Alliecat, I did the Yeast Spit Test this morning and yuck! It looks like from that test I have some yeast issues as well! I got my Atkins book out and started reading about it. I have been in a stall for months now(up and down with the same weight) and this may be why. I have a few of the symptoms as well.

So, what do I do from here? Do I start taking the probiotics? Do I cut out the mold foods as well? I know a while back I saw some pills you could take for Candida at GNC. Does anyone know what ingredients they have in them? Has anyone tried getting rid of it that way? Need some help here! Thanks!

I ordered Threelac (I dont know where you can get it locally). You can do a search on here, and google to learn about it-- but it has gotten great reviews from what I can tell. We'll see....

Threelac is another probiotic with strains other than the one in the Acidophilus Pills. Now that I see how probiotics affect my body, I have faith.

Allie this is a wonderful thread.

I don't have any of these problems myself but it is so important to air these issues and you have really opened a 'can of worms' here.

This should go into the amazing posts!

Well done and good luck everyone.

Allie, I'm slow at posting to this but I admire you for being so brave in posting this. It takes a very courageous, strong woman to be able to admit something like this. And I'm sure you feel lighter now just posting this!

I've never had issues with laxatives, etc. but I have had issues with starving myself to stay thin...it took me a long time to admit to that...but I felt so much better when I was able to share it with others.

I heard Threelac is the best thing out there on the market. I was researching something awhile back & read about Threelac.

If anyone wants a tea to help get things moving, just drink something called Licorice Spice (made by Stash) - it has licorice in it which helps you to 'go' but it does not have the harsh ingredient Senna in it. This has done wonders for me. One cup of that & I'm good to go...

Dyan

Good for you, Alli - you addressed the problem and took steps to correct it. You're inspiring, as always.

I've never taken a laxative in my life, but I have used priobiotics whenever I go on antibiotics.

There is also a great one for kids called "Children's Florestor", for anyone who might have to put their children on antibiotics. Ask pediatrician first, of course.

I take Super 8 Hi-Potency Probiotics with 15 billion cells and includes 8 strains of good bacteria. It along with the 369 oils really does the job. Whole Foods has a huge variety of Probiotics. I have been told by many that those which require refrigeration are the best to use.

Its amazing just how many people does or has had the laxative dependency problem. Did it start for most of you after you started lowcarb? If so, I wonder if many of us were not eating the proper fiber Dr. Atkins suggested we eat in the form of 2 cups salad, etc.? I'm sure this was the case for me as well as not getting enough exercise in the beginning. I know in the beginning it was hard getting in the exercise needed due to feeling so poorly from "carb withdrawal".

Thanks again, Allie.

I just realized Netrition also sells the one I take. Good explanation of it as well as a lower price than Whole Foods.

I totally agree.

One thing that definitely helped me gain control over the purging was when I discovered the damage I was doing to my vocal chords. I'm a singer and do a bit of performing, so I knew I had to do anything I could to regain control.

I guess the laxatives are harder to kick because it's "easier" than purging.

Yes, my addition began after I started low carb. And, I believe it was b/c I was not (and am no) eating proper fiber

You can find Braggs in Larger Grocery stores. Usually it's with the Organic stuff (not with other vinegars). Ask your grocery store if they carry it, if you can't find it. Also, any health food store would carry it.
Just a quick tidbit of information -- raw apple cider can harbor e.coli bacteria, and if your gut is stripped of friendly bacteria, that's a bad combo. But, you can kill off e.coli naturally, with cinnamon.

Read below to understand how:

Cinnamon kills E.coli in apple juice. | Retail Trade > Food and Beverage Stores from AllBusiness.com

ScienceDaily: Cinnamon Is Lethal Weapon Against E. Coli O157:H7

I think it's interesting -- and very cool -- that so many spices and flavorings have protective and preservative effects on the foods we eat.

Hi and welcome!! I have a quick question. How do you get your dog to drink it? We put in the water and he refused it. We were using it as a hopeful treatment of fleas, because the others weren't working!

I can't believe you posted that. Weird, when I would make that drink with Apple cider Vinegar? I would dilute it in water, add some stevia and cinnamon alot of the time. It tasted GREAT!

Cool!!!!!

Even after that huge salad yesterday I still 'went' super good this morning with NO issues- and salad is usually what bloats/backs me up. These convos are getting gross- sorry for that yall.
Really? I never think of anything I have to say as being very important -- I appreciate that someone else does...

I guess, since you talked me into it , I'll get some Pearls tomorrow when I go out and give them a shot. It might help get me me "ready" to move on to phase II of the ED recovery...

Like I said in my last post, I think the laxatives are harder to kick for me than the purging because I could see the evidence of the purging causing damage to my vocal chords - not to mention that purging is hard than the "other")... it's gotten almost to the point where I don't even think about taking them - I just do as a part of my nighttime routine... I'm sure I'm doing damage, but since it's not a damage I can "see" or "feel", I just don't think about it... but I am getting close to 40 and know that I need to take care of more than just what I can see and feel.

Coconut oil
oil of oregano

These are very good natural yeast fighters. Stay away from vinegars, mushrooms, cheeses, olives......I know there's more......if you search candida on google you can find it Beth.

Great info Yellowbrix thank you!
