McDonalds Bunless Cheeseburgers
Hey guys since I am getting sick of a lot of foods, my typical meal for a day has been 4 bunless cheeseburgers from McDonalds. I get mayo, ketchup, pickle, and mustard. They dont put a lot on so I am not concerned about the carbs there. Is this okay being on akins? I dont seem to be gaining any weight and I have been losing somewhat. Thanks

Well, a lot of people here are advocates of eating real food and a Mickey D's hamburger doesn't constitute as real food.
Plus, a lot of people are advocates of "this isn't about just losing the weight, but learning how to eat for life." I suppose if you're still losing, you could get away with eating just those, but are you really teaching yourself anything about eating for life? I'm afraid you're just setting yourself up for losing the weight, gaining the weight PLUS, losing the weight, gaining the weight PLUS. Why not try finding some new recipes! This is something that can be a bit challenging, but fun! For some good food ideas . . . Funny, Nick, you were here back in August wondering pretty much the same thing, now weren't you?
You said: I am about 2 weeks into my atkins diet. I lost a quick 10 pounds. Then I gained 3 back. I have been keeping it under 10 carbs a day, somedays 0 carbs. I run a mile everday. I dont really count calories, is that something I should keep in mind? I usually eat till im full and it can be a lot at times. I have been getting cheeseburgers from mcd's eating only the burger and cheese. Can anyone give me some help. I also tend to drink a lot of diet soda, but have been drinking at least 3 glasses of water a day. Help would be appreciated. Did you follow the advice that was given back then? Hi,
I worry about the catsup, because they sneak in that high fructose corn syrup, and it isn't just about the calories it adds. It can trigger hunger, and promote food cravings, which puts you at crossroads when you are in a hurry, no time to cook, and now really hungry. If your lifestyle makes it so that you need to grab those, insist on no catsup. What about El Pollo Chicken? Get just the chicken, no sides except some salsa. Munch a few pieces of that. I carry packets of mayonnaise in my glove, because when you add some fat in, the hunger stays away for hours and you feel satisfied too, and it promotes fat-burning as well, which you want. I'm on the go a lot, and that's why I try and think of places that have quick foods I can grab, yet stay on track. I've also gone into a grocery store, and bought hot, ready-to-eat tri-tip beef. A little bit of mustard and mayo, and a couple of leaves of romaine, roll it up and away you go! You can also buy a few slices of cheese from the deli, toss that in too. I realize many men don't want to mess with a lot of cooking, so maybe this will help a bit. Take care!

Hi
Are you eating 4 bunless burgers and thats it for the day?? This will be diffucult to maintain for any length of time. Where are your veggies?? Ketchup does have sugar in it and may be making you hungry. The salt content may be making you retain water. The problem with this is its not teaching you to each real food. Is it possible to cook two meals home and have the bunless burger for lunch. |

I've eaten McDs double cheeseburgers w/o ketchup & bun since I started this WOE with no problems. I know it's not a popular opinion on these boards but I think everyone should do what works for them. I am being realistic in the fact that to make this a WOL for me then I need it to work for me in every situation. If that means grabbing a cheeseburger while I am out and about then so be it. Good Luck to you!
And BTW, don't worry about asking questions more then once... I've done it myself on several occasions if I wasn't sure about something ![]()

I agree with you and have also eaten fast food when Ihad to. But It does not sound like he is eating anything else. I know its difficult but making meals and knowing what is in it will help you succeed in the future. Ask as many times as you need to and we are here to try and help you. Maybe give us some more information as to what your daily meal plan looks like. Last edited by JKat : 01-02-2008 at 05:35 AM. |

McDonalds is the lowest quality of "food". There are so many chemicals in that food as well as their coffee. It contains transfats which cause heart disease.
I encourage you to choose real healthy foods first and utilize fast food for extreme emergencies. Eating McDonalds every day most certainly increases your chances of heart disease and not just by a minute amount. |

I usually have Wendy's when we are out and about and want to stop. Their burger quality seems better IMO. Not sure about it in the end, I guess, its all still fast food.

I love them and eat them about once a week. When i eat them twice a day, and a sausage egg cheese bisquit( without the biscuit) from there in the mornings is when i lose fastest. As in more than a pound a a day. I eat it with the onions and ketchup. BUT as everyone on here tells me, it IS NOT HEALTHY and no way to live, and Atkins is about health, so now i eat them not as often, and am trying to eat mostly meats and veggies from home.

I agree, Wendy's is my first choice in fast food. I know McD's says their burgers are 100% pure beef, but seriously, does a burger you make at home from fresh ground meat have that consistency? Not mine. I believe they are full of fillers.

McWhat?
McWHAT? Forget that action. Get the Wendy's Baconator, toss the bun, and try my Revoloopsie roll recipe instead! It's less crumbly than the original Atkins recipe, and more, shall we say, supple? Ooohhh... suppplllleeeeeee... But please. Don't squeeze mah burger. ![]() |

Mcdonalds Bunless burgers are yummy!! And they are "real" food, 100% beef. They can be higher in sodium due to the seasoning. I have never had a problem, but I do skip the ketchup

Hi everyone, I have to pop in on this one. I work for McDonald's and can assure you that the meat s indeed 100% beef. We add nothing to the meat (except seasoning of course). I often will have a bunless cheeseburger, or QPC, or sausage patty with an egg. Please check out mcdonalds.com for all the info you could ever want regarding the food ingredients and nutritional information.
Still, I would agree that you need some variety in your diet! Most places have an LC option if you get a little creative, and there are many easy things to do at home. I keep tuna and hard boiled eggs ready in the fridge. Best of luck.

Carolyn-- I'm making some this morning, too! It was the most fortuitous mistake I'd ever made. When I went back and tried the right recipe, I was gacked out. Even my husband loved the oopsies and kept fondling them.

At that low a carb count (less than one per roll, and I'm guessing maybe 5 for the burger on a bad day), there's not much damage you could do... save for to your taste buds, which would be drooling allllll of the time. It's a substantial burger for very few carbs and so yummy you could just scream... but you wouldn't want to. Noise ordinances and all that. I add the side salad and the biggie bev and I'm good to go for two meals.

Ok, according to the McDonalds website, 4 bunless cheeseburgers roll in at 18 total carbs, 2 fiber, and 610 calories.
My question would be, what are you eating the rest of the day? You definitely need to get some veggies, at minimum, 3 cups a day of low carb veggies. Salads, celery or pepper or zuchini slices with dip, its very easy to sautee veggies in pan with olive oil and garlic or soy sauce. I would go through the supermarket and see what other protein sources that are quick that you like to eat. Rotisserie chicken? Deli turkey meat? Canned tuna? Precooked chicken or steak strips? Eggs for devilled eggs, omlettes, etc. Try to limit the hamburgers. There are a ton of other fast food type low carb options. Anywhere will give you a salad with grilled meat or chicken. You can get sub sandwhiches and eat the insides or insides or fajitas with grilled meat, grilled peppers and onion, guacamole, cheese, and sourcream. Most restaurants have websites that will give you their nutritional information if you do a google search for their website. Last edited by Strawberry : 01-02-2008 at 09:58 AM. |

If you're losing, you're doing all right.
But, as strawberry says, your day has to consist of more than McCheesy goodness. Try a more substantial burger, like the Baconator--sans bun-- and get the side salad. The side salad consists of induction-friendly veggies, and the Italian dressing is fairly low-carb. |
