 2 to 8 days, so I am started to get worried about that.... Could I just be showing symptoms now? Do you think that Induction WITHOUT ketosis can cause nausea, or should I be worried about the foodborne illnesses in the raw poultry? Many thanks!

Please call ER and give them your symptoms and evidence. This could be serious. Poultry is such a carrier. Take care.

I think e.coli shows up mainly as severe, possibly bloody diarrhea. It's staph, one of the more common picnic-type food poisonings (warm mayo, egg salad, chicken salad etc) that can cause horrible nausea and vomiting.
Raw and undercooked chicken is more likely to cause salmonella or campylobacter poisoning. Salmonella can cause nausea and diarrhea. Campylobacter causes diarrhea with fever. Either way, unfortunately, you will know soon. I've never had a "mild" case of food poisoning. You'll be sick as a dog. I sincerely hope that's not the case. ![]() |

Some types you can, Jake. It just depends.
Hamburger is a more likely source of e. coli, which is an intestinal bacterium. |

You can certainly have the induction flu and it can cause you to feel light headed and nauseated. I know you do not want to ruin your induction but I guess you could eat some carbs and see if it goes away. It may save you a trip to the ER?????

Just as a side note. My sister is a nurse and I have freaked out many times thinking my kids have some terrible food poisoning several days after they have eaten the suspect food. She tells me that while it is possible to have delayed onset to food poisoning it is rare and typically symptoms show up quite soon and are pretty violent.

Thanks for the advice everyone...! I've done Induction quite a few times before, and I've never had nausea unless I'm actually IN ketosis, which is why this is making me a little worried. I really don't want to have carbs, so I'm not going to. I just had some water. Maybe I'll try some diet ginger ale.
I know that e. coli is relatively rare in chicken too, but I thought that my symptoms are probably too long after ingesting it for it to be salmonella. Maybe not though? Yuck... Just thinking about biting into that nasty raw chicken is making me feel even worse! ![]() |

When you feel better, report that restaurant to public health. They should be in big trouble for that!

If you can stomach it, make up some chicken bullion. It might calm your stomach. Do you have any sugar free jello?
I think you mentioned TOM. If you're just starting induction, TOM might make your tummy upset. I know that if I don't eat enough carbs, I'll throw up just from TOM. Hope you feel better soon. ![]() |

I agree, the restaurant should be reported to the Health Dept.
It sounds to me as though you have Induction Flu coupled with the *Ickies Thinking About Biting Into Raw Chicken* .My DD would probably work herself into an actual porcelain throne session if she did what you did. She just gets thinking about it and pretty soon..... I hope that's all it is for you. I am a big devotee of ginger in any form for nausea. Give it a try! Ginger tea is the best, IMO. |

What was the dish that these folks couldn't tell that the chicken wasn't cooked?
I hope you feel better soon. Food poisoning is usually fast and furious and often involves projectile puking. Sounds like you have some ickies to get over. Good Luck! |

YOu will generally know within 12-24 hours, unless it's listeriosis. That takes 70 days to incubate. You would only get that from unpasteurized cheese, deli meat, or hot dogs.
I hope you feel better. Ginger root capsules really help me when I have an upset stomach. |
