Ally,

Although I have not read thru this entire thread, I want to thank you. When I first saw this thread, I saw where it was about tea. Well I don't drink tea, so I didn't read on.

Well as the thread got bigger and bigger, I thought I need to see what this is about (that was on Saturday). Two weeks ago I underwent a partial hysterectomy and I have been having tummy problems. I woke up Sunday morning and realized that my problems were caused by a high dose of antibiotics that I received in the hospital.

Today I ran out and bought ACIDOPHILUS PEARLS. I know this will help me get back to my old self.

Thanks for all your support and sharing "REAL" stories to help others.

HI Anita! Your issue may also be caused by narcotic pain killers that you may be taking from your surgery. Either way the pearls are a great addition to your menu!

ALLIE - I finally bought the A.Pearls yesterday @Walmart. $13.+tax for 30 -
Question - How many are you taking per day?
When? - morning or night?
I took one last night after purchase - but no results yet this morning - course I've been addicted to the laxatives for years - The one pearl is all I took last night..... I didn't go at all yesterday from just taking stool softners the prior night -

Thanks for this post Allie! I didn't realize what these teas can do to you and was thinking about looking into them as a supplement to my weight loss! So thank you for saving me from potentially dangerous fate!

You are right, the narcotics were the problem initially. I was on morphine for 12 hours in the hospital, then I went staight to OTC pain medicine such as tylenol or advil. The nurses thought I was crazy for not wanting morphine or codine. I know from past experience that narcotic pain killers are BAD!!

Day 2 on the Pearls. I am already feeling less bloaty.

I Finally got the the end of this thread. Lots and Lots of good info...

Iv'e been lurking for a few weeks trying to get caught up with all the new developments in the LCF world before I start induction again Sunday, and have been slowly stocking the house with things I know I'll need. One item was a big bottle of MoM....
I know I still have the receipt 'cause the bottle is still in the bag... I'm gonna take that bad boy back to Walmart and if they don't have the pearls i'll make the trip into the city and buy them at GNC tonight

Last time I inducted I quit smoking after the first two weeks.. which i intend to do again.. i wouldn't 'go' for a week at a time and felt awful.... JuliaL said it was likely a combo of 'Quitstipation' and not enough veggies.... Many well meaning LCF's sugested smooth move, Mag Citrate, MoM, epsom salts, etc.. but it just seemed wrong that this healthy lifestyle should require so much "Ahem" 'intervention.. You all may have brought forward a crucial missing link in the LC WOL...

AllieCat - Thank you for speaking directly to the issue of the 'big white elephant' in the room... You are Sooooo good at that..... As Always!

XOX Much Love

I hadn't seen the correlation between painkillers and constipation, I take codydramol nearly everyday for fibromyalgia and back pain. I had been doing everything right as far as my intake of fibre, I took psyllium husks in water and in gel caps form and included golden linseeds in my diet everyday too but nothing really happened, it was so frustrating, then Allie started this thread . . . I couldn't get the pearls but I have been taking a tablet of acidophilus since Saturday, twice a day, once in the am and once at night, I have had a bm everyday since Monday, I have never been so regular . . . I am suffering from bloating and grumbling noises etc, around midday but looking on the web that does seem to be a side effect for the first few days. In between times I have noticed that my lower abdomen is flatter.
Just a note, I read yesterday that you shouldn't have a hot drink within an hour of taking it, I assumed it's because you don't want to kill of the bacteria before it's done it's job.

I've read most of this post and I think it's fascinating.....Like a few others have posted, I've never had a problem with constipation, rather the opposite problem at times. I do feel tired and sluggish a lot, though and I'm trying to figure that out (I have a Drs. appt. but not for another month). Does anyone know what else the pearls are good for? How would they affect someone without constipation? Are they "good for what ails ya?" At times I've wondered if I had a yeast problem....

thanks!

I am still 'regular', but starting 2 days ago I've been having bad lower abdominal pain. I called my gastro dr, but my appt isn't until Aug 8. I still hadn't touched the tea or softener or anything. My issue right now MIGHT be 'yeast die off' or something, if that even exists. I am taking Threelac as well as the pearls. I'd been having a pain in my lower right abdomen for about 2 months now. My gyn did an ultrasound and ruled out reproductive organs, so next is the gastro dr. We'll see.........................but still regular with no tea or other 'stuff'...

Allie, "if you took nothing" prior to the pearls - - or tea - - were you really constipated where you just wouldn't go on your own? I'm not questioning you, but that's how I am without anything to help - (just salads, fiber food & water) I still will not go - I'll get really stopped up !!
Oh, I wish the pearls would work for me on their on.... I did a Private to you yesterday - - I ended up having to drink a Magenisum Citrate, because I was so miserable - - It took hours before it ever did anything. . . but finally got some relief. I'm hoping that it unstopped some blockage and that now day 2 with the Pearls I can continue with out a problem and not have to relate back to anything else.
I hope this did not gross anyone out - but we're all in this together!!!

Here's one link Lamberts Acidophilus Extra 4

'Product Specifications
Typically per capsule:

Lactobacillus Acidophilus La5
Bifido Bacterium Bb12
4 billion live bacteria

Directions
1 capsule in the morning and 1 in the evening. Take with a glass of milk or water, or with a meal. Do not swallow capsules with hot drinks; heat kills bacteria. '

This seems to be pretty standard, it says it on my tub too.

I'm in the UK so I can't speak for the majority but I've pm'd you a link to what I use. It's a small white tablet, it's just called 'acidophilus' it's smaller than a paracetamol and so far I've had 3 bm's in 4 days, I'm very pleased as that's all that I've changed in my WOE. I would say mine works.

Hey Karsen! I replied to your pm- hope you got it sweetie! My last senna tea was the night before I started the pearls, so I never was 'backed up' to begin with. Other people have PM'd me, and they WERE backed up to begin with and got relief within 1-2 days. But we are all different. Keep taking the pearls, and I am sure you will see improvement!

Karsen - I agree with what Allie said... my last tea was the night before I started the pearls, so I wasn't backed up.

But... I was the same as you.... food in = nothing out with out help. I even ate daily flax, veggies, sometimes fiber one... plenty of water and I exercise regularly... NADA without help!

Now one week and a half later - after a slow start I have had 2 very successful days - ahem.. twice LOL - I have been taking 1 in the am and 1 in the pm... If I keep going... I'll try to cut that to once a day on Monday.

Laurie, that was me to a tee too, 3 or 4 or days without going sometimes and nothing.
Today is day 5 and I've had 3, fingers crossedxxxx.
I thought that once my body gets into a rhythm with them I'll start to cut down. My little tablets can be broken in half so I'll try reducing them a half at a time but in the meantime I'm enjoying my bathroom!!

Thanks for the replies.
Yesterday was day 2 - (I took 2 of the pearls - am & pm) Did not go at all. I did "hear" some noise that I usually do not hear, that I thought was unusual & passed a little gas - which was a good thing because usually I stay bloated where I can't even do that well. (sorry but this is how it is)
Today- day 3 - I took the pearl first thing - - afterwards I had 1 egg & 2 pieces of candian bacon. I'm waiting.......Oh, how I wish this would work.
I did start CLA & GLA the other day - but I don't see how it would interfere, if anything it should help.
Without going to the bathroom, you can see why the scale doesn't move for me!
I had to get just a 30 pearl pack from Walmart. I found a place on web that sold 90 pearls (same as I bought) for cheaper even w/ the shipping thru amazon.

I've had a major suckie week. MOSTLY because my son has had mega tummy issues this week too. We took him to the ER the other night cuz he was howling about his tummy hurting. Saw his dr today. I started him on Culturelle probiotic this morning (instead of the pearls). Since Culturelle is a capsule you can open it and pour into water. He drank it right down. His dr was pleased that I gave him that and said to give him Miralax too.

Physically I hadn't been doing so good either. I'm convinced I have IBS or something. The pearls have allowed me to go regularly, but starting Sun or Mon I had bad pain and my lower right side still hurts. I have a GI dr appt Aug 8, I want a lower GI scope done. The pain was so bad last night that I did do a milk of magnesia-- and it did feel better after. That was the only other thing I've taken in almost 2 wks. I will tell the GI dr the entire story. My son's dr recommended Miralax for him daily or every other day and said she prescribes it for lots of kids... she said even if they go daily, it still does not get rid of everything it needs to and that the Miralax was excellent even long term. It is an osmotic, drawing water into the colon to help pass-- not a stimulant and does not weaken the bowel etc.

I decided to use it too-- I took it earlier and will add that to the list to tell the GI dr. Still doing my pearls too. I don't know what my issue is. We'll see. My issue still might be with raw veg-- I have read that alot of IBS folk can't do the raw veg thing. When the salad is LARGE is when I have the issue. I just feel like I should be abe to eat a bigazz salad if I want cuz raw veg- how much healthier can you get! I did have a huge salad yday before it started hurting real bad again.

We will see. Keep up the pearls, I am!

I felt really guilty doing the milk of magnesia thing and I dont see HOW FOLK DO THAT DAILY. The tea I was doing wasn't as 'harsh' as that. Now I see how, if you are doing MoM daily and eating very low calories how one could be sick as a daggone DOG. OMG.

I didn't even wanna tell y'all I did the MoM, but I felt like my tummy had a huge hunk of heavy lead in it and it was KILLING me. Forget feeling fat-- it HURT. Again, I will tell my GI dr everything and ask for a scope and go from there. And keep taking my probiotics.
