Anyone buy pizza and just not eat crust?
Hi all - new to this group and nice to find a place to talk about low carb. I've seen a few crustless pizza recipes. I think it would be less work (and I'm into less work) to just buy from my favorite pizza place and not eat the crust. I'm interested in your thoughts.

Sometimes I do but I can really taste the sugar they put in their sauces now and it really seems too sweet. Homemade I know whats exactly in there.

I do that sometimes. Got to Pizza Hut buffet and just scrape off the topping and eat it. They don't really put much sauce on theirs.

It's definitely better than eating the crust. I think some people just have a hard time not eating the crust since it's right there in front of them. But as mentioned there is sugar in their pizza sauce. How your body reacts to it will be a YMMV kind of thing.

That seems like an insane waste of money to me unless you have someone to eat the rest of it. A cheaper and easier way is to just put a little bit of sauce (buy tomato sauce from a can that has no added anything and mix in some dried Italian seasonings and garlic or garlic powder) on a plate. Add toppings you like (mushrooms, pepperoni, whatever). Then put on some cheese. Nuke in the micro.
I have done this and it is pretty tasty. If you want to take one additional step and can handle cheese then you can make a crust out of crispy cheese. Basically you put a mound of shredded cheese (parm or cheddar work well) on a plate lined with parchment paper. Then you micro until that is crispy (1-2 minutes or so). Then you build your pizza on that and micro it until the top cheese is melted. Yummy! |

There is so much sodium in even the toppings, and seriously-- why miss the crust at all?
Here! Make this instead. ![]() |

If it's for yourself only then I agree, there are better and easier alternatives. It could be for the whole family though. I know for a fact that my two girls (1 and 4) would not be too crazy about crustless pizza or cauliflower pizza. So when pizza is desired we'll order from Pizza Hut and if I wish to partake I'll scrape off the topings.

Thanks for the nice comments!
I'm all about enabling healthy eating. And my kids are very picky. Autism, and they eat the crust. I have a don't ask--don't tell policy. |

How does the zucchini crust compare to the cauliflower crust? I tried the cauli crust and my family didn't care for it. I ate it and didn't mind it, but they just didn't go for it.

I have a hard time resisting the crust if it's in front of me (especially if it's from a fav pizza place). I also feel like I'm wasting food and I don't like that. Plus, it really takes quite a few pieces to feel like you've eaten anything if all you are eating is the top. The cauli crust pizza is pretty good, as is the deep dish pizza recipe on linda sue's site. Another thing I have done is to mix cream cheese with some italian spices, top it with low sugar sauce and load up the pizza toppings with whatever you like. Bake it til melty and bubbly and enjoy! The recipe says to dip breadsticks in it (which you could do for company) but if you put enough toppings on it, you can eat it with a fork. (or dip cheese "crackers" in it) Good luck!

Zucchini is VERY mild (cauliflower is more pungent), but you want to make sure to squeeze water from the shredded zucchini to make sure the crust solidifies as it should. I took the zucchini pizza to a friend's house when there was a play date and everyone liked it (they were high-carbers looking to get some more veg in their diets).
The zucchini crust also makes excellent nacho chips, taco bowls, taco shells, enchilada "shells" and tostada crisps. |

![]() For the OP - I will eat pizza toppings if I'm "stuck" someplace and that's what's being served, but because they could be putting all kinds of sugars into the sauce I would never make it a regular part of my WoE. |

That cauliflower pizza looks awesome! I will try it - thanks for posting and thanks for all the other suggestions. Actually whenever we get pizza, I don't really care for the crust anyone, it's the crispy toppings I love. Many years ago, I waitressed at a Pizza Hut and ate pizza every day I was there. I can honestly say I never got tired of pizza!

Pizza hut I do that. A lot of places will make a Low Carb Bowl, I always tell them light sauce. I do not like the sauce too much

When we go somewhere for pizza I only eat the toppings but when I make homemade pizza at home for the family I just make me a pan of toppings only.

i did that once!!!
I wouldn't bring it in the house. I was in a mall doing x-mas shopping. I really needed to eat something, so i went to Sbarro & ordered a slice and put lots of garlic, oregano & pepperoncino(hot pepper flakes) on top. I ate everything except the crust. It was delicious. No-one paid any attention. It was not VERY easy to do. That is why i would not bring it home. In private, my guard is down. but yeah, it is certainly do-able. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

Cleo - i wish i could reach in my monitor and grab a piece of your pizza!!! aaah you're driving me crazy over here!
And to answer the OP, I used to do that a lot in college. I would buy a large buffalo chicken pizza and devour all the toppings by myself. It was gooooooood. I would always gain in water weght though. ![]() |

We have a local pizza place that we order from. We get a small chef salad and an order of hot chicken wings and a pizza.I eat some of it all and feel ok about it. I do not eat the pizza crust. We use to buy from pizza hut. The last few times we ordered I noticed the sauce was so sweet it was sickening. No more pizza hut for me.This place we order from now just uses tomato sauce and some spices. Very good.
