It's a common misconception but you don't have to have a bm everyday. Here's a good read Constipation information and treatments.

Annie,
Thank you-- but I feel like I did. It is scary how people see someone on a message board who is 'at goal', and idolize them. I don't just mean me either, alot of people on this forum (and others) are 'idolized' because others want to be where they are. But we ALL struggle in one way or another-- and being at/below goal has its own set of demons. So I feel like I had to because it was sort of a 'lie' not to.

How can I be on here preaching (and I have been known to be quite the SERGEANT) about being healthy, KNOWING I was doing something that wasn't? Just not fair.

THANK YOU!

Its amazing just how many people does or has had the laxative dependency problem. Did it start for most of you after you started lowcarb? If so, I wonder if many of us were not eating the proper fiber Dr. Atkins suggested we eat in the form of 2 cups salad, etc.? I'm sure this was the case for me as well as not getting enough exercise in the beginning. I know in the beginning it was hard getting in the exercise needed due to feeling so poorly from "carb withdrawal".

Thanks again, Allie.
Not for me. It started back in my early 20's - or as a child if you want to count me seeing my mom and grandmother and what they did.

Yeah babe, I definitely read that too.... but what about given all the OTHER things I have been through (many rounds of antibiotics over the years due to sinus, UTI etc, down-south yeasties - not often but enough, nail fungus, bloat, prednisone for sinus issues, oral contraceptives for like 15 yrs)..? I'll just give the Threelac a whirl..

Allie - how did you make out yesterday afternoon after your cobb salad?

Boss took me out to lunch today and that's what I had (my favorite salad)...
No bloat as of almost 2 hours... a little rumbling but not uncomfortable at all.

I'll have my pre-gym snack of Full fat yoggie, with coconut bark (melted and hardened on top)...

Not sure about dinner yet - but I love raw veggies and can't wait to enjoy them full force again... oh yea and I'm almost getting brave to try FAWN's shake! LOL

I made out FINE! No problems at all. I had another salad at lunch today. We'll see! I'm pretty optimistic at this point.

I learned this a long time ago-- you never know WHO on these boards you inspire or how you do it. Despite all the people that do post, there are many many more that just read and don't post. You never really know how somebody might be touched by something you say!

Allie, that's great you found something that is not only helping in the bathroom dept., but also helping you digest the raw veggies we should all be eating!

I was doing the Dr Natura Cleanse several months back, from Jan.-March, 3 months I did it and it included senna tea every night. It recommended steeping it for 2-6 minutes. I would have to steep mine for 20-30 minutes for it to work!

I stopped drinking the tea after the cleanse, though, and have been taking Primal Defense. I may switch to the pearls, though, if they're cheaper and just as good.

Oh, Allie...I can only imagine the struggle you must have been going through on a daily basis for so long.

It sounds like things are better.

What a burden to have carried around for so long...and look at how many people you are helping with this now.

Allie--You are precious!

I looked this up...

100% natural ingredients:
Bulk Tea: cassia, licorice root, orange peel, star anise, natural flavor of vanilla, sarsaparilla, orange oil, natural flavor of cinnamon, natural flavor of clove, cardamom oil.
Tea Bag: licorice root, cinnamon, orange peel, Chinese star anise, natural flavor of vanilla, sarsaparilla, orange oil, cinnamon oil, clove oil, cardamom oil.

If you use the bulk tea, it has CASSIA in it, which I believe IS senna....

Thanks for that Allie, I didn't know that. The second one you describe sounds lovely! What's sarsaparilla?

Also regarding the licorice tea, I found this info (yeah I'm paranoid about tea now):
Licorice tea and hypertension

I also found this:
Quote:
Liquorice should not be used by those suffering from high blood pressure, fluid retention, headache, vertigo, cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, glaucoma, heart disease or a history of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, or by those who are obese. Best avoided when pregnant or lactating. May cause water retention and loss of potassium. Do not use for more than 4 weeks consecutively. Professional supervision is recommended.
Severe hypokalaemic paralysis and rhabdomyolysis due to ingestion of liquorice

Before you drink or take stuff, research it...

I've been drinking that licorice tea for about 3 years now - so I was heavier when I started drinking it plus I have a family who is prone to high blood sugar but the tea has never bothered me.

I believe in researching things but I don't think we should necessarily take everything they say as gospel. If we did, we'd be living on practically nothing for the remaining days of our lives.

Cassia/Senna

Taken from
“A Modern Herbal”
Botanicaldotcom

Cassia:
Botanical: Cinnamomum cassia (BLUME)
Family: N.O. Lauraceae
Synonyms---******* Cinnamon. Chinese Cinnamon. Cassia lignea. Cassia Bark. Cassia aromaticum. Canton Cassia.
---Part Used---The dried bark.

Description---As its name of ******* Cinnamon implies, the product of this tree is usually regarded as a substitute for that of the Cinnarmomum zeylanicum of Ceylon, which it closely resembles

Senna:

Botanical: Cassia acutifolia (DELL.)
Family: N.O. Leguminosae

Medicinal Action and Uses---Purgative. Its action being chiefly on the lower bowel, it is especially suitable in habitual costiveness. It increases the peristaltic movements of the colon by its local action upon the intestinal wall

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am pretty sure they are using the Cassia in the tea mentioned above as the cheaper flavoring of cinnamon.. Which is not Senna..
I LOVE this thread..
