Carbs in Flavored Vodkas?

Hi folks

I am hoping that maybe someone here will know this. I have been unable to find this info anywhere. Do the flavored vodkas (vanilla, cranberry, etc.) have any sugar or carbs? Every nutritional database I have looked at only lists "vodka" and shows that it has no carbs - but I think that may just be regular plain vodka. The flavored ones taste so sweet its hard to believe they don't have sugar added to them.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

They probably do, I'd stick with the plain ole vodka and Cherry/Lemonade Crystal Light.........Yum, one of my favorite low carb alcoholic drinks.

Yes, the flavored vodkas do have sugar in them. I have seen 'sugar free' flavored vodka - made with splenda at the liquor store.

The flavored rums definitely have sugar.

I sent an email to Ketel 1. Let's see what they say about their vodka. I have Belvedere Orange, Grey Goose Orange and Ketel 1 Limon in my cabinet. I read something on another site indicating that there were 0 carbs in flavored vodkas. Here is the link: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art19791.asp

Hey ,that's interesting. They flavor them like the ground coffee so no carbs. I did not know that.

i dont find sky orange sweet tho...

i use the SOBELEAN fruit punch and make my faux cosmo's with those....my girlfriends and i get together every 2 or 3 weeks and "tie a tad bit of the sauce on" lol, and that is what i drink...its not a wt gain day but it does stall me for a day or two...i always go really strict diet wise for 2 days after, just if anything to dump the water!

I just got the following reply from Ketel 1.

Dear Jenna,

Thank you for visiting the Ketel One website. The following information applies to both Ketel One Vodka and Ketel One Citroen:
100% wheat
No carbohydrates
Nor corn
No sugar
No gluten
Approximately 64 calories in a 1 ounce serving.

YAY! Thanks for posting that. I wonder if Absolute Mandarin is similar in nutritional info.

I would think the Absolut is similar. It does not taste sweet to me.

I would definitely be careful with it though. I have seen the flavored vodkas made with splenda, so therefore there are some made with sugar. I'm sure there are different types.

I am not sure of the brands! I just saw them in the liquor store.

Absolute and Stoli flavored vodkas have no sugar added. Flavored rums do have sugar added. Captain Morgan is like .6 carbs per 2oz I think. I believe Shmirnoff flavored vodka does have sugar added.

Can you tell I like my alcohol?

Try unflavored rum and Diet Lime Coke - oh that's soooo good.

Also good - raspberry flavored vodka (I like Stoli) with Hansen's diet grapefruit.

And yes, it's true that your body will burn the alcohol before fuel, suspending fat burning until the alcohol is gone, so it MAY slow you down a bit. FYI!

Hi- I work in the food industry and frequently do work for flavored rums and vodkas. I can tell you the vast majority do indeed have sugar, about the same amount, if not more than Coke. Coke is about 10% sugar and the flavored rums and vodkas can have anywhere from 12-20% sugar. Not a blanket statement by any means, I have not worked with every brand. But all the ones I have worked with do...

I would hate to see somebody get their carbs all out of whack by inadvertently downing several of these.
Stick to plain vodka/ rum and add your own mixer that you KNOW to be sugar free. Or play Flavor Chemist and have fun adding extracts. Like Orange, vanilla, Almond, Lime, Lemon..... You will still need a good squeeze of lemon or lime for the tartness though. otherwise your flavor won't "pop"

If I am out at a bar I order rum with Club Soda and a lime. A lot of times when I order rum and diet coke they put regular coke in the drinks. It is so loud at bars and there are so many distractions that the bartenders can't hear you and they just hear rum and coke so that is what you get.

Absolute flavored vodkas do NOT have added sugar and they have no carbs.

Smirnoff flavored vodkas DO have added sugar. They run 2 grams of carbs per ounce (ie, 3 tablespoons). Per drink (1.5 oz), they're 3 grams of carbs.

Flavored rums:
Morgan's
Malibu: 5.1 gm per ounce; 7.6 gms of carbs per drink
Captain Morgan:
Captain Morgan (a spiced rum) comes in four flavors:
Original - 0.3g
Silver - 1.7g
Parrot Bay - 6.0g
Private Stock - 2.2g

Malibu Rum - 5.1g

Bacardi flavored rums (per ounce; a standard shot is 1.5 ounce
Bacardi Limon 2g
Bacardi Vanilla 2g
Bacardi Orange 3g
Bacardi Razz 3g
Bacardi Coco 2g

I know that Stoli's other flavors, Raspberry, Peach, Vanilla- do NOT have any carbs.

I have not seen any info on the Chocolate Raspberry anywhere!

I do a lemon vodka with club soda from time to time ... I never thought about carbs, as it's not a "sweet" drink. Just has that extra hit of acid and tang. Tasty. Though, I found the best way to drink it is with a no-calorie, sugar free gatorade type beverage. You'll enjoy the flavor and get hydrated with electrolytes - and after 1 or 2 I don't feel all wonky like I typically do when drinking on LC. This is the Season for celebrating, but it's best to be smart about it.

My favorite holiday alcoholic treat is very dry champagne, like a brut. It's super low in carbs, it's very festive and bubbly and a little goes a LONG way. Plus, you can find decent bottles for under $10, so it's a good little holiday splurge. Why not! Ring in the New Year and enjoy!
