Day 10: Egg Creme Experiment (long)
For the last 10 days, I have made Egg Cremes a daily part of my way of eating. I am pleased to say that I am 10.5 lbs down from last Monday.
I have been low carbing for years, but I always have difficulty maintaining and 'staying on the wagon. Last January to May I lost 60 lbs. I maintained pretty well over the Summer, but then fall and winter I gained 30 of it back. I had been back 'on' for 6 weeks and had only dropped about 2 lbs and was very discouraged, so after seeing the Egg Creme recipe posted I decided to make some changes and stick to them religiously for 30 days. After the 30 days to see what happened. I am pleased to say that after only 10 days I am nicely established in a very easy routine that I think for me will be easily sustainable long term. First off, for those of you who don't know what the Egg Creme is, do a LCF search and you'll find a handful of threads with different versions and different ways people use them. My version: This makes a 20 ounce shake. I had been making them in my magic bullet, but it 'bit the dust' over the weekend, more on that later. 3 eggs 1 - 2 ounces of heavy cream splash of davinci's syrup (currently white chocolate) 1 packet of stevia chilled coffee (currently gheredelli white chocolate almond) Blend until frothy I prefer my shakes iced, so I keep everything chilled and sometimes throw in a few cubes of ice. Tastes delicious. Not quite as thick as a milkshake, but close. These taste great! Ready in less than 2 minutes from start to finish. When my bullet broke, I experimented with making a large batch in a 1/2 gallon pitcher with my stick blender. Same results and the shakes store nicely in the fridge. I have a Pampered Chef pitcher with the 'plunger' thing in the lid so I just froth it up and pour. I started drinking a shake for breakfast every day on my way to work. I have a 30 minute commute and I take that time to really enjoy my 'breakfast'. I always pack a 2nd shake for lunch, but the first is so filling I generally don't need it as I'm not hungry. I like to keep one 'just in case' and have had a shake for lunch maybe 3 times. So my plan so far is pretty slimfastesque. The problems I had with slimfast or other liquid diets in the past is I never got full. I was always ravenous. With the Egg Creme I have no hunger at all. Now on to dinner. I am generally hungry by dinner (but not starving) and have been having a nice evening meal. I don't have huge portions, but I don't skimp either. I make sure my dinner is high in protein and fat, but have also been incorporating a few more carbs than induction levels allow. A few evenings I had a serving of Buffalo Chicken Dip with toasted Toyouan low carb pita chips and some baby carrots with Ranch dressing. A few evenings I've gone to the bar and had 5-6 hot wings and a large cobb salad with chicken, egg, bacon, blue cheese and ranch. Last night I had a good serving of Sweet Potato chips and 2 slices of the chilled veggie oopsie pizza (see the recipe room!). I've also had a carb smart ice cream bar 2 evenings. I am never hungry, I don't have any cravings, and I'm completely satisfied with my dinner. I have also started walking on the beach 2 miles every other day for the last week. I have more energy, I sleep better, and I wake up more rested. I hope to be able to make walking a sustainable part of my 'routine' as well. To anyone who has stuck around to read this epic post, I'm not saying that the Egg Creme's are a 'magic pill', and I'm not attributing my loss solely to them, but I know it has been a contributing factor. I intend to post again in another 10 days with an update. The most important thing to me has been that I've found something satisfying and sustainable that is giving me great results and I wanted to share!

I may give this a try...
I am awful about eating breakfast during the week so having a shake would be convenient. I could drink it on the ride to work - sweet!!! Keep posting - I would love to hear how you are doing.

I am so happy for you. I really want to try the egg cream but still nervous about the raw egg. I will have to get over it and try it. I know it's all in my head.
I am glad you found something that is working. I found I need a few more carbs than induction level and am losing fairly well. |

You know, as a young girl, we often had egg nog in my house--8oz milk, 1 egg, splash of vanilla. Thanks for the LC way to relive that.
I have been having trouble with breakfast only because I'm out in a hurry. I suppose I can make the coffee the night before and blend before I leave and drink on the way to the gym. Will give it a shot. Would love to report similar loss! |

I'm gonna have to try this. And if you want it thicker, try blending in a half teaspoon or so of Thicken Thin Not/Starch or Not/Sugar - I always add that to my protein shakes and it makes it just like a milkshake IMHO! |

Oh, I not only felt ill, but let's just say that the egg cream came back up for a visit. I know it was all mental. I really really wanted to drink these since I LOVE coffee and I LOVE cream. Oh well, maybe if I buy pasteurized eggs, my mind will agree.

For those that can't stand raw shell eggs, you can use Eggbeaters or any egg substitute raw also. It is pastuerized and safe to have uncooked. And you don't have to see any raw slimy whites.

Kelly,
Thank you for sharing this. After the last thread on the Egg Creams I tried them for a few days and really liked them too. For those of you worried about the raw eggs, you really cannot tell they are in there at all! And the flavor is great - kind of like a weak egg nog. My only issue was that the coffee turned the whole thing lukewarm. So I like your idea of using chilled coffee and turning it into an iced coffee drink. Heck, I throw in the whole kitche sink including my coconut oil for the day and flaxmeal. That way I get even more nutrition out of them. Of course, I really don't mind grunges at the bottom of my glass - I really like the taste and texture of flaxmeal - add it to a lot of drinks. Kelly, keep us posted on whether this continues to work for you. ![]() Kaye

Kelly,
How awesome for you!! ![]() I started drinking Egg Cream Cappuccinos over the summer. My version did not include any cream, just hot water (I have always had them hot). However, this winter I started adding cream and CO to it, when I would have it on the weekend. So delicious! I would have them every day in the summer, sometimes twice. I think the reason I stopped having them all the time is that school started back up and I didn't want to be dragging out the blender and warming it up in the microwave. Bleah! Too high maintenance for work. But I like the idea of having them chilled, especially for portability's sake. I may start having these again. And ITA, they are SO filling, they keep you satisfied for hours. For anyone trying to watch their cream/fat intake, here's a link to my egg cream capp recipe. . .scroll down to post #11: Wasted my carbs allowance on coffee Keep us posted on your progress. . .this is so exciting!

Can you just use egg yolks? For some reason I don't mind raw egg yolks in a shake, (I buy the good ones), but I can't stomach the whites raw.

Kels- that's great! I am so proud of you! I lost my mojo when we moved and need to find it again soon
I may give the egg cremes a try, I've never been much of a big breakfast eater, and, like you, when I find something that works, I stick to it.When I lost a lot of weight a couple of years ago my daily menu went: B: 3 cheesey eggs, 2 sausage patties, coffee L: 2 cheeseburger patties and a side salad D: lean protein and veggie I was also going to the gym for cardio every night after work. I know what I need to do, I just NEED to DO IT! Talk to you soon! ![]()

Great job on the 10.5 lbs! I was drinking the egg cream a couple days in a row last week and noticed I was down a little bit. However for some reason i stopped drinking them. Then yesterday I remembered and made one to drink on the way to work. I am getting one ready for today now! I use: 3 eggs heavy cream some flavor DaVincis or Artisans SF syrup (today Hazlenut) sometimes a scoop of protein powder coffee (today hazlenut, hence the hazlenut syrup) at least 2 TBS coconut oil I whip the eggs, cream and syrup up in the blender early and throw it in the fridge to get cold. I then brew 7 oz of coffee from the Keurig, add the CO to melt and let that cool while getting ready for work. Then I whip it all together before I leave. I have one of those mugs you throw in the freezer that has gel in to keep things cold so I pour it in there. I have quite a few diff. flavors of coffee to use. I will be checking out Netrition for different flavors of the DaVincis tomorrow!

Thanks for the Egg creme recipe
Thanks so much for the recipe. I tried it yesterday, and it was a long time before I was hungry again. I also had a visit from the whoosh fairy and lost 3lbs since yesterday. I had been stalling for about a week. So, this was a nice surprise. I don't necessarily think it had to do with the egg creme. But it sure decreased my appetite and caused me to eat less than I normalily would. Thanks again.

I love them too. For those of you who are hesitant to try them because of the raw egg thing...once you blend this really well, you don't even know there is raw egg in there. It's just frothy and liquidy, not runny-like egg whites. They do keep you full for some reason. I just got a job and these shakes are just what I need to keep me satisfied and not eat all of the 'office junk'.

Now isn't there a way I can tempor the eggs with a little bit of the hot liquid first and then add the rest of the eggs? you know to make them "safer"?
