Also, unless soy is properly fermented, like in soy sauce, tempeh, miso or some tofus, it has properties that prevent the minerals and other nutrients in your food from being absorbed. Eat a lot of soy, and it can take nutrients out of your system that were already there. Last summer the American Heart Association removed its endorsement of soy, after better tests did not show it helps the heart. Companies that continue to say "heart-healthy" are doing so without the AHA's approval, and in direct opposition to the current research. I don't let my kids or hubby have soy (other than soy sauce and once in while miso or tofu). I avoid it myself.

I don't know if you're like me, but I've been doing LC for a month & after a quick 8lb loss, nothing. After really analyzing what I've been doing I realized that I've been eating a lot of cream cheese and splenda so I've decided to get some Stevia & drop the cream cheese from the diet for a few weeks to see what happens. I've also had at least 1 small cheat each week and I believe that has contributed to my stall. Nothing major like french fries, just a cup of coffee (caffeine raises insulin levels causing your body to store calories as fat - for some this is not a problem but my metabolism is whacked from years of up & down abuse) or some sugar free choclate covered nuts (not allowed on the program I'm doing). So, I realized that on the first week when I had such good results I was REALLY eating the way I was supposed to and the following weeks I got lazy to a small degree. I've recommitted myself to doing the plan the way it's supposed to be done and I hope this will move me past the stall point and back into weight loss mode. Is there any possibility that you could be in a similar situation? |

So what kind of protein powder do you use? I am still in ketosis. But I noticed things are not moving as they should be. My best friend's dad uses IsoPure Protein Powder. I think I can get that from netritiion. I knew my egg cream was tasting to good to be true.

I ran out of heavy cream. So, I used an Atkins Shake (Choc. Royale flavor), and put some Davincy's English Toffee Syrup, three eggs, and a little splenda. Wow! It tastes just like liquid Heath bar.
I usually rely on the heavy cream for fullness. I'll let you know later if this version keeps me full as long. |

Day 30:
Still drinking an egg creme for breakfast every day. Still using my oritinal recipe, just changing up the flavors. Still keeps me full for hours and hours. I still don't think I'm eating enough, but I'm working on it. Total Loss to report in 30 days: 14 lbs. Will I continue? Yes, I believe this is a habit now. It's quick, it's easy, and I can manipulate the flavors so many ways it's not even close to being boring. |

I tried the egg cream (had to make it South Beach friendly) I love it. I made one for my kids on Saturday. I didn't tell them it had raw eggs in it until they drank it all. The raw egg thing did not even phase them. They said it tasted better than the ones we get at starbucks! Thanks for inspiring me to give it a try. |

1st ever egg creme
I just read this and had to make my own. The raw eggs freaked me out a bit too but I blended and blended and blended just to make sure the weren't runny or thick. I didn't have any cream so I just used a splash of milk, no syrup, so I used vanilla extract and it was soooo good. And I don't even like coffee !! That first drink was scary, all I could think was I'm drinking raw eggs but I got over it pretty quick. I think I'm going to order the chai tea syrup and used iced tea instead and try to make my own iced chai tea latte, I love those. Yay for egg cremes !!

Thicker?
Hi everyone:
Tried making two egg cremes today. My question is how can I make it thicker--like a shake or egg nog? I like the flavor, but I think I would love thicker. Anyone? My recipe (just started it today): 2 eggs 2 cups of coffee (approx.) 1/4 cup cream 1 equal |

try adding some sugarfree jello to it and let it sit in the fridge for a while ..
I also think if you temper the eggs with hot cream and cook them like custard a bit it will thicken up in the fridge? I have never done this though. I'd also say try using just one cup of coffee, and try 3 eggs... |

I made one yesterday and one today, yesterday too much coffee, today much better, tomorrow will be awesome!
I got over the raw egg part by first blending the eggs on high until they're very smooth, then very slowly pouring the very hot coffee while still blending on high. Not sure it actually cooks the eggs, but I can at least pretend it does! Tonight I'm going to do the eggs, hot coffee, and cream, then put in fridge, tomorrow morning will blend with crushed ice. I think that will give it that thick "shake" consistency. Tempering, that's what the hot liquid does to the eggs. Similar to the low-carb eggnog my dad made at Christmas and the amazing homemade ice cream we make at 4th of July every year.

Ok--tomorrow I will try less coffee. I don't have enough eggs to go with 3--but I will see what I can do :-) I prefer to drink it icy cold--so I am thinking I will mix it up tonite and see what it tastes like in the morning.
Thanks! Last edited by Robbit : 04-21-2008 at 08:12 PM. |

You mean like scramble the eggs and drink the coffee with cream? That's what I've normally done, but Egg Creme is much easier to take in the car (every minute counts on my weekday mornings), and it's a really nice change from fry/scramble/fry/scramble.

Just have to give you all a little thank you for finally convincing me to try these... as you all know, they're delicious!!! I was way freaked out by the raw eggs, but finally decided to just go for it and I'm so impressed. I can easily see these being a nice part of my woe. I used 2 eggs, 2tbs cream, 2 pkts splenda, a little vanilla, and coffee. It was a little plain. Then added some sf vanilla coffee creamer and blended with ice, served over ice. I probably used too much coffee(or ice?). There was enough for two of us to share. Next time I'll do less coffee, so I get one serving with two eggs instead of one. It was sooo good, tho, and still filling!
Thanks Cherry & all!
