I just frosted a cake

Wow. At first, that was really tough to do. But my roommate asked me to frost a cake for his friend. I was really tempted to at least lick the spatula. Especially since this is my free weekend. But then I read the ingredients on the can of frosting and saw high fructose corn syrup, and I could just hear Fawn yelling at me to put that spatula down.

It's just AWFUL how many things have high fructose corn syrup in them. Even the ketchup in the fridge. But that's fine. I like homemade ketchup much better. Thanks for the recipe, LindaSue

That is what usually cures me (seeing HFCS on the label).

And yeah, it is in everything. Even hot dog buns! I tried to find some without...and nope I couldn't!

Girl,

My daughter (she's 10) has taken on a new job. Baking for a good friends AA group. He pays her $5.00 above and beyond the price of ingredients. I cut the LUSCIOUS BURNT Chocolatey edges off the brownies she made. She went w/her Dad 2nite...I sorta had to. HELL is NOT licking your fingers. BUT I DID IT!!

Oh god. Brownies? I'm glad I only had to frost a cake. I don't think I could resist brownies.

I understand completely, I used to reallly love to bake but have not since beginning in April.. my brother and family are here so I thought it would just be easier if I bought a mix. Made Ghiradelli Brownies with Walnuts. It almost killed me. But, I didnt touch a crumb. (instead I had some CO, Cream Cheese, Vanilla, Stevia, crushed almonds in a baggie in the freezer for me.. )

Great job! It feels so great to be strong and not even tempted by that stuff. I baked my husband some chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies tonite and didn't even want any...well, they would have been yum, I'm sure, but not worth ruining my 25 days cheat free since re-inducting.

Willpower CAN be rewarding! :

Everything in my house is homemade and I have a 5 year old, so I do a bit of baking. It gets easier, he loves chocolate and I hate it, so that makes it easier. The other day I made funnel cake for dessert, not that was a bit tempting. Easter candy was also a bit tempting, I love jelly beans.

I have to give you tons of credit mark... I have been known to even attack someone for their icing spatula lmao..
its hard for me to even keep icing in the house or cake mix...
I think I could sit and eat an entire box of cake mix un baked but mixed, and the icing right after it lolol
So dangerous.. but thats not how I got fat, I knew yrs ago not to keep the stuff around..
Im very proud of you

Well, I'm happy to say that that cake has now been devoured by my roommates and not even crumbs were left. So I didn't have to test my willpower for TOO long. Besides, I got to go out for really yummy sushi on the last day of my free weekend. I enjoyed the unagi so much more than I ever would have enjoyed that high-fructose-corn-syrup-laden frosting.

Hi Foxy. I've found that what works for me is a cycle of 1 week of induction (20g of carbs a day) followed by three weeks of 40g-80g of carbs a day, followed by a free weekend (friday at 6pm - Sunday 10pm) where I allow myself to have whatever I want. Then it's back to the 1 week of induction, etc.

I still try to practice common sense on my free weekend, like no cake frosting! But I don't restrict myself too much. I do try to follow the rules of only eating when I'm hungry, and stop eating before I feel full. It seems to work for me, and keeps me from stalling.

So you will go back and eat illegal foods like chips or cookies? OMG, that scares me and I have only been in induction for 6 days. I am afraid to eat antyhing except eggs, bacon, shredded cheddar, butter, and meat right now because I am afraid of messing it all up. It sounds wonderful if I could do the free weekend one day but I think that will be a WAYS off!

Well, no. Like I said, I practice common sense on my free weekend. I still don't eat things that I think are poisonous to me. But I eat whole grain bread, I allow myself pasta, I eat sushi, stuff like that. I sometimes even have ice cream, if I can find any without HFCS. I don't eat junk on my free weekend. Just really good stuff that I will be allowing myself to have once I'm on maintenance. Okay, maybe a little junk. Like a bite of cheesecake.

Congrats on resisting frosting! The 2g transfat per serving of canned frosting is what scares me the most. Won't even consider going off plan with the stuff you buy in stores. You'd think they'd come up with a more natural frosting that's a teeny bit less heart attack inducing by now!
