I have been doing the Coconut Oil thing!

Well - I have to say it's not in my head!! This stuff really is all that it is cracked up to be! For the past few days I have been adding co to my whey shake and I honestly am full! This feeling lasts all day too! Yesterday seemed like it would be a disastrous eating day but in the mid morning hour I had the shake and it got me through the whole day until dinner. Today is the same - I have had 1/2 of my shake and I simply have zero appetite! For me - that is miraculous!!

Good for you! I put it in my coffee every morning. I've found that my favorite is the refined (tasteless) oil. It's great for cooking, too....makes everything nice and crispy.

I bought the Lou-Ana CO. I have it in my cabinet and only used it to make bark. What all can I use this for??? How is it in your Shake? Does it stay chunky or does it melt? And if you don't mind me asking, what kind of shakes to you make. I'm still on induction but would love something like that for my daughter!!

I still haven't bought it yet. With family budgeting, there are only so many lowcarb "extra's" I can buy before it starts raising eyebrows.

If I can't saute vegetables in it like I can olive oil, then I'd have to buy both.

I'm intrigued about what it does, though.

Oh but you CAN saute veggies in it!! Some people prefer the expeller pressed (basically no taste) for doing this.

Here are some of the benefits of coconut oil:

* Promoting your heart health
* Promoting weight loss when and if you need it
* Supporting your immune system health
* Supporting a healthy metabolism (it is thermogenic)
* Providing you with an immediate energy source
* Helping to keep your skin healthy and youthful looking
* Supporting the proper functioning of your thyroid gland

OKay!!! So, I'm very sold on this CO thing being good and healthy, but help me out with some "uses" and "how to's." Like what do I mix in or with and how do I apply it to my skin? Can I use it on my face, hands or just overall body? The brand that I bought doesn't smell or taste like Coconut which is good. As of now I use Smart Balance cooking oil. Can you or anyone out there give me some examples or ideas?

Opinions please - do you think CO has the same affect when it is used in baking, cooking, etc.?

I can't say enough good things about it!! It is Friday - everyone at work is chowing down anything and everything and I just do not have any appeitite - infact the food is not appealing. I had finished my shake - I made it with 2 scoops of jay Robbs whey powder and 1 heaping tbs of coconut oil - 50 oz water and ice cubes - this is the same thing I did on Tues, wed, and thurs and then went home an had a manageable dinner. I encourage you all to try it!

If you get expeller-pressed from the grocery store (Spectrum Organic brand), whatever you're making won't taste like coconut. It's odorless and tasteless. I use it for frying anything (higher smoke point than olive oil), slathering on turkey burgers before broiling, any meal where I need extra fat. I put the extra virgin unrefined stuff ($9.50 at Wal-Mart-- Rexall brand) on my skin, and eat it in smoothies or straight off the spoon. Makes a great magic shell, too. My skin is no longer breaking out and the dry patch on my nose has cleared up! That may have to do with low-carbing in general though. It's worth the investment!

I've never tried my CO like this, but this sounds like a GREAT idea.

Love the stuff we share on these boards!

I would say that added fat is helping my weight loss...but I do use coconut oil as a large portion of my fat. It's helping for the first time in YEARS.

I've been using it in my coffee every morning since last June. It keeps my appetite under control, I have tons of energy, and my skin and hair are in the best shape ever. A word of caution for new users...I can't use it in the afternoon. If I do, I can't sleep at night. 2 to 3 TBLS. a day is recommended for optimal benefit but start out slowly and work your way up. It will cause a yeast die off and can make you nauseous for a few days. It is also the only thing I've ever tried that has raised my good cholesterol.

I generally use Nutiva to put in my coffee and Lou Ana to cook with. Perfect during the Winter months as it gives me "the warmies" all day...perks my complexion right up.

My SIL is using it as a moisturizer on her face and it is really helping. She said her coworkers have really noticed.

I use the Nutiva brand when I want a coconutty flavor, and for making protein/flax/CO treat cups out of. I also use the Spectrum brand a lot for cooking as it has a neutral to no flavor. I use them on my skin and put it on my hair ends. I've even started trying out the oil-pulling thing.

But the biggest benefit I know I get from CO is serious evening appetite control. Coming home from work or the gym after 5 -- it's just such a trigger time for me to eat and eat. Now, as soon as I come home, I eat two of my little CO cups I make and keep in the freezer. And it just DESTROYS my appetite for the rest of the evening. Half the time, I can barely eat my dinner because I just don't have an appetite. I've really realized the difference lately on days I don't have the CO.

Coconut oil is GREAT to cook with. For frying low Carb Tortillas and Also, I will cut up the low carb lavash bread and fry them for crackers to use with dips.

Cleo

It depends on the store! In my Kroger (and Publix and Food Lion) it is with their "health food section". The Super-WalMart has it in the vitamin section--the Virgin coconut oil and also with the cooking oils--the Louana brand.

Thank you, dawn!

I would have been looking in the cooking aisle. LOL!!!

I could see asking someone where the CO is and having them look at me like I'm the coconut.

Cleo, there are 2 types of coconut oil you can get at the Super Wal-mart.

Most people uses the Virgin Coconut oil for the health benefits. It's not as refined, has the smell and slight taste of Coconut. It also has anti-yeast/bacteria qualities to it. It's also very expensive. I buy mine at a Health food store (Nutiva). Wal-mart has the VCO in the vitamin section and it's about $9 and something for 16 oz. In the Cooking oil section of Walmart they have the Louann Brand. It's Alot cheaper, but is not the Virgin Coconut oil. It has no taste, is not hydrogenated and looks and cooks like Crisco.

I use the VCO in my tea and to make coconut oil bark with. I use the Louann Oil to fry foods in. Louann is 31.5 oz for about $2.70???

Cool, Tooter! I'll check that out, too! It would be refreshing to see a Virgin anything again after all of the press surrounding Brittney Spears and LiLo.
