The benefits of lemons

I was wondering if anyone could explain to me the benefit of adding lemon to water ... what impact does this have?
Are lemons allowable on induction (atkins)? Is it true that it will help to relieve constipation? I would LOVE to get some feedback on this one and learn from the masters...

They are one of the most alkaline foods, very helpful if you are eating a lot of meat which is acidic. They also help with calcium absorption. I drink fresh squeezed stevia lemonade daily, love it!

I think I'm going ot add in some lemon...
Is it true that if you drink it with hot hot water that it is a good constipation reliever? If so, how much lemon does one need to use AND how long does it take?

It's supposed to help the nutrients in green tea be assimilated to a greater degree by your body.

Wow, thanks for the info, Melle! I take my AM supplements w/ a tall glass of warm water flavored w/ 2 Tbsp of organic lemon juice (from my tree) ~ it just feels like a healthy thing to do! Now I have proof!

I have the same problem I've tried EVERYTHING under the sun.

Fawn reccomended a liquid magnesim citrate. So I got PG's Natural Calm (Raspberry Lemon) because I'd heard so many others raving about it. You drink it like hot tea before bedtime. It's working for me.

Okay -- so here is what I did last night and it worked like a charm (for constipation -- lovely topic, I know).

I poured a hot-hot glass of water (just from the tap) added some fresh squeeze lemon juice (about a 1cm slice) and chugged it ... WELLL -- within an hour or so things started moving and vwalla!!!! Fixed ... I will remember this the next time I have a trouble...

Vit.C is such a busy vitamin that it's always good to have a source of it, particularly a fresh source. I'm expecting a free sample of some lemony stuff that I hope will help me have lemon more easily available to me.

Don't overlook what a startling effect lemon has when squeezed fresh on veg or meat dishes at the table. It's amazing. Also fragrant. Love lemons!

Only thing is juice is hard on diabetics had to stop cause it kept my sugars up there Dr. Bernstein does not recommend for diabetics

Not sure this applies to lemon juice on vegies. Surely it applies to drinking fruit juice. I'd guess that a bit of lemon or lime to flavor your water or to perk up vegies or any food is not a problem for anyone.

However, I am not a doctor nor a diabetic. Do ask your physician about this.

i've been chugging the heck out of my lemonade the last 3 days (stevia & lemons) found out the nustevia i had had Maltodextrin which apparently is bad? so i got some sweetleaf today..but anyways..does anyone know of the carb count in lemons? or is it even something to worry about?

According to The Calorie King book, 1 medium lemon (3 oz.) = 8 carbs; 1 lemon wedge (1 oz.) = 1.5 carbs

Limes - 1 medium (2" diameter), 2.4 oz. = 7

To put it simply, lemon makes plain water more palatable. Add ice and it's twice as nice!

The citric acid (vitamin C) in lemon water also helps your body absorb more iron from food. Especially leafy greens.
