Down 4.5 lbs. in 4 days after stopping Birth Control Pills...

I knew my birth control pills were the culprit. I couldn't loose with them. So I stopped taking them on Monday and I am down 4.5 lbs since.

The weight loss is wonderful, BUT I desperately need to find a new source of Birth Control Fast!!! I have a 3 month old daughter now and do not want to get pregnant again anytime soon.

Any suggestions from the ladies??? I have never tried anything but the pill and really don't want to, but I would rather be skinny and try something else.

Thanks for all of your help!

My form of birth control was condoms--I say was because I have had all my kiddos (4 in all) and my tubes are now tied. I never was on the pill and never wanted to be on any.

I used to take Yaz and I loved it. My skin was great and it helped me drop some pounds and it does in most women too. I just got off (not to have children) but just so I am not on it forever, you know. I don't think it is good to stay on it too long. Anyways, I need to make an appointment w/my dermatologist ASAP because pimples are already coming back!

I am coming to really believe that synthetic hormones are pure crap and just bad for us. I quit my pill last August and had a Paragard non-hormonal IUD put in, Aug 2007. No problems.

This is a great thread.
My form of BC is absinense. I am getting married next month and wanted to start taking birth control pills to prevent pregnancy the first couple years. But, with all the side effects, etc I'm afraid. My soon2B doesn't want me taking the pill, due to weight gain.

Allie, have you gained any weight after having the IUD put in?

Meekness,

I am not Allie, but my DH didn't want me to have anything in my body that could interfere with it working right either. I am so glad I never went on the pill. Didn't have to worry about gaining weight or any of that nonsense. Good for you on your decision!! Oh and btw I am 38 years old and never used the pill!

Having a baby who insists on sleeping with us seems be a great bc method for me.

My mom has been urging me to get the ring. I don't have enough info on it though.

Thanks Dawn... I am 33 y/o and used the pill for one month back in 1992... I blew up and had major migraines. I couldn't take it and immediately trashed the pill

No the Paragard non hormonal IUD causes no weight gain. I had super heavy TOMs the first few months, and still my TOM comes every 3 weeks alot of the time-- but my TOM issues may be due to thyroid, not sure.

If you do a lcf and google search on Paragard IUD you can find out info, reviews etc... that's what I did before I got it placed.

I got off the pill a few years ago. I started taking the pill when I was 16 and decided that after 10 years it was enough for me. I was gaining weight and suffering from mood swings. I switched to the NuvaRing as my doctor suggested because it has the lowest amount of hormones. It is fabulous and you don’t even have to think about it for 3 weeks of the month. My mood swings went away and the weight came off easier. DH and I got married last September and I just went off all BC this year so we are being extra careful. We are hoping to start a family next year and I wanted to cleanse my body and lose as much weight as possible before then. I will definitely go back to the NuvaRing if and when I need to.

I refuse to take BC pills. It's condoms for us.

I used a diaphragm in the past. It was a little tricky at first, but after getting used to it, it was very easy. No hormones, no side effects. I would definitely use one again.

Were you possibly taking a mini-pill? I say this because I was on the progestin-only pill for a short time and stopped it due to water retention. The morning after I stopped it, 6 lbs were gone. No joke. I didn't believe it so I tried on all my clothes, and sure enough they were a LOT looser.
I use condoms and spermicide. I have never gotten pregnant although I am young but we are very careful. I did have the Paragard IUD, but it became displaced and after 1.5 yrs I had to have it removed. I hear others have had good experiences with it though.

When I went off the pill I ended up looking into NFP (not the rythm method, not the same thing!). If you get a chance to check it out, the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" is a wealth of information and explains it all in detail. No more hormones for me!

I was on Loestrin FE - hated it, and it didn't work for its intended purpose, either (don't need it for BC purposes). Stopped taking it 4-5 months ago, and have been feeling much better since then. I also am just weirded out by the idea of plugging myself full of hormones all the time . . . I don't care how low the dose is

LOVE NFP! I liked the Billings method (you can google it_)

Seems, hard but very easy when you get the hang of it-

Granted, I had an unexpected pregnancy- but that was totally my fault- I thought I couldn't get pregnant once menopause started... YOU TOTALLY CAN!

BTW, I concieved my first son using a condom, my 3rd while taking BCpills! My second son was nly conceived after a year of fertility drugs! Go figure! I am a religious person, so I always chalk it up to God- His will WILL be done, one way or the other!

Good luck- it's scary, I know!

I just ordered this now that I have officially stopped the BC. I cant wait to read it. I am hoping it all works out so I dont have to go back to the NuvaRing evah! I would rather avoid all hormones if possible.
