By granules are you meaning to sprinkle on the food? I cannot swallow pills so would love it if you can sprinkle it or mix it into your food.

Yes Koo,

Hi Linda,

I hope it works for you!! I'm just like you, trying it to see if it works. So far, very good! I hope it continues!
You're right, it's not cheap, so I'm hoping it works well.

And thank you for your kind words on my picture.

Day Two: No gastric distress at all.

2 PGX with my whey protein shake
FULL FULL FULL!

Got a little hungry about 5 hours later...
3 PGX
water
Small bowl of:
Wild salmon salad with organic salad and organic broccoli slaw
organic salsa and sour cream
FULL FULL FULL!!

Got a little hungry about 5 1/2 hours later, but not enough to eat a big meal, so I had what I ate earlier. Small bowl. Plus 1 TB Nutiva organic coconut oil, unsweetened cocoa and chocolate raspberry stevia.
I am STUFFED! Sipping water before bed.

I definitely have seen at least a 50% reduction in my appetite from the first dose.

The first day, I had mildly loose stools.
Today, no problem at all.

Day Two: A HUGE success, eating much less food and staying full!

Interesting information on PGX! It actually contains coconut oil! WOW, great combination!

Here's a cool article:

PGX Daily will change your life
by Krista Marwick, APP
Jan 23, 2008

A new product has hit health food store shelves with a whole lot of science behind it to help you lose those stubborn pounds and balance your blood sugar too. This new product is called PGX Daily, a unique blend of triglycerides and naturally occurring, water soluble polysaccharides (dietary fibres) that have the incredible property of being able to expand several hundred times its original size in the presence of a liquid.

After years of intensive clinical and laboratory research at the University of Toronto, in collaboration with the Canadian Center for Functional Medicine, PGX Daily has been deemed to be as effective as stomach stapling in reducing weight in obese patients.

It also has shown great results in balancing blood sugar by reducing the glycemic index of meals by up to 50 per cent. Taken with a meal, this little capsule could be your best friend by keeping you feeling fuller longer and maintaining your blood sugar levels (important for diabetics) so you don’t crash and binge. It has a healthy effect on cholesterol and triglyceride levels too.

Blended with medium chain triglycerides derived from coconut oil, it also has thermogenic properties to get things moving and provide energy. Whether you struggle with those last 10 pounds or have more to lose, using PGX is safe, effective and will help you reach your goals

So if you find you don’t have the willpower to stick to a low-calorie diet, or feel too fatigued to start exercising and are plagued by uncontrollable food cravings, don’t beat yourself up. Start the new year off right with a little help from PGX Daily. Get off the blood sugar roller coaster and find your energy again; it could just change your life.

Here's my take which is neither substantiated nor certified but here goes!

If you need assistance in the form of fiber for over eating purposes go for it. The only red flag I would see in a product such as this:

1. Not for those with leaky gut, IBS or other stomach/intestinal issue.
2. Definitely not for the WLS patient
3. Over consumption of fiber grabs essential vitamins and minerals prior to absorption

Michael Murray is a highly resepected naturopath in his field and while he and I disagree on the issue of saturated fat, he is top notch in my book.

Other than the above, it seems to be a safe supplement for those who may have a tendency to over eat. I wouldn't count on it for a life time but wouldn't hesitate to use it as long as i knew what the source was. I'm sorry, did that get discussed?
well....none for me IBS is the devil

you know this diet is NOT lo carb and basically his point is to change your metabolism by a lo fat lo glycemic diet..His only recommendation for breakfast is slim styles shakes and they have 15gms of carbs and 10gms of sugar per shake..So I wonder if just the pgx will work with a lo carb diet????? Plus they cost a like $25 a can is this just a money making thing? This morning I had 2 capsules a protein shake and a small amount of fat free Greek yogurt with my medications..to early to tell if i won't be hungry

Hi Mountain Girl (your new pic is absolutely beautiful, by the way!)...in answer to your question I realize there are several different formulations out there. I bought the WellBetX PGX with Mulberry fiber capsules by Natural Factors. They were the only type of PGX available at my health food store. Mulberry is added to give good blood sugar control, and since I definitely have blood sugar issues, I didn't mind the addition of mulberry at all.

I take 2 capsules with a full glass of water before each meal. According to the label, 2 capsules contain 1000 mg. PGS Proprietary Blend fiber. If at some point I need to up the dosage I will, but for now it's working.

I combine this with the low carb eating plan I have in my Life Without Bread book. I've been on so many low carb plans it spins my head around, but this one is liveable and very flexible while still being low carb, and I keep going back to it, so it's the one for me.

I know someone posted that supplements come and go and I know there are a lot of gimmicks out there. I truly do not believe this fiber is a gimmick. There is a lot of research behind it, and I no longer feel any compulsions to overeat. I might add that I truly believe my low carb diet is 50% of the story, but even on low carb, I still overate a lot. Not anymore.

A funny story is that my husband stopped taking them - he told me he didn't want them anymore. When I asked why, he said he felt so full at lunch after taking them that he couldn't finish his lunch! I rolled my eyes and told him "that's the point!" ...I thought that was too funny. Men!!!!

fawn, if you read the book, this particular fiber blend does not deplete vitamins/minerals. That's why I really like it.

Hi AIM,
If you read the long post direct from Dr. Murray's book it will answer both these questions.

Also, if you google Dr. Michael T. Murray, he has some excellent natural recommendations for IBS.

HIYA!

I'm not following another diet, I'm happy with my LC plan.
I am getting the book because it has valuable information and techniques.

I am taking the PGX daily caps (750 mg per capsule) with my regular LC diet and so far, it's working great!

Joycelyn,

Thank you for the compliment.

THANK YOU for your post!! What great information since you've been taking it longer than I have! I appreciate the feedback so much!

I am a Type 2 diabetic and I see that Dr. Lyon and Murray have tested this especially for insulin-resistant and diabetic patients with great success!

I am SO thrilled that it's working for you! Please keep me posted on your progress. You can post in this thread if you like. I'd love to keep tabs with how it's working for you.

How

Awesome!! I am LCing as well while using the PGX. LC is the way of life for me and I'm not interested in changing it! But, like you, I have been eating too much LC! So, this PGX which makes me fuller faster, keeps me from overeating on LC.

WHOOO HOOO! That's what I'm looking for. I'm a binger, my whole life. Even on good foods. When the hunger hits, that's it. This is the main result I wanted to see from PGX, stopping that "gotta eat, eat NOW!" feeling and then not being able to control how much I eat. Of course, I have to watch my blood glucose because that happens when I go too long without eating and my glucose drops.

But this PGX is supposed to help keep my glucose more stable by slowing down gastric emptying. Their research on diabetics is what convinced me I was going to try this.

My husband had some GI distress (he has IBS) on the first day, so he's not too keen on trying it a second day, but he's watching me and might try it again at a lower dose and work up.

I'm encouraged that it seems to be a very benign yet effective product.

I will be thrilled if they work for me. Down 1.5 lbs from yesterday (water weight). I didn't take any for breakfast, that's not when I overeat. I had 2 before lunch w/o any difference, I'll take 3 with supper. Gonna have mexicale beef and cabbage casserole tonight.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

If PGX was really such a miracle product that would end hunger forever, it would be all over the media: it would be on the cover of Newsweek, the Wallstreet Journal, the 6:00 news, etc. etc. How come it isn't?

As far as it being "natural", we all know that "natural" does not mean safe.

Kelly, I don't think the fiber is a miracle product; it's just one tool of many that is helping me.

Also, I disagree that if it really worked it would be all over the news. Those of us on this board all know how amazing low carb diets are; they've helped my health problems so much it would take too long to discuss them in this thread. Yet even in this day and age all that makes the front pages is the wonders of low fat dieting.

Heck, even now in 2008 Heinz had to change the title of my beloved "1 Carb Catsup" to "Reduced Sugar Catsup." G-d forbid they should use the dreaded C word.

I am totally convinced that what we read in the news sometimes has more to do with politics and political correctness than the truth. I don't know; just my opinion.

You know, I really wonder why people feel the need to do this.
Please, get all the information before you attack it. Please read the studies.

The "End Hunger Forever" is the book and hunger-busting tools and techniques of Dr. Michael T. Murray and Dr. Lyon. PGX is ONE of those tools mentioned in the book.

And no one said PGX was a "miracle" product, it is FIBER. And fiber is good.
