Big Breakfast Helps Dieters Lose Weight

Talk about the slant this researcher had on what constitutes a low carb diet.
A cup of milk (which is pretty high carb last time I checked) and breakfast only 290 calories total. Plus 2 tsps of butter. WTH. Give me a break.

The low carb group only ate around 1085 calories a day. Can you say crash diet.

It is interesting that both diets included a cup of milk for breakfast. Last time I checked unless you are an infant who is nursing, milk is not a dietary requirement. Nothing like a little lactase to get your insulin up and running. Where's the big glass of orange juice that everyone is also supposed to consume for breakfast?

I would feel overloaded on 610 calories in one sitting. Way too much!!

My breakfast is usually around 440 calories & I'm quite satisfied for several hours. Plus I still eat less-without having to eat 610 calories at breakfast.

They are always out trying to prove that people on low carb will regain their weight. Well, if you go off any plan that works for you-whether it be low carb, low fat, WW, etc.-of course, you will regain your weight. (whether you eat a big breakfast or not)

But stick to the plan that works for you-and it's highly unlikely that you will regain weight. Too many success stories on this board prove to me that you can lose on low carb and keep it off for many, many, many, many years.

I posted about this study a few days ago, because it just ticked me off so much.

More low carb bashing

What an idiotic, unscientific piece of biased rubbish that study is. Jimmy Moore has blogged about it on Livin' La Vida Low Carb too.

Ooh look, from that article Dee posted:
Quote:
"One hundred thirty grams of carbohydrate are the minimum for our brain to keep working," she says, citing guidelines from the National Academy of Sciences.
Funny, I eat 100 fewer carbs than that a day and my brain appears to be working. I'd have noticed if it wasn't, wouldn't I?

How can people make statements like this when there are people walking around with functioning brains who are eating way fewer carbs than that every day? Do they think we're lying or something? It's like taking that old bit of lore about bees theoretically not being able to fly, and insisting that therefore any actual flying bees one encounters are figments of your imagination.

Our bodies contain roughly:

72% water
16% fat (for someone healthy)
11% protein
1% carbohydrates

That tells me that we can live on water, fat & protein to survive & it is not really necessary to have carbohydrates (though there are people out there who feel better on more carbs than less-I feel better on 60 g than I do on 20 g). Fat is what keeps the brain working-not carbohydrates.

I do have to chime in a say that I agree with the whole eating a big breakfast to help weight loss theory though. I've been eating dinner size breakfasts these days and small dinners and the weight has really started to come off.

It makes sense, but for me, to sit all al one and eat a big breakfast is something i will need to practice. I am just so satisfied with my coffee and even sometimes an oopsie with butter and sf jam on it. I will try

What's that old saying about breakfast like a king, lunch like a lord and dine like a peasant? I tried that a couple of times, but I do better just having 3 evenly sized meals.

I agree that for many people a decent sized breakfast is good for weight loss (in my other post about this I called that "Latest News from the Department of Stuff we Already Knew.") Even if it's only because it keeps them from snacking in the morning.

I always have a good breakfast, which tends to be higher in fat and protein and my least carby meal of the day. It keeps me happy till lunchtime.

I often wonder about people consuming a coffee with heavy cream and then calling it breakfast!

I'm trying to see if I can go caffeine free without injuring someone!
