Lexapro????

HI all, I have a question. I have been low carbing for the past month and have lost 23 pounds, my question is--I was prescribed Lexapro today for anxiety and I am wondering if it inhibets weight -loss or makes you gain weight? Any info will be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks

I've been taking lexapro for a few years and they say any anti depressant drug makes you gain weight. I have lost 20 pounds so far. The weight gain was not because of taking lexapro, but because I was feeling so much better and was happy again that I actually enjoyed life and eating. The problem was that I was eating the wrong kinds of foods and my portion controls were huge. And I wasn't working out like I should of been.
So to answer your question, I don't believe that lexapro made me gain the weight, I made myself gain the weight.

Here you go....maybe this will help?

What's with all of us and Lexapro?

Anti-Depressants, LCing and Emotions --- period.

I had a horrible experience with Lexapro and is one of the contributing factors in my weight gain to 214 lbs.

I gained a lot on Lexapro but I have with any antidepressents I've taken, even Wellbutrin which know for NOT having that side effect

Thank you guys for all the input, I guess I will have to wait to see if it causes me any problems, because if it does I will stop immediately!!! I am not on it for depression, but for mild anxiety and OCD, and the OCD doesn't bother me, it just bothers other people, so I guess I'll just hope for the best!!!!

I was on Lexapro for almost a year and definitely it contributed to me adding on the pounds. I am now off of all medications with exception to my High-Blood pressure med (and that I want to stop when I reach goal and my pressure goes back to normal levels).

But... if you need the drug than you must take it. You will just have to stick to your eating plan 100% to achieve the goals you want to achieve. Good luck.

Lexapro is a appitiate suppressant and for most people will cause you to lose weight. However, if you are experiencing depression once you start lexapro you may start feeling better and start eating more

I did too...even after my provider assured it me it was a low(er) side-effect anti-depressant. I also got this weird racy heartbeat thing...

I'm not sure what was going on...but I immediately stopped taking it. Come to find out I was supposed to cut back on my dosage rather than stop cold turkey (mini-disclaimer) but I wouldn't try it again?
