Needing all the positive reinforcement I can get for my Restart

I weighed myself today and I was at a disappointing 273lbs. I have been waiting for some big catastrophic event to push me to restart and lose the weight, but nothing of the sort. Just a simple little light bulb clicked today and I realized the only thing/person that is going to make me lose....is ME!

So I am taking control and instead of waiting til Monday to restart, I've decided to restart tomorrow. I know its going to be hard, but I really need to do this.

I think I have set a realistic goal for myself (8-10lbs a month) so hopefully by my birthday (end of March, I can be down (56-70lbs).

Any tips you can give me to keep on track would be great. Thanks.

I don't have any tips, sorry. But I wanted to congratulate you for getting back on LC. You will feel so much better. It is hard to think of the benefits down the road. So many of us feed on instant gratification (I do) but I have to believe it will all be worth it in the end. I look forward to the day when I am the skinny bi*ch everyone is jealous of at the beach. LOL good luck!

WOE: Low Carb (30-60g daily)
Congrats on deciding to start, sometimes that is the hardest part.

1 - I would clean out your house as much as you can and get rid of all the things you can't eat. If there are other people in the home - rearange the cabinets or something so that all the things you can't have are in one place - and do not let yourself go there.

2 - Plan some menus and go shopping so that you always have something to eat in the beginning - you don't want to be unprepared when the cravings hit - it is too hard to make decisions then - you need to have legal stuff right there.

3 - Decide to work out - even if it is walking for 10-15 mins a day - anything to help your body get moving.

4 - Start a journal and read other people's - it is great motivation and makes you accountable everyday (come visit mine and invite me to yours!)

5 - Write down everything you eat...use fitday or calorieking to do this...fitday is free.

6 - Take some pics and hang them up where you will see them everyday to remind you - where you work out, on the fridge, on that cabinet of food you don't want to go into...

7 - Take each day at a time, hour by hour stay on plan, don't focus on anything in the future, it can be too overwhelming when you start. Just get through each meal and each day and then start the next one. After about a week or two, it will start to become habit.

8 - Eat fresh food - stay away from processed things and low carb stuff, except when absolutely neccesary - an emergency or super busy day or something.

9 - Drink tons of water.

10 - Be nice to yourself and be positive. You are doing this to feel better - it is not a race...you will lose when you lose!

Good luck and come and check in often - these board are AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to say that this is "doable". But it is also fairly aggressive. If you don't hit it every month, don't get so tied into that as a goal that you get discouraged.

Especially if you are a woman at or approaching menopause.

Autumn is the best time to recommit to an eating plan. The food this time of year is fantastic and just about every plant is ready for harvesting. YOu got some great tips here, now pump yourself up & do it!

One addition to Jen's excellent list: Take your measurements! Then you'll have a point of comparison as your weight loss journey goes along.

If I was braver I would have taken bikini/underwear pictures to compare, but I can't stand the thought of me at my heaviest recorded on film for posterity.

Good luck! You can do this.

I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said. Join a challenge. get to know the great people on this site. Be honest about your progress. Own up to failures and then move on. Just don't ever stop.

Best of luck,

Congratulations on deciding to re-induce! Deciding is the first (and most important) step in reaching your goals!! (I'm just 2 weeks ahead of you.)

No matter how much you lose by your birthday, you'll be glad you're lighter (and healthier), so don't get discouraged if you lose slower than you plan. It's still good!

For me the hardest part about sticking with a program is I tend to ignore the parts of it I don't like until it gets to be too much and I crumble under the pressure. I hate spending time preparing meals so instead of making these elaborate concoctions I came up w/5 easy but tasty, healthy and satisfying meals that I can cook/prepare in less than 10 minutes. I also used to hate going to the gym because I was intimidated by the equiptment and had no clue how to use it all, so I hired a personal trainer for a month and now I love working out! If you sit down and identify what challenges you are going to face, you can then work on a solution before it even becomes a problem, you know what I mean? Best of luck to you!!
