I'm frustrated!

I just spent two whole days on a cheat. I didn't even really enjoy the food I ate either. What the heck is wrong with me? I'm looking and feeling better but have been doing horrible.

I really need some motivation fast!

Courtney,
I know exactly how you feel... after a cheat I hardly EVER think it was worth it.. It's self sabotage on my part, I am sure. Do you journal? I know there have been a few times that re-reading my journal (I keep certain pages flagged) when I had a bad day and how I felt, has really helped keep my "cheat" days fewer. I can use any excuse sometimes..
keep track.. if you write them down.. sooner or later it will help..

hang in there honey..

any room on the couch? i just did the very same thing. and it is not the first time in a long time either! i can't figure out what the heck is wrong w/me. i can go months doing great, encouraging others and then, BAM! i screw it all up. all i can offer is just go forward, drink lots of water and continue on. we can do this, you've done so well, keep it up and keep the faith, this diet does work. we just need to make better choices...

Well Darlin' I am right there with you I am such an emotional eater also. I have done good all day but I am a little depressed and all I could think about was a Whopper and I got one with the bun fries and a chicken sandwich. So you are not alone. I have been in a funk lately that is not healthy. Our heart and minds need maybe more work then our appetite. I hope things are better for you. We have both worked too hard to just give up. God Bless

WOE: organic, baby!
If you didn't even enjoy the experience, there could be a few reasons for the binge:

1. Are you missing nutrients in your way of eating? The body has a way of craving what it needs when it feels it needs it.

2. Are you eating enough? Starvation and austerity in a way of eating can lead to an opposite physiological response.

3. "that time of the month" can also cause issues with blood sugar wooblies causing cravings

4. Your fat cells want to hang onto fat for reasons of survival. If you've yoyo dieted before, your body might be trying to save for another 'famine'.

5. You have stressors that you are medicating with food, rather than dealing with appropriately.

Are you tired? Sleep.
Sngry? Write a scathing letter you never intend to send.
Sad? Cry

6. Are you bored? Nervous? Take action! Find a book or hobby you enjoy. Nervous about something? Take action. Use that nervous energy to accomplish something.

7. Sabotaging efforts? This could be an issue of feeling worthless, listening to old brain-computer programs telling you what's the point? Rewire that thinking to positive thoughts rather than thoughts of frustration and reaction.

Action always beats reaction. Reaction is largely emotional. Action is practical.

8. Was it an avoidable cheat? Did you end up out for dinner for your birthday as every year and expect different results? Holidays and events should be about making memories with people and not eating.

9. Have you been feeling emotional? Estrogen is released when fat is burned. a lot of people don't know this, and can't attribute emotional response to a temporary physiological phenomenon.

10. Plan. What causes the cheat? Plan ahead for the next instance. Always have a plan. Keep note cards with strategies for all of the reasons you ever fall off the wagon. when you feel helpless and your brain isn't functioning the way it should in those circumstances, draw out the card that gives you ideas for ways to avert a binge. It works!

I did the same thing--I was staying awake planning all the foods I wanted to eat and when it came to it, they didn't even taste that great. I found out I'm an emotional eater--well, I knew it before but just didn't realize how bad. Plus, I also eat out of boredom. So, my goals are to figure out how to handle stress in better ways AND to keep busy. I have made a very heavy (but non-stressful) 3-week plan for myself and my kids to keep busy. Idleness spells DISASTER for me! Hope you feel better soon. Get back to clean eating for 3-4 days and you'll be back on track and feeling better in no time.

Hey, Courtney -- I'm just here to say that I'm struggling right along with you! I'm an emotional eater, and this has been a particularly stressful time -- $$ issues, searching for a FT job, death in my husband's family followed by a long trip to the funeral that we just couldn't afford, no ability to take the kids for a summer vacation, and currently waiting for all of my blood work and an abdominal scan to see if possibly I have PCOS or some type of adrenal issue. any one of those alone, I could handle -- but all at once? It's getting to me!!

So although I lost down to 164, I sit here today at 168 and holding. Thank goodness it's not more!!! A week out of town eating whatever...

Today is day two of what I will call a "mini-induction" which I will do for seven days and then assess to see if I want to do another seven, or try to return to OWL.

My best advice is to find something to busy yourself -- I spent about 5 hours yesterday gardening! My neighbor had some plants that needed to be split, as did I. So I split them all and then shared mine with her and vice versa! Fun -- and FREE! Plus, you really can't eat with muddy hands...

I totally agree with Daisy. If you keep a personal journal that you promise to write everything down in, it will help you tremendously. If you write down everything you binged on, and how great it tasted but then how you felt like crap a couple hours later, you will be able to remind yourself why to stay on plan.
