Fresh Eggs! Yum!

As I have said before, I live in the middle of nowhere with cows & chickens living next door. Well guess what? Those chickens lay wonderful eggs! The yolks are orange! I have never tasted anything so delicious in my life! The farmer's wife said she will sell me all I can eat! I am so thrilled! Talk about free range! Talk about fresh! Talk about yummo!
If you can find eggs like this, I suggest you run and get some today.

I'm in the country too...and buy eggs and chickens around the corner. They are NOT 'free range' though...cuz the hens are in a coop.

You are so right! We buy local, free range eggs when we visit Vermont, and those are THE BEST! Nothing in the supermarket compares, including the organic, free range eggs I buy there. They are very good, but nothing like local, free range eggs.

I know the chickens are actually free range because when I drive by, I have to wait while a couple chickens cross the road. lol

LOL...yeah...we live a little too close to a main highway for my neighbor to let his all out. And what's weird is that less than ten miles away, there is a HUGE chicken processing 'factory'...go figure!!

We've also got a local neighbor with goats...and he makes goat cheese and we buy goat's milk there. I really don't care for living 'this far out of town'...but it DOES have it's advantages.

Isn't it just grand Micki?
My neighbor has chickens and the eggs are fabulous!
I just bought into a cow share program for my raw milk. Looking forward to it! In fact, I'm friends with the farmer and he's invited us to a wine/cheese sampling at his home and to meet "Bella" my new Jersey share cow!
they make their own organic wine as well as the cheese!
I'll take pictures!

LMAO!!!

My MIL tries to give me free farm eggs, I will not eat them they are fed with cheap chicken feed from the UFA and lord knows what else.

The egg yolks are so pale, I can't eat them.

I MUST have dark yellow yolks even if I have to buy the grocery store omega 3 eggs LOL

I use to buy omega 3 eggs until I read not to buy them. I felt as thought I could get better quality omega 3's in the form of DHA from fish and my ALA from plant sources. Eating omega 3 enriched eggs is like eating vitamin fortified cereal and bread in my opinion.

Here is what Dr. Mercola says about omega 3 enriched products:
Beware of Misleading Omega-3 Claims - Articles

and here: Egg Producers Deceive Consumers With Bogus Omega-3 Claims

He states: "The real issue with omega-3 in eggs is that they typically are not high in DHA. You have to read the label VERY carefully. Most commonly the chickens are fed plant based omega-3 fats, like flax so they are high in ALA.

Nothing wrong with this, but the animal based omega-3 fats, DHA and EPA, are far more useful to you. Some farmers do actually feed their chickens fish sources of omega-3 and do have higher EPA and DHA levels. However, if they only use DHA from algae sources, this will not be as good because it is unbalanced.

So nothing is wrong at all with the omega-3 eggs, just make sure that you examine precisely what omega-3 fat is in the egg and how it got there."

I just wanted to let you know what I read so that you don't spend twice as much on omega 3 enriched eggs when a regular range free egg is actually more healthy.

Mine are fish-based, that is why I don't really care for them but buy them in a pinch (we do not have a large selection where I live)

The fish-based ones taste fishy when hard boiled.

I am lucky that I live in a state that allows the sale of raw milk. I just pick it up at the healthfood store on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

Can I come to the wine & cheese party? That sounds like fun.

Good for you!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE getting my fresh eggs from a lady 4 miles down the road. They taste & look sooo much better than anything from the grocery. In fact today, as I was picking up my eggs...she mentioned my timing was good cos she & her dh were just about to go out to the bay (I live in Pensacola, Fl) with their 75 foot shrimp boat so now I am also gonna get shrimp FRESH OFF THE BOAT yummo !!!!!!!! Fresh eggs, fresh shrimp...now I need a hormone free cow & I will be set She also has goats but as far as I know...nothing about goats sounds appealing to me.

I get eggs at the local Farmer's Market - 2 flats of 20 each every week! And it's just DH and me!

These are Jumbo eggs, brown, and some are SO HUGE I can't shut the lid on the jumbo egg cartons I transfer them into once they are home. Not complaining though.

On the rare occasion I have to buy them elsewhere, they look PUNY by comparison!

I live in the middle of nowheres too! All along the road there are signs posted with farmers selling their fresh eggs. I always thought they'd be gross-- but if you say so, I must try them then!!
