Actually what you want to be concerned with IS going to the bathroom.

IMO, my caution with these is they could possibly ??? form an obstruction in the bowel if you don't take adequate liquid.

2 - 4 pills, nuh uh, not yet! I'm being careful.

Hi guys!

Just got back from a retreat for cancer survivors. I wasn't able to take the PGX during my stay, but I'm back on it tomorrow.

I am taking the PGX DAILY 750 mg.

I started off slow, but went to 2 pills before each meal and my hunger was definitely lessened. The first day I had some gas a little loose stools, but nothing uncomfortable at all. The next day I was fine. No gastric distress.

The next day I increased the dosage to 3 ( as per the bottle instructions) and felt "stopped up." I knew it was too much fiber for me, so I backed way off and let my body adjust. Before I left for retreat, I was back to one 750 mg pill in between lunch and supper and that seemed to be perfect for me as I am not hungry in the mornings.

It really is a product that works but we have to be careful to drink enough liquid so as not to cause a stoppage of bowel elimination.

Personally, I am VERY happy with it and it has been helping me.

I'll post the ingredients in answer to someone's questions.

WOW they are really using everything they can
Sodium Alginate is made from brown alge and is know at this time to be a compound that will not only expand and form a gel in the gut but also absorb enzymes and hold them. Some of the ones it holds are used to metabolise fats, proteins and sucrose in digestion no wonder this stuff helps weight loss and blood glucose levels
there is even a Alginate Diet now on the market.

Sorry for my ignorance but is that a bad thing or a good thing?
It sounds powerful. I wonder why I can't even tell I took any.

Actually, you take the PGX for hunger reduction. You follow your normal eating plan, but you end up eating LESS because you're less hungry. It's just that simple.

so do you eat it for life to control hunger then?

tomswife

if it absorbed all the enzymes you'd die of starvation but only some will just make some food not get digested to absorb size for the transfer to the blood stream. since it is only 750 mg total of all the ingredients it should be a good thing.

I don't plan on using it for life, no.
As my tummy shrinks and I learn to be satisfied with less, I will do this on my own. Right now I need it to feel full, but I don't expect I'll need it for life.

If you read in the earlier pages of this thread, you'll see the research and the statements of Dr. Murray about why PGX does not absorb minerals. And why taking this product long-term is very SAFE, based on studies and research.

So, you don't need to worry about PGX absorbing minerals.

Actually those compounds I listed are not minerals. They are digestic enzymes and actually that compound in PGX does absorb those enzymes. that is one of the reasons it is being touted as a diet aide and sold on other weight loss sites.

The PGX slows gastric emptying and thus keeps blood glucose more stable.
The mixture of fibers work together to accomplish gelling to make one feel more full and slowing down digestion to keep the person full.

MG I'm not saying it is a bad thing. I just wanted to know how it works so I checked out the ingredients you posted and checked the peer reviewed medical studies that company is bases their claims on to see how it works

it is basical a capsul form of the old fiber biscuits diet that used to be eat them 30 min before a meal to make you feel fuller and not eat as much

Oh no! I guess I'm a thread killer Just checking in to see how those who've tried the PGX are doing. I took 1 before each meal the first day I got them and nothing (no hunger reduction, no gas) the next day I took two before breakfast and lunch and that seemed to help, but with a bit of gas. No stoppage problems so I guess I am getting in enough water. Not feeling "full" like some of you are reporting but it does seem to help a bit. Wonder if I should go to 3 before each meal???

Hey Jenny,

I've been dealing with nausea lately (from CFIDS) so I have not been taking the PGX.

BUT, the bottle says the "normal" dosage to work up to is 3-6 before each meal.

Here's the instructions:

Quote:
Suggested Usage: Start with 1-2 softgels per meal and SLOWLY build up to the *recommended dose of 3-6 softgels per meal*.(emphasis mine)

For best results take PGX Daily softgels before meals with a glass of water (8 ounces) or as directed by a health professional.
So yeah, for me, the hunger stopped at much less than the recommended dosage, but if it doesn't for you, follow the dosing instructions and slowly move up to 3-6 before each meal. I would only add one softgel at a time and give it time to work - a couple of days for sure!

Please let us know how you're doing!!

Yep, that's what I've had to do is stop, go back to the smallest and work up. It doesn't stop the hunger but it does help....some days.
