Stats: 5ft 11, looking for inch loss!
WOE: Intuitive eating/Callanetics
Start Date: 4th jan 08 - changed 29th feb
im finding myself drawn back to kimkins.

The lack of weight loss i am seeing (my weight is now up at 208, has been for a few days) and the fact that i feel so fat still is making me think about kimkins. i got 183 on that diet, and i think maybe nothing else will work.

stopping smoking has made it worse, and i cant shift the scale past 200.

im drinking my weight in water, ive cut out bacon, im not snacking much, im logging on fitday and coming out at around 1600 cals, 105g fat, 146g protein, 21g carbs, 4g fibre.

i may not be exercising as such but i am CONSTANTLY moving, i am cleaning, cooking, working, walking around... i have ordered a yoga dvd to get some exercise started.. i get at least 9000 steps per day, when at work i avergae 3 miles walking whilst there. (4 days per week)

i am sleeping more, im making sure i get 8-9 hours per night.

im taking supplements, omega 3 capsules, multivitamin, milk thistle every day.

ive come off the chantix drugs to stop smoking in case they werent helping.

i do feel good, im not hungry, i dont think about food and im sure im in ketosis... my mouth tastes vile and im full of beans but the weights getting higher.

I know how you feel. I get into this spiral where lose so well at first! Then it tapers off...and I go off plan. Now Im on day 2 of induction, again.

Losing weight is hard. I think that I may do some sort of all meat/egg for a few days. Kimkins, it just scares me. Im afraid without the fat...I won't feel satiated.

Siiiiggggghhhhh losing weight is hard....did I say that already?

Pitch the scale girl! You are doing everything right ... except that you do need to start some exercise ... even a 30 minute daily walk qualifies. Kimkins worked for you to lose pounds in the past, but you put them back on, I am guessing from your post. Slow weightloss that stays off and allows you to keep progressing really does make better sense.

1600 calories is perfect as are your carbs!!! You will lose your weight this way!!!!!!! Please put your blinders on and keep up the great great work!!!!!

i know i shouldnt care what the scale says... but the fact is im not getting smaller measurements wise either.

im going to book a badminton court this week for an hour.

definately. to play with my fiance.

i just want to get under 200 then i'll be alot happier.

i know deep down its stopping smoking which has screwed it all up, and i think that is so unfair, i mean i wasnt thin when i smoked, so why get fatter when i quit!? PAH!

Paula, all of your numbers look good but your protein may be a bit high. Barry Groves says that you should eat a higher percentage of fat than protein and your numbers are switched around from that. You seem to be eating a good amount of fat so maybe try reducing the amount of lean meats that you're eating. If you focus on fattier cuts of meat, the numbers should work out better and you may feel more satisfied with less meat.

Your body has been through alot (with doing kimkins in the past) and sometimes it takes time for your metab to heal. The other thing that sticks out to me is the vile taste in your mouth. Keto breath? I have done low carb a long time and we used to say this was a "sign" of ketosis (when you have been really strict).

I have come to find out recently, that it's not a sign of that. It's a sign of eating too much protein. THAT could be causing you not to lose weight. Too much protein can turn into glucose?

Try uping your fat. I now eat, Higher fat, Moderate protein and lower in carbs.

Paula, are you afraid of fat since doing Kimkins?

Here is an article on "keto breath" that someone (I can't remember who) posted on here before.

No More Ketobreath!

Also, what about reading a little bit about "Barry Groves". There are also people in the "Other Plans" room doing his plan called "Eat Fat, get thin". Maybe it will help you with information and figuring what is actually going on.

The BEST of luck to you!

Paula, Your body is going thru great changes right now with quitting smoking, changing your way of eating and the medications. You are doing amazing! (I used Chantix as well and it's been since 9-11-06 since I've smoked)

All of your numbers look good with no obvious problem unless you are just not eating enough to lose weight. If you've done Kimkin's then your body just may be in starvation mode and not quite trust you enough yet to lose weight again. Your body might just feel you may not feed it again so it better hold on to the fat for dear life! So don't go back to what may have caused the problem in the first place. Keep on keeping on and the weight/inches will come off. Just don't let it get the best of you.

hmmm... i think you could be right about protein, what are good foods to get that down and fat up though? i do usually eat fattier meats like lamb and beef but i had a big chicken i needed to use up which is whats for dinner tonight hence the lean meat!

i eat pork rinds once or twice a week as a snack, they help boost fat, i add butter or olive oil to everything i eat, as a dressing, i have ordered cocnut oil so when that comes i shall add that to!

as a side note, i have just rang and booked the badminton courts this saturday for an hour, £4, half price with my student card and free racquet rental.

Paula,

First - You are doing awesome, don't forget that!

Second - I agree with what others have said, your protein may be too high

Third - you said you stopped Chantix...your body is going to go through a withdrawl from that as well, just like with any meds...give it time I think that otherwise everything looks ab fab so KUTGW and you'll see results

Good Luck!

I went to the DR because I thought I would go nuts not losing weight like I wanted and the first thing he asked me was bout my exercise program. HE told me that cleaning house, just walking around or cooking, etc does NOT count as exercise.

TO exercise I must be WALKING for 30 min or do a DVD for 30 mintues. HE also said when I stop losing weight again then it is time to up the exercise even if that means doing 30 in the morning and 30 at night.

I would venture to say that you are just not getting what you think in exercise.

Try 30 minutes a day, every day and see if the scales comes down.

ALSO ONLY get on the scales once a week or it will drive you nuts. I get on the scales every MONDAY MORNING, at the same time, wearing the same outfit. (Nothing) I have a piece of paper hanging there and I write down my weight.

I loose very slow, and I follow the atkins program to the letter. I lost 5 lbs last month. Before TOM I will gain that in water but I know the following week it comes off and more. I am praying for 7 to 8 lbs lost this comming month but I know I will need to up the exercise to twice a day or 1 hour at a time. So far I have lost nothing for this month.

MY neighbor purchased one of those mini trampolines and will not watch TV unless she is walking on it. She is doing really good. Her DR. told her the same thing, unless it is 30 minutes of straight exercise then she would not really see any results.

I hope this helps...

i understand that about exercise, but i also understand that im 23 yrs old, my metabolism should not be that bad already surely?

i cant fit in 30 mins every day, if i could i would do. i can get an hour in once or twice a week right now. i am working 35 hours a week, and full time at uni with assignments due in over the next 3-4 weeks, im also decorating my house.

ive bought a yoga dvd that is 30 min workouts, i am going to do that 2 times per week, badminton for an hour once a week and weight lift at home 1 time a week.

how does that sound?

im also going to look into getting some more small exercise equipment for the home.

Exercise is not optional, even on a low-carb diet. You want quick results, and you don't want to be a flabby thin person, so it's worth the investment in time.

Also, as Linda Sue and tooter have said, protein can still turn to sugar in the blood stream to be burned for fuel in place of bodily fat. If you are feeding your body too much protein, it's turning to sugar in the bloodstream, and is being burned before fat. Now, dietary fat is the hardest to convert, so you want more of that!

You're showing all of the classic signs of ketosis, so throw in some meaningful exercise and I really think you'll be raising your metabolism! Get that furnace working inside of your body.

Just a word of warning about pork rinds. They don't contain as much fat as you'd think they would. They are actually higher in protein than fat so the ratio is off if you're watching that sort of thing. I seem to gain nearly every time I eat those things but it could also be the salt that's the problem for me.

When you find that you are eating a leaner cut of meat, top it with some cheese, melted butter or low carb gravy or anything that will boost the fat and fill you up without having to eat a huge portion.

I agree again. If I have "chicken Breast" I will spread some butter on it before I eat it.

Oh, Paula? The other thing I do Is I put Virgin Coconut oil in my "Tea". It's a very good natural "Fat" with lots of "healing" properties to it. I also "fry" foods in it. It tends to give me a "boost" of energy and also help out with the "metab" issues.

this is the ebay blurb for the cocnut oil ive bought (on its way to me!)

Pure ORGANIC Virgin Coconut Oil from Sri Lanka - Coconoil.

This Organic Virgin Coconut Oil has Soil Association certification - a standard you can trust about the authenticity of the product.( Suppliers of a genuine organic product should be able to provide this type of certification from a certificating organisation.Without it - it shouldn't be called organic.)

Also with Vegetarian Society accreditation.

does that sound like the right stuff?

i do want to start exercising, i keep thinking back to when i was a member of a gym and had a friend to go with, we went to a class 3 times per week and i got a six pack within 2 months. i build muscle quickly and once im into it i love exercise, but i hate starting!! im lazy.

ive got crock pot chicken for tea, i chucked a huge knob of butter in with it and im gonna eat the skin and melt more butter on it tonight, and have cabbage fried in butter with it.

what kind of things other than that are good to eat with a high fat low protein ratio...?

ive been trying not to eat too much cheese?

You want 60% of your calories to come from fat, 35% of your calories to come from protein, and 5% of your calories to come from carbohydrates (in induction).

The quickest way to figure these numbers is to use fitday, because it gives you a little pie chart of the percentages for you.

Paula,
Try adding a tablespoon of coconut oil in your hot tea if you drink it. I have a cup of hot tea everynight before bed with a dollop of coconut oil in it. It sounds gross, but it is great and soothing and fills me up, and calms me down before bed.

I'm up at 4:15 am everyday to do this and I've never felt better! It gets the blood flowing and keeps me clear-headed throughout the day and I'm truly tired in the evening and end up sleeping much better. But like I said, just a suggestion...you're headed in the right direction by adding some exercise, I guarantee you'll start feeling so much better and find ways to get more in.
