The Light at the end of the Tunnel

Due to rising oil prices and electricity costs, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Thank goodness I was able to pay the bill & get the light turned back on!!

As many well know, I started eating to my BMR not that long ago with an emphasis of being in a calorie deficit to keep losing fat-which equals out to about body weight x 12 so that's the formula I follow now to be sure I am in a calorie deficit while losing body fat.

My ah-ha moment came as I was doing this. I always struggled with raising my carbs because once I started raising them-when I was still in weight loss mode-I'd either gain or get stuck. I'd neither lose weight nor inches for weeks at a time. I just couldn't figure it out. For many years, I couldn't figure out why I always struggled in this area-that's why I put myself in maintenance because I was tired of trying to lose & figured-as long as I could maintain-just forget trying to raise my carbs anymore. I'd just be happy with where I was. And so I entered maintenance mode.

And then you know what clicked? Well, if I was going to raise my carbs-then, of course-that would mean raising calories as well. (try adding in nuts & there you go-probably an extra 170 calories on top of what you are already eating) So instead of raising carbs & calories, I would have to back down on my calories so I would still be in a deficit. So that is what I am doing now. I am raising my carbs-I guess you could put me in pre-maintenance mode now for this reason-but lowering my calories based on my body weight x 12.

I used to be someone who didn't like variety but I am starting to discover that I prefer variety in my eating choices now-more than meat, eggs, veggies & oils. I still would like to eat nuts, fruits, sweet potatoes & legumes.
So that was one other reason I decided to do this-that way, I can have more variety in my eating. I don't know that I'll ever be able to get away with eating 100 g of carbs but I know that I'll be able to eat more than 30 g & neither lose nor gain weight or inches.

As soon as I'm at 27 inches, then I'll put myself back in maintenance mode-no matter what the scale says.

Some people can get away with adding in carbs & raising their calories at the same time. I'm not one of those who can. And I'm glad to finally have recognized this fact about me. What an eye opener!!
