I stick with Farmland. Can get the thick sliced 20 oz on sale for $3.99 - best texture I've ever had. I swear I ate half a pound a day on induction but now fry some with eggs twice a week on my days off.

I only buy the Oscar mayer stuff when it is on sale (reg price at my store is 6.99) buy one get one. I haven't even looked for the nitrate free yet but I am assuming too expensive. We don't have a whole Foods or Trader Joes here.

I found nitrate free bacon in Krogers. It was plum rose brand. Good stuff but it is a tad expensive. I buy it when it's on sale.

My favorite part of the bacon is the fat it tastes sweet to me. I just wanted to share.

You gotta remember it's already cooked and shrunk down. They're thin, buy not too small.

I buy Gwaltney no sugar added bacon from Food Lion and Walmart, I tried Oscar Meyer natural bacon uncured and it taste funny to me.

I love my bacon with more fat then meat I can't stand chewy tough bacon.

Thanks, Hummingbird for the TJ's tip - I go there once or twice a month.
Did not know there was nitrate/'trite free bacon.

I think there is something to the 'processed meats and upped % for pancreatic cancer' thingy.
A good (elderly) bud passed horribly from it and he ate kielbasa, bologna, bacon, etc...ofetn
So, I have not had bacon in along while... high sodium reason also.
But for a treat I will get it - love it well done but still flexy.

Thanks for the thread Q. too, Sarah.

I only like the bacon fat, not the bacon. I wish there was some place you could just buy bacon fat, because I love to cook stuff in it. Eggs, veggies - everything! But eating bacon makes me . Weird.

I haven't tried the applewood smoked uncured bacon at TJ's yet. It's a tad pricier than the regular uncured bacon. Maybe I'll splurge next week.

Sarah
My mom taught me to inspect the back of the package. Too much fat will stay in the pan. So I go for something with a bit more meat--not that I object to the fat AT ALL, mind you! I just want it not to melt away to nothing. And I *do* like the fatty gristle parts. I don't want big slabs of fat with no gristle, though. (I hope this makes sense).

I like TJ's; but I'm going to check Costco to see if they have a better deal, as we're all upping our intake. We had a nearly family-wide calorie deficit we're trying to correct.
